Thanks lomatopo, that was very useful information.

Yes I will spend about 3 weeks in each location and also rural surroundings.
If possible I'd like to pick the best overall prepaid provider in order to be always reachable under the same phone number.
Do you reckon that would be TrueMove H?
In the past I have often used DTAC for phone service and GPRS/EDGE, how would DTAC compare to TrueMove H?
Thanks, Farrol

Hi guys,
which prepaid 3G provider would you recommend for BKK + North (Chiang Rai/Chiang Mai) + Rayong/Samet ?
I will be buying a Samsung Galaxy Nexus which supports 850/900/1900/2100 MHz WCDMA.
I would like reliable phone as well as somewhat reliable data service, would that be possible at all?
Cheers, Farrol

Great, thanks a million!

Thanks that's good news.
So just to make sure:
- Non-O visa is not necessary, my Non-B will do?
- Can I get a 1 year extension of stay which can be renewed every year?
- Can I get a multiple re-entry permit for travel at that time also?
And do I need to apply for the retirement extension of stay before the non-B expires?
Or could I also do it in the following 90 days I get when I enter Thailand just before the visa expires?
-
I am staying in Thailand right now with a non-B visa, valid for one year, expires in August. I have no extension of stay and no work permit.
Could I get an extension of stay based on retirement with this non-B visa?
I am 50 years old and could put 800k Baht in a Thai bank account now, so it would have been in the bank for 3 months by the time the non-B visa expires.
Thanks, Farrol

Thanks for the offer, sounds like a good idea.
I will play it by ear now, depending on the weather.
Should I go by bike I will send you a PM by Tuesday, I plan to go to Mae Sai on Wednesday.
Thanks everybody,
Farrol

Oh still raining in Chiang Rai?
I guess I will get the bus then.
Is there also a bus option where I would stay dry in case of rain?
-
Thanks guys!
How many km from Chiang Rai to Mae Sai, how long would it take on a small bike?
Is it a smooth road and traffic not too bad?
-
Hi all,
I will be in Chiang Rai next week for the first time and plan to explore the city and surrounds on a rented motorcycle.
While I am there I also need to go to Mae Sai to leave/re-enter Thailand to get a new visa stamp.
Would it be safe to ride my rental motorcycle to the border, and park it there while I cross the border and come back?
I don't plan to do any shopping, just cross and come back.
Cheers, Farrol

Thanks a lot guys!
So as I thought probably not easy to make sure to get an original.
So I guess I just stick to one of the bigger stores in Pantip or Fortune.
Would they have BananaIT there, too? Seacon Square is a bit far from my place.

Hi,
I want to buy a good quality MicroSDHC card, capacity 8GB or 16GB, probably Sandisk brand.
Given the fact that there are many counterfeits going around can anybody recommend a shop in Bangkok which will sell me the real deal?
Thanks!

For the last three days (Sat 26th to Mon 28th) I have had no luck loading web pages with neither AIS nor DTAC Simcard using EDGE, tried on several phones. This is in Bangkok, Chatujak area.
On Friday it was still working fine. My girlfriend had the same problem on her phone with AIS Simcard.
Strangely enough this seems to affect only HTTP (web pages). Other services like email (IMAP) or MSN chat are still working fine on both AIS and DTAC.
So my guess is that the mandatory government proxy servers are overloaded / not working.
Did anybody experience the same problem?

Thanks, ok I understand there is no need to return the Tax ID.
But does this mean that from now on I must file my income tax every year even though I have no income?
I would rather do without such complications. If that is the case I would like to cancel the Tax ID.
I will be staying in Thailand for at least a year on my non-B and might get a retirement visa afterwards.
-
I set up a Thai Ltd. here last July and in the process my agency (Sunbelt) not only applied for the tax ID for the Ltd, but also my personal tax ID.
But the whole thing fell through, the company never went fully operational and never had any employees.
Also I personally was never an employee as I had not got a work permit yet.
So how do I go about my tax ID card? Should I return it somewhere?
I never had any income during this time since July, neither in Thailand nor anywhere else.
Cheers, Farrol.

Thanks guys!
Might do it by myself then, sounds quite relaxed.
Which weekday would you recommend?
Would Saturday/Sunday be very busy + long queues?

Sorry:
From Bangkok to somewhere near and back, I guess Cambodia.

I need to do a visa-run next week, just quick out of and back into Thailand, I have a yearly Thai visa already.
As I am very tall, can somebody recommend a visa-run company which uses buses with comfy seats, lots of legroom and good suspension?
Thanks

I have about 10 months left on my Non-B visa and will apply for a temporary work permit to set up a BOI company.
This temporary work permit will be valid for about 3 months.
I need to do a visa run during this time because my first 90 days entry will be up soon.
So will the work permit still be valid when I come back to Thailand? (Of course still within the original validity).
Cheers
-
Well a visa run seems like more hassle to me than applying for an extension of stay, or isn't it?
However why would you want to get a three month extension, when you can just go to the border get a stamp and come back with another 90 days permission in your passport?
-
Hi,
I have got a multiple-entry Non-B with still 9 months on it.
Soon I will get a temporary work permit to be able to set up a BOI company here. I guess this WP will be valid for about 3 months. Then after we get the BOI certificate I can apply for an ordinary work permit.
What happens if I apply for an extension of stay on the temporary work permit? I guess I should get an extension of stay for those 3 months, right? So I wouldn't have to do a visa run.
Will then my original Non-B visa be rendered invalid by the extension of stay? Or can I still use it in case the extension of stay finishes before the enter-before date on the Non-B visa?
Cheers, Farrol

Thanks a lot, I will check it out.
BTW how much was the Yamaha Nouvo Elegance there?
-
It seems that for my office I only have the choice between TOT ADSL and CAT Hinet ADSL.
I already have TOT ADSL 8 Mbs at home in the same area and it is not great, many problems with Skype after 4pm.
So I am inclined to give CAT Hinet ADSL a try.
But they can only offer me 4Mbs down/1Mbs up due to the distance from their connection point.
The consumer package would cost me 790 Baht a month
Premium package 3490 Baht / month
Any experiences with those packages?
Would that be better than TOT?
My main usage is international web surfing, web downloads, VoIP, Skype, occasional VPN.
Cheers, Farrol

Hi guys,
planning to get myself a small bike, either Yamaha Nouvo Elegance or a Honda.
Can anybody recommend a motorcycle dealer not too far from Central Ladprao in Bangkok?
