please dont get frustrated as i value your advise but at the same time i can see how annoying it is to have many posts off guys being silly and ending up in the same situation and posting for help. so i do know this and understand your points of view. so thanks for helping me and the advice i have been given is great thank you.....

just an update as i have now returned to the uk!

*i was tested all clear in regards to aids 3 months ago on arrival to bangkok and it waas only this person i have slept with.

*my hep A and B vaccine in 07 i definately had the 1 st jabs may be the 2nd jabs but not the 3rd so effectiveness is debatable at this time.

in response to the potential exposure to stis i have done the following!!!!

*started a course of antibiotics for syphilis clamidia and gonerea

*had a 1st jab of the hep a and b vaccine jabs 48 hours after exposure whilst still in bnagkok, i will get the 2nd and 3rd done with my gp in the uk (as i have heared this may be effective in combatting the virus even after 48hrs to exposure fingers crossed)

*and i have booked my self in for a 6 week after exposure full sti check with my local GUM clinic in the UK (for aids hep a hep b hep c and all the others)

wish me liuck and thanks for helping i will be sure to let you all know when i do!!!!!!

if i can not stand the wait of 6 weeks i may seek out a NAT test in the uk for 2 or 3 weeks

ok im so worried im going into the red cross on monday that wil be 5 days after the potential exposure. for a aids test the 2 diff kinds and for the hep vaccines?

will the hep vaccines work and will the aids test show up antie bodies i beleived i read apost that said the dr said 5 days is good for the rna aids test?

due to having a medical procedure here in bangkok i was required to have aids and hep test and i was all clear around 2 months ago. so im afraid ur statement is incorrect. i also think i had hep vaccine before me gambian holiday 3 years ago. it was 2 or 3 injections over a few weeks? i wonder if its still protecting me? hope so. im not blaming any one here... im just worried as i mentioned before? im leaving home for the uk in 10 days so i will have to get test there?

Even if the woman is HIV positive, the odds are in your favor if it was a single exposure. (Which is not to in any way diminsh the importance of always using protection, of course). Since the odds are against her being infected, the total risk is one unlikely event times another = very small. Not zero, but small.

See the other thread about this currently running in this forum. The HIV testing procedure used by the Thai Red Cross in Bkk includes, at no additional cost, a direct test for the virus (if the antibody screen was negative) which is sensitive after as little as 2 weeks. So no need to wait 6 weeks. I suggest you go there as soon as you hit the 2 week mark (see directions in the pinned thread on HIV). They can also screen for other STDs.

The "blocker" referred to is "post exposure prophylaxis" (PEP) and it would not be indicated in a case like yours where the risk is small. The odds of a serious adverse effect from the drugs would be greater than the odds of having been infected. PEP is mainly used for health workers who get stuck by needles used on people known to have HIV and that sort of thing.

Have you been vaccinated against Hepatitis B? Because if not, that is also a concern. It is more easily contacted than HIV and has the same risk factors.

i would not be able to find this girl again i live in bangkok and she does not also i have not contact details for her!?

so my only option is to wait until the test or try thr blocker you speak off?

My understanding is that infection rates are as high as 1 in 10, but that is heavily skewed by the market for Thai men who refuse to wear condoms... I also understand it is actually quite hard for a man to catch HIV from a woman, but the opposite is true for the woman...

My advice would be to try and ask the girl to get tested, go with her and pay, so the doctor will tell you face to face the results (HIV isn't the only thing you need to worry about)... you can get a blocker within the first 24 hours after exposure or something if you are really concerned, but I would be trying to get the girl tested before I took that step...

It is no use getting yourself tested, because nothing will show up for 3 months, by which time it is too late to do anything...

well this is the story..............

my last 10 days in the country and me an my friend have been having a good time drinking and clubbing. we met up with 2 ladies in a bar on khaosan road we had them round for late night drinks at our appartment and well nature took its course so to speak..... i always wear protection!

how ever after wards i noticed the condom was not wear it should be and i found it in the bed to my horror!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im worried sick to the point of distraction! this lady was around 30 y/o and thai, im not implying by any means that thai women are all infected with hiv...... but im worried this one was especially as she may have a habbit of seeking the company of men (travelers) in bars etc etc or as i know nothing of her history who is to say she wasnt a possible sex worker in her past????

i guess im just looking for any advcie and words of wisdom that may help me needless to say im getting tested in 6 weeks............

honestly how bad is HIV infection in the general female population of bangkok? what are the odds that she is hiv infected 1 in a 100 more less

the amout of floats going up and down the lake is really funny and i saw like 5 of them so that means alot of snapped lines and fish with hooks in there mouths dud to dodgey lines!!!! so yer i suppose its just as bad now as it was when you went....

and yes after the first time going with a guide you could easily do it yourself....... how ever after 20 odd large cat fish i have to admit i was glad to have some one bait up and cast for me! but i have to agree fishing is all about doing it yourself and if a guide does it all it just isnt sport........

but for fishermen not used to big fish angling and catfish fisfhing a guide is so valueable if your after a good day!!!!!!!!!!!

nothing against tour companies or guides, i just find them more expensive as i have recieved a few quotes an after looking into it my self the tour companies charge alot more than if you go it it alone!!!!!!!

what is the best way to catch big mekong at bungsamran and not keep hooking into the 30kg range an target the mosters any help inregards to rigs or bait etc and line would be very helpfull,

oh and the day cost me 5000

for 2bags of bait,2rods tackle,2 guides and a bungalow..... i got another guide for free...

my only comlaints weak gear for the big fish and hooking into to many 20-30kg range

i have had the best and worst days fishing of my life at bung samran in bangkok......

the pond was very empty and i fished from 9 til 9 and caught 29 mekong catsfish and out of the 29, 20 of them where over 20kg and out of the 20, 10 where over 30kg and one was 70kg plus and near 2meteres long!!!!!

so this is the story........... go there for 7am checked the lake out hired a guide a bungalow and 2 rods and 2 bags of bait and used extra large bait balls! through out the day i had a take every 20mins and was kept evry busy and ended up exhausted by the end of the day......

after using up all my bait on the first 28 large mekongs ranging from 20-35kg i didnt think things could get much better.... how ever i was in for a shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 after borrowing some bait of a guy in the next bungalow for one last cast......... i had a huge take and run!!!!!

the fight lasted 1hr and 20 mins and the giant catfish took me and my guides on a huge chase... i had 3 guides in the water swimming under the bungalows as it went under the platforms and we started in bungaloe 21 and ended up in bungalow 26 in the water, we managed to get the animal to the side of the platform where we could all see it..................

im 6ft,6 and this fish was as long as me and wider(deeper) my 3 guides all said it was the biggest they had seen there angler who they where guiding catch for a long time.... they put it at 70kg plus now time for the heart brake i managed to catch and bring in this fish on the lighter of the 2 rods with blue line that looked like 10lb or 15lb line i used similar in rivers back home this was def not big catfish material.............. in the after math and me recovering from my back spasms and torture of the 1hr,20min battle, it was photo time in the haste to get my camera and shirt off to get in the lake with the fish.......

it kikd on and snapped the line and was gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and the only witness,s and proof is the 3 guides and the people next to me at the pod that day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no need to say i have been unable to sleep since it truely was the biggest catfish i had ever seen a photo of and the biggest fish i had ever reeled in...... and not to get a photo was heartbraking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i cant tell you all how depressed i have been!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i give you me word this isnt another "one that got away tale" feel free to ask the guide called "V" pronouned "we" him and his friends put it at 70kg plus and 6ft long 2 meters

Its better to have fished and lost than to have never fished at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im so sad we didnt get a pic...... although i got many pic of the 30kg fish which i thought was amasing but not now as they just feel like tiddlers or minnows its so sad

truely heartbroken.....

24hrs at shadowlake and 24hrs at bungsamran before i leave to see if i can get into anything near that size again......... but i doubt it for bungsamran this thing was big and thats saying sumn!!!!! if only they had better gear

ive posted this same thread a few diff places on here as i didnt know it was here sorry?

basically i have a friend coming over to thailand for the nov/dec sail fish fishing.........(dont worry i want all bill fish that i catch to be set free)

ive heard alot of negative things about the state of deep sea, game fishing in thailand???

so im keen to make sure i go to the best locations to maximise our chances of a good catch, how ever im not familiar with thailands sea fishing locations so any advise or help in regards to the best location would be ideal, im not keen on going to where all the farangs go or places flooded with tourists, however that said i wil fish where the fish are?

and when i say thailand i mean any where here i willing to travel any where?

i will look forward to your suggestions and replys in regards to locations and also recommended people to charter from?

hello after doing alot of research on the fishing in thailand unfortunately all i seem to find is that nothing big or decent seems to get caught any more? i have a friend coming over in november and we desperate to get out to sea and do some game fishing? how ever im unfamiliar with destinations in thailand im in bangkok at the moment but will travel anywhere in thaialnd to get the correct fishing. so the questione is?

where is the best location in the whole of thailand to do some big game fishing where big fish can still be caught?

im planning on splashing out for 24hours at sea to do some day and night fishing and charteing a boat etc and dont want to spend the 18000 to 24000 im being quoted on a tiddlers and small 3kg fish

hello every one,

ive been in bangkok for 30days now ive extended my visa so im in the country untill decem and im desperate to come to pattaya and get out to sea for some deep sea sport fishing!

im going to be in pattaya around the15th of nov with a friend and i want to get hooked in to some decent fish

how ever as i have no experinace with the fishing companys in the area i want to choose the best one as a good day can be made or lost depending on the quality of the fishing tour guide/charter comany etc

so if any one here has any experiance or good reviews or can recomend a good company that would be good!!!!!
