  1. The Thai immigration have deemed that the CofR are free. That's the rule they made. When they charge for something that is supposed to be free, that is corruption. If their policy and rules says it's 300Bt, I would gladly pay it. If it's supposed to be free and immigration are illegally making money from it and it isn't corruption in your eyes, what do you call it?
  2. Locked up? Don't think so. Yes, I've had at least three free CofRs. Once when there was a crack down on CORRUPTION there, and two where I stuck to my guns. It must feel awful to be so timid. Squeak. Squeak!
  3. Okay, got my CofR today. You do not need a TM30. I gave the following photocopies:- Info page of passport. Current visa/extension. TM6 departure card. Current registered address (paper stapled in at back of passport). The PIV wanted 300Bt. I said that I knew it was free and did he know that he was aiding in corruption? He shrugged his shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. Then he whispered that he could get it for free, but they would make me wait for the CofR. I hang my head in shame. I confess I paid the 300Bt because I wanted to go to the bank to complete the paperwork for the US$ account. Smart move by immigration officials getting the money collected by the PIV. If there is a crack-down on this, the immigration officers can pin all the blame on "corrupt" PIV. Wonder if the PIV realise this.
  4. Had a three hour black out a couple of weeks ago. The PEA trucks were at the entrance to our Soi.
  5. Ever heard that song "If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all"? Could have been written for me. Went to immigration this morning. No electricity for the whole day. They can't actually print the CofR. PIV said come back Monday. No way. Monday will be pandemonium.
  6. A few things have been happening this week. Will do everything soonish.
  7. Substitute the word "coke" for something else and that is true also which is why many Thai women will confess to loathing them.
  8. Motorbike taxis aren't allowed in the airport. He will have to get out of the airport first. A long walk with bags. Just take an airport taxi all the way (it's safer, too).
  9. The last time I got a CofR, if I recollect correctly, was 200Bt, though it might have been 300Bt. It certainly wasn't higher than that. Several regular posters on the Phuket sub-forum got the letter free after kicking up a fuss. They always give in as they are scared that you will complain higher up about corruption. Don't know if he's still there, but a while back, the head of Phuket immigration addressed this issue and said that the CofR was free and that he would not tolerate corruption. Either that was just for the media, or he has moved on because they are back to there old tricks.
  10. Okay. Firstly, it was Bangkok Bank that insists that they need the CofR. They also needed one for each account I opened with them (one for daily expenses and one for the 800k) I went in yesterday with just my passport to open the US dollar account. Meanwhile, they are preparing all the paperwork that will be forwarded to their head office in Bangkok. Next Monday, I'll stop by the bank to make sure everything is OK, then to immigration for the letter. Then back to the bank to hand it over. They estimate that it will take two days to open. They will give me a call when it's ready so that I can pick up the book. Minimum amount for first deposit is $1000, though, this can be paid in Baht. After that, deposits must be in US dollars. Minimum balance is only $250. The reason I'm doing this is that I received an email from Barclays Bank UK that from the 1st June, they will be charging me 40 pounds sterling every month on each account because I haven't got 100,000 pounds (or equivalent) in the account. I have two accounts with them; sterling and US dollar. I don't need the sterling account anymore as it was only opened when I frequently worked in Africa as I was paid in sterling. The majority of my work was paid in dollars. If I don't do a thing, they'll be taking 80 pounds sterling per month. I have already checked other British banks and they all charge (like wounded bulls) exorbitant amounts for the privilege of being a customer. I'm not going to go along with this blatant rip-off. Skatewash has already provided the link to the Phuket immigration web-site which lists the paperwork needed. The letter is not 300Bt, it's free. I usually pay the 200Bt requested, but, this time I'm not going to accept one rip-off to remedy another rip-off. I speak some Thai, so I'll tell them I know it's free. If you make a song and dance about it, they always give in and as I've already just done my extension, I don't think that in a years time they will remember me so that they can be "awkward". I'll update this thread as necessary.
  11. Sorry, what's your point? Maybe read my first post. It has nothing to do with bank-books and everything to do with getting a letter from immigration that the bank needs to open another account. Once the bank account is created, then I'm sure I'll get a bank book.
  12. Thanks Pag. I got back from Bangkok Bank in Phang-Nga road. They only really need my passport and the proof of address letter. I'm opening up a US dollar denominated account. Foreign currency accounts are held at the head office in Bangkok, but you can open one here and then they sent the paperwork.
  13. Brilliant! Thanks bunches. Funny, I was on that site, but didn't go to "others".
  14. Tried to do a Search on this, but for some reason the function has turned into rubbish. I will be opening a new bank account which is the reason why I need the letter from immigration. Anyone here that can post all the paperwork needed? Thanks in advance.
  15. Looks to me that the hotel is exactly the same building style as a condo. What physical difference do you see?
  16. No, young people think they're bullet-proof. Age brings more caution.
  17. That maybe true, but how do you know that there was another person in the room at the time he fell? Much more likely that if someone else had been in the room drinking with him, it was at another time. Your post illustrates very well the danger of armchair detectives who always pick the most fantastical theories.
  18. You can't give an answer without insults? My standards may be below yours, but I was actually taught manners. Obviously, you weren't.
  19. Deep-fat fryer? That's so twentieth century. We have air-fryers now. Just as good, but without the fire hazard......
  20. You could batter and deep-fry a monkey and the Scots would eat it.
  21. The fish'n'chip shop opposite the Stoned Crab imports frozen Atlantic Cod fillets. They make their own chips, not the ones out of the bag. All this was reflected in the price which I thought far too much for what just humble fish'n'chips. I also stay home and cook. So easy, especially with YouTube. That way, I know what goes in, the freshness of the ingredients and the state of the kitchen.
  22. Less offensive than Hitler Fried Chicken which opened in Bangkok and then closed due to foreigner's complaints.
