  1. Hi folks, ,did a search but could not find anything.

Could anyone advise if there is such a place that would sell hose equipment, hozelock, tap connectors, sprinklers etc.

The kind that you can quickly clip off and connect back on when needed ?

    Thanks for any advise.

  2. So they have the money to boost security of the tunnel.

Why not use this money to round up those poor unfortunate immigrants and ship them back?

According to OP they are not in hiding but camping outside Caleis.

Arrested 200 out of 2,100? More troubles to come.

The big problem is that unless they can prove where you are from, passport, documents etc. Then they have no know country to deport them to. This has been a constant issue. So once in an E.U. country, and with no record of where to deport them to, they have to 'settle them'.

We then have the issue of, moving them away from Calais to another region in France, this was done before, and they only jump in a train and come back, so a total waist of time.

Big problem and no one has the solution.

  3. QUOTE -

    You are out of touch.

    .

There are some 100 shariah courts operating in the UK today. Even if the "judgements" are not in accordance with UK civil law, there is a HUGE and IRRESISTABLE pressure exerted by the religion to ensure that the cases are decided under shariah law and not UK law.

    UNQUOTE -

If thats they case, then its illegal and they have absolutely zero authority to implement anything, i.e. imprisonment, fines etc. and has been on our news before, when sham courts are found the guilty parties are arrested.

Muslim World: how Muslims will take over the world via population growth and immigration

Lived in the gulf states for a few years, had some very interesting and intelligent chats to both Suni and Shia' Muslim's, one thing that surprised me was the view that Islam does not exist unless the whole world is Islamic, and its a duty for all to convert others in this pursuit. Quite a scary concept. I think as do most, live and let live but I dread the day that here in the U.K. sharia law is introduced as some communities here have been pushing for for many years now.

  5. Seeing as how we in the United Kingdom / Eire had decades of Northern Ireland unrest, 'The troubles' as they were called, it was not until the women united together and evnetually put pressure on the men, of all sides that the fight turned into a more political state than bombs, bullets and black marketeering.

Perhaps if the Ladies of the Southern Part of Thailand were to form a united front and all sides were to force their men, teens and boys to stop this right now and seek alternative dialog via politcal peaceful means, that this fight will then take a peacful route.

Again, perhaps they should go to Northern Ireland on a fact finding mission and talk to some of the mothers, wifes, daughters that when through 'The troubles', and see if they can gain any ideas from their visit.

    Peace

  6. When I lived in Paris McDo's had no choice but to do this -

Students would leave school or on their lunch break take up nearly the whole place with only a couple of fries and a shake, and stay for hours. Even having a rota system, yup... as one student left the next sat down and took their place as I was in fact waiting with a tray of food.

Where I worked we used to pop out to Macs to get a snack, and seeing this with my own eyes, were we so happy when eventually the manager put a sign up, limiting seating and time inside his restuarant. I think McDonnalds on Ave. Charles De Gaulle must have had huge bills and to see all their money go down the pan for this little 'community club' had to end.

So my lovely Thais, its not only in Thailand this happens. thumbsup.gif

  7. I think highly unlikely that any non-government organisation has the legal right to demand, never mind retain, a foreign passport.

Its all well and good to have rights, but when you are there, feeling like you have to beg or if you piss someone off you might become one of the 'unknown' its a little different. Also so what for rights, if you are detained as I was, or have your passport taken off you, superman aint gonna burst in to save the day...

  8. I actually wasnt insulting you, but seeing you were lost, I was wondering whether they mistakenly thought you didnt know who you were (Amnesia) . What a strange story.. how frightening.

Hi Edwin, no insult taken at all my friend, and no clue why. Cops were friendly enough, but would not let me leave as I could not show my passport. I explained I can remember the way to the hotel, next to the Chang Mai Institute of Technology, remember it so clear, as I work in IT Telecomms and egineering, but they just told me to wait. Next thing, in a car taken to this awful hospital.

If fact I feel so stupid, if I had just walked around the walled city, for a while I would have got my bearings and found the hotel, instead I saw the police station sign, in English, and thought I would ask them and that was the end of that...

One to right off to travelers experience, but its hard that once in that situation, there is not a 'I am entitled one free call' or 'you have to contact the consulate, tourist translater etc etc' I even had a const list of emergency numbers in my wallet and was told, no.... need passport first, or you pay for the nights stay.

I think thats the big issue in Thailand, great country, lovely people, if you are street wize then be careful etc. But if, only if or perhaps when you happend to be in a sitaution like this, and there is absolutely nothing that can be done unless some comes to get you.

  9. I have been there . . . . Detained by Hospital

Went to Chang my for the Kings flower festival when I was quite new toThailand with my Finacee, to celebrate one year of being engaged. and we got separated, (now guys, we have been together 10 years happy now, before the usual comments) and so as per the usual Brit way, I went to the Police station.

After being detained for 2 days at the police station, just being told 'Dont sapeek Engleesh', not having my passport on me and other forms of ID not accepted, they took me to the local 'hospital'... dont ask me why. Now as my wife booked the occasion, I did not know the name of the hotel, but did know where it was, stated I will show them exactly where it is, (Been to Chang Mai the previous year) but was told I am not allowed out of the hospital as I dont have a passport, nor any funds to pay for my stay.

I had my Driving licence, usual ATM and visa cards, Works ID card, etc etc. but no good at all - Would not even trust me to go under escort to the hotel, or extract money from the ATM.

This went on for 12 days, behond frantic and I knew I had now missed my flight back to the U.K.- Due back in the office, work etc. And still every time I asked the so called Doctor, just YO CANNIT LEEV UTIL DA BILL PAID... I even game my fiancee mobile number, our home number but nothing.

Despite my Family back in the U.K. contacting the the local consulate, my work had been contacted as well, and they asked the local Police in the U.K. for advise what to do, my Finacee calling everywhere she could. Just by luck after 2-3 visits back to Chang Mai, the wife heard from a Cab driver that some 'FARANGS' are taken to this hospital, and there is where she found me.

My Finacee paid the 'money owing' to a very pissed off so called Doctor, who pretended not to speak English. Later I found out that the first thing all doctors must pass to qualify as a Doctor is an English exam.

Anyhow, back to this poor young lady something must be done. Even if there is a panic number setup, a kind of stranded helpline. Its all well and good talking about insurace, but if you are stuck how can they have verification of your certificates, authority if left in the hotel etc. that is a litteral catch 22.

The worse this about cases like this, (mine was no where near as bad as this young lady) is that after the event no one at all, in any position of authority gives a hoot. Consul, Embassy, Thai Tourist police, Foreign affairs. Its just a touch luck attitude should not travel to Thailand attitude.

I hope it never happens to any of you. And best of luck to the Scottish Girl.

Don't worry. something like the above will never happen to me. Jeeze. Detained for 12 days in a hospital just because you lost your girlfriend in a crowded street?

    Are you for real?

Yup and I am very well traveled, worked in the Airline industry for years, been from Baghdad to Belize, from Dallas to Dubai even up in the mountains of Jordan. And yes, have had a few troubls but this is the only place in all my years being detained like that matey.

On what basis were you detained may I ask? Had they sectioned you as as a Psychiatric patient! A very strange happening indeed!

They never said to me, or to my now wife - After all my friend, my fluency in Thai and written Thai, as well as beauroctracic Thai, and I guess as the Police (Very polite I must add) were involved, legal Thai, is slighly lacking Hombre.

  12. My wifes sister last week stated that the water came upto the car near the car port, which is about .5 meter lower than the door to our

bungalow. This morning she has phoned and heard it will be the same but maybe worse if the heavy rains continue so the neighbours

have got some sand bags, and this is up from Pataya Soi Siam Country Club, golf club.

As I understand it the heaviest rain in the next few days is destined for the Eastern Seaboard - anyone confirm that?

It could mean chaos for Pattaya and the environs

  13. Okay thanks for that, just hope its a big flap over nothing.

    Have a good one

Does anyone have any news about flooding around Nong Pru, East of Pattaya. My wifes sister called this morning from our Bungalow in Greenville, Soi Country Club as they call it, saying the waters are very high and likely to flood.

    Thanks,.

No flooding anywhere in or around Pattaya as yet.

  14. That was my neighbours feeling hence they are filling the sand bags and trying to put some defeince in action, also the usual

    electrical goods in high ground.

    Just hope everyone staye safe.

With the enormous amount of water heading south in the next week and the chance of more heavy downpours, it is obvious that Bangkok is being saved from serious flooding at the expense of the provinces. However,it would be interesting to see people being ferried down Sathorn Road in longboats.Drown the provinces, save the capital.

  15. Successful business operations expect the senior executives to be prepared and to know the subject at hand. Anyone that has attended "management" meetings knows how tedious they can be when a couple of the entrenched execs just talk in circles or defer to an underling. The PM is making the ministers work and that's a good thing.

The former PM Abhisit never had a job outside of government so he never had real world experience. Government meetings can drag on for hours where nothing gets done. In the successful segments of the private sector, time is treated as a valuable resource and is not wasted on "meetings". This PM doesn't have time to waste on activities that accomplish nothing. This is a good change to see.

You are exactly correct. When I worked as operations manager for an major Airline, it was 1 hour brief, execs take their issues, ie power, maint, catering, flight delays, engineering etc. and are expected to attend the meeting with the correct knowledge or assistant. When I later worked for a semi goverment organisation there was meetings to discuss the review of the meertings being held to disucuss the bullet points of the agenda blah blah blah.... by the time 2 hours were reached they were more interested in the lunch than any productivity what-so-ever.

  16. I am so surprised that being the first female Prime Minister of Thailand is not the main focus as it really is a world first and an event that should be celebrated. But as usual, its straight to the throat of the new prime minister. Good luck to her, and Thailand, perhaps it takes the prowess of a female to sort out Thialands mess.
