This "news"
soundssmells fishy to me. -
Per Bassman: "TMD is a bunch of child geniuses from families of the enlightened at best".
I spent 2 1/2 years in Thailand from 2010 to 2013. Visited TMD once a week pretty much every week. Had and still have many friends there even though I'm back in the states. My best friend there is from Roi Et. Many of the mets there are not from Bangkok. Many are from the north and northeast, but they are from all over Thailand. Went to university and studied and worked hard and still work hard. (Other than the office workers they work 24 hour shifts.) And I'd say that 100% of the ones I knew were not child geniuses from families of the enlightened few. Not to say that a few may have come from better off families, but the lump sum statement is annoying.
Now to the "tropical storm" part of this story. It didn't do me any good trying to tell them that these are not tropical storms in the true sense of the meaning. Sometimes there are failures to communicate meanings between English and Thai. Yes, there will thunderstorms in the tropics, but that doesn't make them "tropical storms". Anyway enjoy your tropical storms in a few days.

I thought the Chinese were coming to the rescue per another article today. On one hand...on the other....

Right there. That's the culprit he said pointedly.

Official temperature readings are taken at 2 meters (6 1/2 feet) above ground level. So the 3C (37F) was at the 2 meter level.
And at an inch it was 0.5C (31F). As one can see there is a 2.5C (6F) difference in just that small a height change. That is on what is called macro-scale. Cold enough to snow but they had to settle for frost, which for Thailand is close enough. Oh, the wonders of weather.

Well I'll be a monkeys uncle. I didn't know that.

"The escalation of flood problems in a country deemed as natural disaster-free, such as Thailand". Natural disaster-free?
I would beg to differ. Flooding, like clockwork, occurs every year somewhere in Thailand. Earthquakes up north, while rare, do happen and as was seen this year can be significant in magnitude. The tsunami 10 years ago. Enough said.

Worked at a credit union for 3 years putting money into ATM's and also for Brinks after me military days. The amount of Baht taken sounds about right when converted from USD. All depends on the location and the amount of usage how much money is put into the ATM. As for the masked men breaking into the ATM, it must not have had an alarm on it. And the human alarm was a little slow on the trigger.

"Last, the Commerce Ministry sells the rice". Me thinks selling the rice first might work better.

I'm not in Thailand now, but the same garbage dump caught fire maybe 1 1/2 years ago. Same thing happened. Could see if from my condo on Suk 77. You just hope the wind is blowing the other way.

Certainly it doesn't cost that much for 1,000 boats with propellers.

"Tourists were probably intrigued, however, as Thailand rarely enjoys such cold weather". Enjoys may not be the word tourists would use for this.

"their loan agreements with the bank were rejected as they lack the credibility". Not trustworthy or not having good credit? Both me thinks.

For some reason the Finance Ministry didn't use "a shopping hub" for Thailand and this scheme. But I'm sure someone will let them know that Thailand is the hub of hubs (mecca just doesn't cut it) and this oversight will be corrected very soon.

How about "dropping" all the charges and stop the whole charade?
Thailand is making itself ridiculous in face of the whole world by keeping this charade going on.
The Red Bull heir will NEVER see a prison from the inside.
Nuff said
I don't think the whole world are watching........I doubt this gets a mention outside Thailand unless someone abroad is making an article on wayward S.E Asian heirs, unlikely.
He will certainly pay for it, but in the Thai way. Quite a few Thais are calling for a prison sentence, but truths if the victim was their family they would rather the money than he serve the prison time. And if it was their son who caused the accident they would rather pay for his "mistake" in cash than he do the time.
So a little moral outrage in Thai Rath, but business as usual even though the whole country is watching.
Maybe not the whole world but it has made MSN website news page here in the US. So it is getting some airplay outside of Thailand. Guess the people who read this will see just how backa$$wards the Thai justice system is.

I didn't see Barney the purple dinosaurs name on the list. He's all full of love and reconciliation. Fit right in. Maybe sing a song or two. Happy Thailand.

Right now he is probably enjoying those new Carl Jr's pop-tart ice cream sandwiches and having a good time somewhere in America.
My mistake in the supermarket check out
in General Topics
Posted
A few years back at the OnNut Tesco I was short-changed 700+ baht which I discovered just as she, the cashier, closed the till. I made mention of her mistake and this issue proceeded to take the next 15 minutes to resolve. The cash office manager had to come out and count/balance the till and then when she saw that I was indeed shorted she gave me the money. Needless to say the next day I was in there and the cashier was no more a cashier. She was cleaning shelves. A few weeks later she wasn't even working there anymore. I felt sorry for her. So just leave well enough alone, enjoy the water, as she will probably be out of cashiering job at that supermarket if you go back and point out the error.
