  1. I see. Where would you be using this? Most places that travellers visit would normally have wifi available rather than ethernet, I would have thought.

The typical scenario these routers are used in is a hotel or similar venue which provides only an ethernet cable (no wifi) so you plug them in and create a local wifi "bubble" in the room to use a netbook/mobile without having to carry an extender cable (a smartphone won't connect to an ethernet cable anyway).

Back to my OP, any suggestions for a reputable & bargain-ish retailer for a smartphone & such routers in BKK/Pattaya?.

    Thanks.

  2. Hi All,

Planning to visit the LOS sometime in the next few months and have my sight on the Nokia N900. I will also be looking for a travel wifi router (to convert an ethernet cable connection to wifi).

Would appreciate advice on a reliable yet bargain-ish retailers in BKK and Pattaya. Is there any point in checking MBK or Tukcom, price-wise and scam-wise (fakes sold as originals, if that happens at all)?.

Also, anyone knows the price of the N900 in LOS?.

    Cheers,

    Mike.

  3. I'lll be arriving at BKK in an early morning flight and plan to have a medical check-up for a few hours and then travel onwards.

Would appreciate recommendations on a clean, centrally located (around Sukhumvit/Siam etc.) and inexpensive hotel to shower and rest for a couple of hours before attending the check-ups. To clarify, I'm thinking of checking-in in the morning and checking-out in late afternoon.

    Cheers,

    Mike.

  4. jfchandler: the staff at a GSB branch told me that starting October 1 GSB ATMs will start charging the 150b fee (I asked about the fees in-person while at the branch). I haven't seen that posted/advertised as well.

I've now used the GSB ATM at Tukcom, Pattaya and was charged 150b. When I've used the same ATM in late Sep. (about two weeks ago) I was not charged the 150b fee.

  5. jfchandler: see my post above. The GSB ATMs are being `upraded' to charge the 150b fee. ATMs which have not yet been `upgraded' will not process withdrawls with international cards (they'll eject the card after the screen showing `Processing Transaction' or something like that).

  6. From October 1, 2009 GSB ATMs are no longer fee-free and also charge 150 baht. The ATM just outside the GSB branch at Central Festival (4th floor) does that. The other GSB ATMs (2nd road, Tukcom, 3rd road) seem to be in the process of being `upgraded' to charge the 150b fee and until this is complete they do not process withdrawals with an international ATM card.
