  1. 3BB = VIP = very intermittent package :whistling:

Ha, good one... and when you call them they are suprised that it's down and F about for 20 min calling Mars then finally agree with you...

They tols me I could not get it in my area.. I even sent google map... then after some time with other Thais NEVER looking at maps

I figured they don't know where I live.. so I kiddnapped the 3bb repair truck guys, got chummy with them and they put a new line into the street

    EASY...

just need to outthink the nonthinkers... or is that the other way around.. hmm.. unsure.gif

  2. Guys, I have been doing Remote Access for years, and yes, teamviewer is probably the easyest, but what they do is let you use free, but when you connect to a few PC's it starts dropping out all the time.

So what I see is happening is it's free for personal use, and how they monitor that is how many PC's you connect o over time.. so, if you connect to the same pc all the time then fine. There is also showmypc and mikogo,

hope that helps and good luck..

Use Teamviewer, its great, free, and even I can use it

    regards Worgeordie

  3. I am ok with cutting whatever waste but please focus on the trillions of dollars for these long drawn out wars that far exceed duration of World War II even though we are far more efficient now.

    http://costofwar.com/en/

And then there is the continuing costs to support veterans, etc. that doesn't stop when the war stops. Better for countries to maintain peace with the rest of the planet and just take out the Hitlers and Bin Ladens.

    +1

It all seems so obvious doesn't it?

And it is not like we are the only ones that see it so.....

The question begs who is being enriched by these things? Is it more of the same?

Lobbyist or contract companies selling products to get billions in contracts?

Lining the pockets of those that push for them?

Or is it that we as a country are now so unproductive that the government see the military

as the only viable employment source?

Has to be one of the above IMO because where is the real threat?

Who has the air forces & navies to be a real threat that require this kind of continual deficit spending

    on the military industrial complex?

I don't believe the US mainland has been invaded in 200 years so I doubt it has anything to do with defense

not invaded but they made their point..

  4. I find this extraordinary. Thai people are so gentle and kind with their young kids (in fact over protective in many occasions) that to read of such a shocking event is unusual to say the least. Whatever the circumstances may the poor lad RIP and the perpetrator of this shocking crime get everything that he deserves.

Extraordinary? Really? I have always had the opinion that child abuse runs through many societies and the only thing that should surprise is how far the adult criminals go. As noted in the article, the first hospital she went to, with her battered child in her arms, sent her to another hospital. There is your gentleness to young kids. I guess money rules even for broken children.

Quite common from what I hear, regarding stepfathers and stepmothers.... my own father had a stepfather from an early age... forced to fish and got fed the scraps and so on,

but when he became 16 he sorted him out and left the country.. I think there would be a lot of stepfathers / BF's that don't really want/ like their womans offspring..

  5. Greetings all, after looking into this issue for some time and getting all kind of different answers I thought I would try posting it here, as I have seen some people on this forum really have a great level of local knowledge.

My issue seems more that I am not in the "normal" situation of "I live in AU, have a 9-5 job, wants to bring my Thai GF over for a visit……" that would probably be easy.

Surely the AU embassy staff can take my case and see what's what without the doom/gloom replies some people have given me.

Situation : Simply would like to have a vacation in AU with my TGF I have been living with for nearly 2 years in our house in Phuket. Visit my 2 daughters and aging Mum and introduce my TGF.

There is always focus on assets so straight to that :

Nearly all I have is here, not in AU! So the normal job in AU to "support us" does not exist.

I have several investments, including the house we live in, under a company name which my TGF has 90% of the shares. We have 2 cars (selling 1) , bike. And live off cash in the bank, For 2 years (in Nov) I have been living with her with only time apart being 3 weeks visit to AU and a few visa runs (as we do) We would be staying at my mothers and other friends for about 1 month. Yes I am sure mom can write a invite if that is needed. (But she is retired) Will have to pay someone to house sit here as well, so I will be looking forward to getting back. (Don't really want to go but mums over 80, and I miss my daughters)

I will have half ownership of a house in QLD, with my sister soon, but god knows when the AU Lawyers pull their finger out, (they seem to answer to no one and if your mechanic stuffed and fumbled about like the Lawyers do you would not go back) Perhaps this bears some importance for the paperwork..

TGF has Degree from major BKK uni, nice employment history / CV and bankbook with considerable cash flow and from a family owning considerable rubber tree plantations.

I probably missed some info that's relevant here and given info that is not, but I have to start somewhere.

One thing makes me ponder is if I need 2 return plane tickets to her a visa and it doesn't happen, then what happens to her tickets?

Thanks to all who can share a bit of their time here, a great site.

  6. GF also received yesterday.

She put in her app about 12 days before, on a Friday. Monday got the email saying it was being couriered, turned up Wednesday.

She took bank books, passport (new and old, with relevant stamps), house and land deeds/books. She works at home so no letter from an employer, occupation "farmer". She has about 20k in the bank. I sent her bank statements showing my salary going in, money going out to her, phone and sms records (back about 1 1/2 years), copies of my PP pages showing Thai entry stamps and about 10 photos of us together with places and dates (4 to a page). Also wrote a 2 page letter of "support" stating the usual things, explaining my situation (where I was working before, what I do now, that I am a Kiwi in Oz etc) and listing my trips to Thailand since I have known her and our trips out of Thailand. Also talked a little about travelling to the village and staying at her house, having met her family - Ma, Pa, Aunts, Uncles, siblings, cousins, her 7 yo son. Wrote a short letter of invitation for her.

All in all was relatively painless. Asked for a 3 month multi so we can take a side trip to NZ, haven't got to the bottom of what type of visa was granted yet.

It shouldn't be "painfull" , it's a bit of paper....

  7. As an ex AU goverment employee (but far from the services sector) I would like to offer my insight as a student of human behavior.

(non traditional) I agree strongly with one person here on this topic, sad to be an Australian seeing this rubbish. I used to believe Aussies would make great UN decisive decisions if empowered to do so... due to their unracist and mostly unbiased deposition, however these days that has changed, perhaps it is the younger generation being more selfish? Like, what is in it for me? As opposed to the war time spirit of a young nation with values... As I travel the world and meet many peoples, the view of others regarding Aussies has been great. So regardless of whether we talk of gov staff of Aussies in general I feel our young are changing and the outside worlds view of us is also changing.. and NOT for the better...

So all you up and coming officials and whatever.. don't make your grandfather turn over in his grave.. take onboard the morals and truthfulness he had and do him proud... and all of us who serve.. military or otherwise.. actually, you who serve in the service of your fellow kin, should feel the weight of service no less than those that died to give you today the freedom you have... Do not follow the modern greed and beururatism thinking it makes you better in a job you don't like... ask yourself, as a person in a goverment position, do you really feel good making problems for your kinsmen? This just brings up you are not happy in what you do...

I have much more to add to this, but grow tired... thanks to all in this great forum who take the time to share...

This is a great forum.. and can produce an effective result if we combine our needs... please share..

as for our AU officials, come on!! we are also people.. and most likely from your state..

Lastly, but true... Power to the people.... YOU Bless u guys contributing to this great forum...

  8. Did l read here sometime ago that a guy was pulled by the BiB for lights on, something to do with only Police, government, or Royalty vehicles could so that others new they were important and to let them pass

well, thats why I have my Highwaypolice sticker in the windshield and lights on, in heavy traffic even fog lights and low beam on. and it works :)

but there is no law against daytime driving lights, and several new Euros like Audi and Benz have diode daytime lights not possible to switch off

all Police convoys use daytime lights, usually high beam

So, where can I get one?

me too... lol. I was eating at a Phuket main road the other day, waiting for my food when I heard what sounded like a police siren, I looked and looked.. then realized it was coming from a scooter with a helmetless Thai young man who looked like he was having fun...

  9. Is a work permit still acceptable as proof of residence for obtaining the 5 year license ? My one year expires next month.

I have to answer yes but considering your Name and the fact your a sponsor here shouldn't you know these types of things ?

Despite Spoonman's attempt at belittling genuine questions, and the fact that I am not a sponsor in this forum ( which he well knows ), I would like to add my experience of obtaining my 5 - year licence today in Pattaya.

I arrived early as I remember from last year, when I got my 1 - year license, that there can be quite a scrum. At 08.00 a lady started checking documents outside the main doors. I was close to the front of the "queue". She required

Copy passport photo page, and copies of my current extension of stay - signed

Copy of my work permit ( or my residence letter, I assume, if I didn't have the work permit ) - signed

Copy of my 1 - year licence ( which I was inclined to question as I had assumed they would keep the expiring licence ). It turned out that they actually return the old license to you, after punching a hole through it, so I guess that explains why they need a copy.

    Medical certificate ( original ).

By 08.20 my documents had been checked, and my fee ( 605 Baht ) paid. By 08.30 my photograph had been taken. At 08.40 I had the new license in my hand, and was out of there.

Interesting how you got a 5 year prior to your one year expiring... as all others here indicate one must wait for expiry of your one year to obtain the five year (but dont leave it more than 12 months one said)

    --------------------------------------------------------------

You pay, you pay, you pay.....

  10. My Dad wanted me to apply for a driving licence but you have to be 18 to have one, even though you can take lessons at 17. But apparently 17 year olds still drive on the road. I just wondered if anyone knew where I stood?

Lol, I have seen 8 year olds on motorbikes. 15 year olds with no licence, have a prank with a farang, put him in hospital with the result the child receiving a healthy payout (if that farang was not there this would not have been )

  11. ^^^ Yep, pretty much it, check out the pinned thread at the top of the motoring forum for full step by step details to get a Thai licence.

Just one thing, you can apply for your 5 year licence a considerable time after your 1 year expires (at least 6 months), not as noted above, if you go on the last day you'll get another 1 year, go the day after it expires and you get 5 :o

Motor insurance in Thailand is for the vehicle not the driver, if your lady has 1st Class insurance so do you provided you have a proper licence (IDP or Thai) :D

Guys, Guys... thanks for the info but am I the only one sitting here scratching my head wondering <deleted>? The points of:

1/ If you apply for a license renewal before expiry (like good little boys ) you only get ONE YEAR

2/ But if you go after expiry you get FIVE YEARS

This is the strangest thing... does anyone else have experience with this?

    ----------------------------

You pay, you pay, you pay....

  12. Why don't people buy insurance? That's what it's there for......the unexpected. And surely, the camp is licensed and thus has insurance coverage, too? The Gazette should do more than a 'happy ending' story like this and start to do some investigative journalism - and while they are at it, not use terms such as tragedy which implies loss of life. Horror would be more appropriate.

Totally agree with the lack of a responsible journalistic follow up regarding the usual issues here. With every tragedy humans should learn from it. Not just make a slap happy notice my 5 your old could do....

  13. Well if Mr Simon Farbenbloom of the Australian Embassy, If you really care and give a dam_n why don't you speak to Mr Kevin RUDD at DFAT and have him issue a travel warning to all the potential Aussie tourists that may want to visit Miracle Thailand warning them of the scams, dual pricing and the potential for violence. Maybe that is a big no as it may effect political relations between Australia/Thailand.

Well said... here the corruption is in you face, pay your bit / it's they way it is (as someone else said) But for Au Gov to not issue warnings that will impact on the goverments "plans" is that not also a scam in a way, but much deeper and evil.... (I'll shut up now as this is leading into the world order debate, lol)

  14. Hi There

I was just reading your concern about you living in Thailand , visa , etc .

My suggestion is for you to open a legit small biz thru a lawyer in Thailand .

It sounds more complicated than it is but !!!

1: You need a Non-immigrant "B" Visa before you come to Thailand , or you can enter on the regular Tourist Visa , but would then have to go Penang , or Singapore to get it .

My experience is that its better to have it before you enter Thailand , or though sometimes Thai embassy in foreign countries can be pretty though to work with , but with a good plan of yours would help.

    2:You need some start capital , about 4000$ US , Thai lawyer Fee , Goverment paper's e.t.c , 1 year visa .

3: After you have opened the company , the Lawyer takes care of you getting everything done in the right way :) Visa , accounting , but its good to find out what service your lawyer provides .

I went to thailand 2002 with a small amount of savings , opened a Company ( Music composer ) , and it gave me the securtity , and peace for not getting hazzelt around by the immigration .

    Best of luck

Most know the fees for this and that, but what was killing me was the 6600/month just for social for my "staff"! and my Tax. This is fine if your business makes more than all these costs of course...

  15. Adam kebab opening hours??

lad there told me open for lunch but who knows as closing time is very late ....

Thai wife told me they were open from 10am to 10pm. I was there Friday about 3pm & initially only visiting Swedish parents were present to serve.

Well I have seen them in action, they deliver FOR FREE!!! and have children, and have low prices and good value, so now and then the timing doesnt work out..... so considering they make, I dont know, 20 Baht on your 150 Baht order.... well there you go... they try very hard and I eat there a lot, even today, raining so much dont want to go out... they deliver for free, can only praise their service... fantastic....
  16. dancw3 - may we ask where you saw this information please as this applies to the CTPL and not the voluntary insurance ?

As for your statement "since the farang is almost always considered at fault" - this is a little disingenious - unless it really is the foreigners fault !

Whatever you vehicle as a Thai Visa member you can get an on-line quote HERE

I agree that "since the farang is almost always considered at fault" is quite accurate... some say that if the Farang was not on the road then the accident would not have hapend...

  17. Please, anyone with any helpful information please post or contact me.

NEED TO CHANGE MY VISA FROM ONE YEAR B TO EDUCATION VISA AND CANCEL MY WORKPERMIT.

As I am soon leaving my employment, wish to remain in Thailand and learn thai at school I need to change visas.

I have found that as most people desire what I want to cancel, there is very little know how on this topic.

I have the School documents ready to go, I intend to go to KL Thai Embassy.

From what "speculation" I have found, the best info I have to date is this:

I go IMI office and cancel my Visa and then have 24 hrs to exit LOS (so have to buy more expensive last min flights)

Also have to go to the Labour Dept to cancel my work permit (yes, taxes have all been paid.)

Why the heck I cant do this change of Visa without departing LOS is beyond me, I even picked up a "transfer of visa form"

from IMI office, which seems to be of no use....

I will go back to imi and try to obtain some clearer info, but as we all know.. nothing is a "rule" here and this

can make things difficult for us. This forum is a great help, and although there is some non valid info posted, either by

accident or otherwise, we should appreciate the efforts of the critics which have more experience and filter out the not so

valid info, so a great appreciation of this site and the time and effort of all you who help out, wishing you all a great day!

    THANK YOU!!
