Dumbest post ever. Lots of people need computers to have serious grunt for AutoCAD, video rendering, acoustic modelling, file conversion, statistical analysis, serious gaming, etc etc....
Laptops can never compete with desktops for raw compute power, but from the sounds of it, I doubt you'd ever be able to tell the difference.

Sirindhorn is a bit of a windy annoying drive. Went to Chong Mhek a few weeks back to donate clothes and dried noodles to the Laos people after the floods.

Can a TM30 be done online?

I go to the Rajabhat one.

Single-entry. Do I need to report to Ubon immigration as soon as I get back with my Non-O visa?

Travelling from Heathrow over the years, I have used a lot of airlines. The last few times, EVA have been the cheapest and also the nicest flying experience, by far. I used EVA in 2008 for a return from LHR to BKK for 309GBP which was absolutely outrageous! After all the wine I drank there's no way they made money.
Once I paid about 350GBP for LHR to BKK return, but via Mumbai. It was an awful experience, I will never forget it. Jet airways if I remmeber correctly. Shocking.
Nowadays its more like 600 for a return. But not going back to LHR anyway, what a dump!

Hi guys,
Soon I'm going to Savannakhet to get my first Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage to my Thai wife. When I spoke to the immigration at Ubon last time they confused me by saying that after Savannakhet, I had to go immediately back to them in Ubon to register my address (which they already have, I have given it to them several times). Surely I can just do this online once I have my O visa? Do I need to do my first 90 day report as soon as I get back into the country, or can I wait?
Ubon is 100Km drive so it would be a massive benefit if I could just do it online.
It's a bit annoying how everyone you speak to in Thailand tells you something different.
Thanks.

I BBQ'ed a steak medium rare, they couldn't even bear to look at it in Isaan. They thought I was crazy to eat it "mai sup".
Yet some of the stuff they eat really is insane. Any food which stinks of cats piss from 50m can't be good for you. There's a reason the brain has reactions to certain smells, it's to keep you from going near it, and especially from eating it. Chemicals like skatole, cadaverine and putrescine come to mind.
These chemicals are intended to produce a reaction in the brain which prevents you from eating dead bodies, rotting flesh and shit.

Pla ra ปลาร้า, fermented fish is utterly disgusting and smells like concentrated cats urine. In Isaan everyone loves it.
I would call it rotten fish.

I think most people on here know not to walk into a karaoke bar/brothel at 2am, especially when it's at the taxi driver's recommendation!
Whether someone was eating their bogeys or not is another question..........
Still should have checked the prices!

Isn't it based on (a direct rip-off?) of the Honda XR200 engine?
It's not as if those air-cooled engines are high spec and pushed to their limits so that should also indicate reliability.
If it is, I would buy one. The Honda XR air cooled engine were totally unbreakable, they still go for decent money in the UK despite being prehistoric.

The only thing that's ever made me sick in Thailand, despite dozens of visits, is a fruit smoothie vendor on Soi Rambuttri near Khao San Road on my first trip. I had an apple smoothie, and didn't eat anything else, but a few hours later started vomiting which lasted over 24 hours. It was one of those vendors with a blender on the counter. It was a toilet-hugging experience that I don't want to happen again so avoid these vendors like the plague.
When I was vomiting into the toilet I could see things moving in the toilet bowl, and when I asked a Thai person about it they said don't worry it's only larvae! It was not pleasant.

Haha, they must have seen you coming!
Half drunk at 2 in the morning asking taxi drivers for an illegal boozing den with prostitutes! You forgot to ask the prices so I'm afraid it's really your fault, this happens in Tokyo, London, New York, Rome, Prague etc.......
It doesn't make Chiang Mai a dump because you got duped.

Don't even think about it. Sell the car and bring the money to Thailand.
I looked at importing a motorbike from the UK, it was an excellent bike, but shipping and fees/taxes were almost £20,000, totally ridiculous. Lots of red tape as well re: getting the bike on the road here.

I'm a native English speaker with a Masters, a decent computer and internet at 35Mbps, so teaching online seems perfect for me. Realistically I only need to earn about 15k a month, but don't know where to start.
Is it hard to get into? How did you get started with teaching online?

EVA are by far my favourite airline.

If anyone has lived in the UK and spent any time drinking Scotch whisky, then all of the whisky on offer in Thailand will taste like utter garbage. Even Johnny Walker, which seems to be ubiquitous, is pretty poor.

Every country has it's pros and cons and people have different needs and desires, so comparing countries is a waste of time.
Canada might be better for you, but it certainly wouldn't be for me. Canada has an amazing quality of life and culture, but so do many other countries.
For me cost of living is crucial seeing as I am not yet on a pension, so there's no better place than Thailand. But I can fully understand how some people might really not like it.
Surely if you're over 60, healthcare should be near the top of your agenda, so not sure why you'd pick Thailand. Singapore, maybe.

Any tips on how to not get sick in Thailand

If you worry about getting sick al;l the time, you're not going to enjoy yourself. Just go with the flow and eat what you want, you're very unlikely to get sick to be honest. Just remember, alcohol is a strong antibacterial so make sure you get lots of it down your throat.
