Hi
Was at Koh Lipe last September, it was very wet, rained every day for 6 days, some rubbish was washed ashore, as we could not go on the beach, it wasn't an issue, it was very quiet & not many places open.

If you go to the main pier "Tarua Phe" in Ban Phe, white shark speedboats
Most of their boats have lifejackets on board...

Take a look at a really nice resort called samed villa in Ao Phai, reasonably priced with breakfast included & a choice of two good beaches Ao Phai & Tubtim
nightlife close by & saikaew beach a 20 minute stroll away for the islands main street. for more info on the island take a look at kohsamed.net - great site & very accurate up-to-date info....

Hi.
I live on Koh Samet, Loy Krathong is still a magical time, The hotels / Resorts have courses for guests on making the floating ornaments,
The main street shops also have them on sale & you can see lots of locals making them, Late on in the evening they are floated into the sea.
the atmosphere is great..
Yes, most weekends are busy on Samet, it is after all high season.. A really good accurate website for info on the island look at kohsamed.net
its run & updated by a local travel agent on the main street..

Any one knows where these resorts are on Koh Somet? I dont recognize their names
Hi
These resorts are in the north of Koh Samet - located in Ao Klang, next to the fishfarm just past Nadan Harbour.. the first two are owned by Samed Resorts,
one is Mook Samed - only for vip guests of the owners of Samed Resorts, the other one is the fish restaurant Ban Ploy Samed - opposite & part of Baan Ploy Sea Resort.
The 3rd one is unseen samed resort - this is owned by the owner of Saikaew Villa in Saikaew Beach, he used to live here.

Fishing on Koh Samed is a popular pastime, you often see the local residents sitting on the rocky prominences patiently waiting for a bite
no licence or permission is needed, enjoy your catch & have a local beach restaurant cook it for you
bring your own fishing rod with you, as you cannot rent or buy them on koh samed -
Hi
A nice resort you should take a look at is Saikaew Beach Resort - located on Saikaew Beach. they have some nice beachfront poolside villas
it's also close to samet village for evening walks & beach restaurants / bars. Koh Samet won't be busy at the end of june "low Season" - luckily the gulf of Thailand escapes all the high seas & monsoon rains, seas are good to swim in & you can rent hobbi cat at Saikaew beach resort..
a great website for up-to date accurate info on the island is http://kohsamed.net.

Hi
There are 16 resorts on Koh Samet with swimming pool, non are located out at sea, as you mentioned your not looking for basic 3 stars this leaves you little choice, the 4 stars are a little isolated away from amenities in the quiet north of Ao Noi Na or the quiet west coast of Ao Prao.
however there is a slightly expensive busy 4 star on Saikaew beach called Saikaew beach resort, this has a choice of 3 swimming pools with sea front villas
a great website for accurate, up to date info on Koh Samed and lists all resorts with swimming pools is http://kohsamed.net - take a look.

Hi
Yes, Koh Samed over long weekend holidays gets quite busy with thai visitors escaping the rains of the city,
Your right hotel / guesthouse prices are slightly inflated over holiday weekends.
Check out this good site for accurate info: http://kohsamed.net
you'll still have a good time on the island & the weather has been great.
