  1. Nope. They are denouncing the botched departure just like everyone else.
  2. "No one saying a word"? Are you kidding? Watch some TV and YouTube, he's getting it from Republicans. Democrats and most TV and YouTube channels plus the print media, regardless of their political bent.
  3. It's worse than Saigon. People desperately clinging to airbourne planes and then inevitably falling to their death? I think only one Vietnamese died this way after clinging to the last helicopter's skid. Didn't the US also manage to evacuate many Vietnamese that worked for them? The Afghans that worked for the US armed forces have been betrayed. Leaving Afghanistan (a good thing - botched) but breaking a promise, on top of what they did in Syria will make it hard to ever trust the USA's word ever again.
  4. I've been here for several decades. In that time, I've had a few girlfriends before the present one, which I've been with for 23 years. At the start of each of these relationships, I told these women that if staying with them made me more miserable than living alone, I would leave them. I was being honest and they were warned. If it came to pass, I left and reminded them of my words to them.
  5. Seems like it's you getting your panties in a bunch. Your post is typical millennial, Generation Z. Too whiny.
  6. He's not my leader. I'm not American, so you see I have no dog in this fight. I've always hated liars. Anyway, this is not the thread to talk US politics.
  7. Are you kidding? Thais are very scared of catching Covid. If they thought they have it, home would be the last place they would be. They'd be off to the hospital as their life could depend on it and they know that.
  8. The reason why everything has been made so complicated, is that the government's starting position is 'every foreigner wants to come to Thailand for their holiday'. That's why they think they can put up as many hoops as they want and everyone will jump through them. The actual idea that some of these hoops are actually convincing potential tourists to go elsewhere for their holidays, has never even entered their tiny little minds.
  9. Well, well, well. It's TAT's Kamala representative. You're nothing if not predictable. I just knew this would make you stick your head out.
  10. He must be related to De Santis and Abbott..........
  11. 99% of the local Thai people don't smell anything. I have seen no appreciable difference for ordinary Thais since the Sandbox opened.
  12. I've looked at WebMD and can't find the study you are relating. Could you provide a link to the page please?
  13. The people at Orchid, during the 30 minute recovery, insisted that it was no good for international travel. You don't know for certain that it will be accepted, so why take the risk? We were told that an internationally recognized vaccine passport would be given to us at Suvarnabhumi in exchange for the Chalong hospital issued paper.
  14. Have never met a Thai anti-vaxer. This is what makes me so mad. USA has plenty of vaccines, but 30% of the population have no intention of taking any, thereby endangering the whole effort to eradicate the virus. Meanwhile, you have other countries, including Thailand where the general population want to be vaccinated, but there's no vaccine available. I have a feeling that the USA is going to be the very last country to overcome this virus. In the words of the eminently quotable Winston Churchill:- "The USA always does the right thing............after trying everything else first".
  15. Yes, it is beautiful to be at sea and look at Kamala. But, being on the beach and looking the other way is a bit ugly. All those postage stamp villas crammed together on the southern headland is an eye-sore and the view of the northern headland isn't much better. Kamala used to be lovely, but after all the ugly development near the beach, or in view of the beach, plus the ugly and dangerous racetrack that cuts through the centre of town, it's seen much better days. Then again, what beach hasn't. I just think Kamala has been hit harder by excess development than other beaches. Just my opinion. If you like it and can tolerate the <deleted> view from the beach, then good for you.
  16. Not for me. Went to their office a couple of days before my annual prescription ran out and told them I wasn't going to renew. They told me what equipment to bring back, and that was it. Done. I'm sure individual offices do things differently from each other.
  17. There is no such thing as "women's work", only work which can be done by anyone, which is the attitude the missus and I have. Hold everything! I'm wrong. There is definitely one task that I consider women's work. That is ironing. Yes, definitely ironing.
  18. The sandbox idea has gone better than I thought, but I still think it's a failure. There were two parts. Bring in foreign tourists and open up businesses to cater for them. Far fewer tourists actually came and very, very few businesses that opened specifically due to the sandbox. Seems to me the only business that are really benefiting is some hotels. Other business in the retail sector may need ten customers per day to break even, but there are still too few tourists to ensure that happens. Businesses will not open until they see with their own eyes that there are enough tourists walking around that opening up will not be a gamble. It costs money to close down and even more to open up. Add to that the distrust Thais feel about this government and the stupid statements they hear from officials, it'll be quite a while before things change. You can kiss the 2021-2022 high season goodbye.
  19. So......your issue isn't with the actual sandbox idea, it's with government officials spouting nonsensical numbers.
