  1. The Royal Mekong has a big swimming pool that is well maintained.  It is out of town quite a ways.  You will need transportation into town..tuk tuk, or rented motorcycle.....or walk for an hour or so.

The Grand has a smaller swimming pool (a bit small for doing laps) that is well maintained.  It is in town so you could easily walk around town.

I've never stayed in either since I prefer the relaxed riverside atmosphere of the Mut Mee Guest House which is also conveniently located in town....but it doesn't have a pool....but you can use the hotels's pools for a small fee if you want to swim which is easily financed with the savings you make because the Mut Mee is much cheaper.

The only swimming you'll want to do up here at the moment would be in a 5mm wetsuit - it's freaking baltic here.

IMO Grand Hotel - more convenient for the town, livelier and has the restaurant on the roof. The RM is rarely busy and the rooms I've been in are quite 'musty'.

  2. I have a Golden retriever and this morning she has suddenly developed a large 'growth' in her ear flap. It's about 4cm long, shaped like a rugby ball. Soft to the touch. She doesn't seem in distress.

She has a 9 month puppy, although he dwarfs her, and they play quite hard together, biting each other's ears, neck, tails, etc.

    Any ideas anyone?

  3. just checked ..it will be 5th November

so same as the english guy night!!

I think the hotel you refer to is for 2005!  the festival is three days, and those dates are for this year

so the 5-8th would prob be the best time in 2006

Their advert (The Pailyn Hotel, Sukothai) definitely states 2006. Could be a typo - I'll check with them later today. www.thailine.com/siamsun/sukothai.htm

    Thanks

  4. Does anyone know the date for next year's (2006) Loy Krathong festival in Bangkok? Apparently the fullmoon is on the 5th but the only info I can find on google (so far)has a hotel in Sukothai celebrating it between the 12th and 16th November.

My old man is booking his hols for next year and needs to know asap.

    Thanks.

  5. 3 points from west ham, on sat, then a point from man utd, we will be well on our way by then... not to forget the scum the week after, it will be a hard game but derbys are always close afairs!

    red army!

I'd like a couple of swigs from the half-full glass you're drinking from!! :o

    FACT: Newcastle are pants!

Bet you mackems would prefer to be in our pants, though. Stead or Owen? That's a toughie.

  6. Hope they either stay up (6 points for the toon and full-bloodied derbies) or they are totally humiliated and relegated again, breaking their own pitiful record.

Looks like it's going to be latter.

    Shame. :o

  7. I am thinking of changing to AIS - do they do the same thing??

yes... and worse. Frankly, I'm surprised you haven't already been billed by them for thinking of switching to their company. :o

AIS are a bunch of cheating t**ts.

In the past year I've been billed for calls to my dad's partner's house. I've never rung her. It's on my phone for emergencies only.

My phone 'rings itself' - over a period of 3 or 4 months my phone kept on ringing long distance numbers by itself (the keyboard was locked and I don't use speed dials). The missus didn't really believe me until one evening when it was lying on the bedside table and she saw the screen come on. It was ringing my dad in the UK.

A friend of mine was murdered in Phuket 3 years ago. I don't want to take his number off the SIM. I've rung him 5 or 6 times since he's been dead - according to AIS.

It is countless the amount of times friends have rung me because they are 'returning my call'. Calls I've never made.

Likewise, I get 'missed call' messages and then ring them back only to be informed that they never rung me. Common denominator is that we're all on AIS.

Would change but I need the superior coverage given by them.

  8. It has to be authorized translators, its for a p.r to Sweden, ill guess she has to do it in Bkk as usual.

    Thanks

I'm fairly certain that AUA in the campus of Khon Kaen University are authorised - tel 043 241 072.

    To get there :

Turn left into KKU at the northern traffic lights on the way to Udon.

Take the 2nd left (it's more like a fork)

Go straight until you come to the next lights. Turn right.

Go past the Humantities Faculty on the righthand side, then take the first right.

AUA is situated in the building directly in front you. Bottom left corner. Ask anybody around there if you can't see it.

  9. I dont know about you but i can allways manage 10 pints followed by a indian but find it almost impossible to do it the other way round !

    Ditto.

It's best for me to have a good meal before I start drinking, otherwise mates like Jimmy keep on reminding me of the embarrassing times when I didn't :o

  10. If you mean Foodmart near Trepprasit rd (opposite Pan Pan) then walk towards Jomtien about 100m and on the left (nr Beach Way Laundry) you will see "ACCHA" which is a great indian restaurant :o  OR walk the other way towards Pattaya up the hill and you will see "Indian by Nature" which is a  high class indian (have'nt tried the grub yet) :D

Blues Factory will be open saturday (not sure about friday yet) but if you want more Blues then come at around 10pm-1030pm then you'll catch the last set of The Blues Machine band, 1130pm onwards Lam Morrison.

If the ashes are on Sophon cable (doubt it) then I can have it on but I have'nt got UBC in the bar.

For kebabs. As Thaiflyer1 said there is a stall opposite coyotee's a gogo anf another one at the end of the street.

    Cheers

    DT :D

Christ on a bike!! Used to watch Lam Morrison down in Phuket years ago. Last time I saw him was at the Sofitel Khon Kaen 4 or 5 years ago. Has he grown yet?

  11. For  a  proper  pint  try  Shenanigans  located  out  the  back  of  the  Royal  Garden  Plaza  (2nd  road  just  before  Soi  Post  Office).........if  its  a  lads  night  out  if  you  come  out  of  Shennanigans  just  before  10pm  you  could  go  down  Soi  Post  Office  and  call  in  Hot  and  Cold  A-Go-Go (should  be  "show"  on  at  10pm.

    Thanks TF, great info.

Unfortunately it's a lad as opposed to a lads night out. Don't quite fancy sitting by myself drooling in a go-go bar!

You could always get some female employee's to sit with you :o

    They would do that?
