  1. Just told wife to buy a Honda Jazz (top model) at 715K Baht.

It actually is a Japanese spec. with a few extras (6 air bags and other small features) at 750K baht (sold by a Honda dealer in Khon Kean).

Anyway the question is - there is no leather interior in the Jap. model I am told, so is there leather in the Thai SV model ?

Info from wife is, Honda says - no leather in the Thai SV model as well -

I have seen models 2010/2011 on one2car with leather interior.

The Honda website doesn't tell me if interior is leather or not.

Does anyone here know what the leather situation is on the SV model ?

    Thanks

  2. You can get upgrade kits for the headlights on the city.

If I wanted a medium size car I think I would be looking at the Cruze or I am warming towards the Captiva that would be my choice.smile.png

The reviews of the Cruze in the UK aren't glowing plus the residuals are crap. I'm going to the motor show next week to have a look at the new Focus and new Civic before I make a decision.

When is the new civic comming on the market ?

Honda's homepage still have the one on display.

As the wildtrak may be further delayed I will consider the new Civic instead as a second car.

  3. This is not unheard of.

When I had my C-Class Merc and followed the Merc forums there were a couple of cases of water being spashed on the front of car and being sucked through the air intake into the engine. Engine had to be replaced after that. So it's not a BMW thing.

    Regards,

    L

I was now told 2 other cars is parked in same repair shop with engine dammage due to water taken by air intake.

    A new BMW 320i and a 4 WD BMW (don't know model).

The 320i had it's engine totally destroyed where mine has less dammage and will be repaired.

Insurance company has said it will replace engine -free of charge- if it turns out the repair is not possible/good.

Mechanic at BMW told wife that if water comes up near front grill it will most likely take water in and destroy the engine. It is not uncommon apparently.

Clearly the car is not a offroad viechle, but here in LOS water sometimes are a bit high for comfort.

I will be very carefull in the future - for sure !

Have now ordered a Ranger Wildtrak - that sould cope better I hope.

This whole issue has somewhat sharpened my senses to water on the road.

  4. Ordered my 2.2 Wildtrac, no free insurance, only free glass tint. I will push for more.. there are 10 Wildtracs on back order at Rama 2 road branch, so they must be happy.

    2 month wait!

    #

Was told free insurance and rust protection + window film and some other stuff.

They said 6000 new Rangers is ordered thorughout Thailand, so a bit waiting time must be expected.

I will try to shop around for a quicker delivery - but not sure about that.

  5. Hi guys

Has anyone driven enough in the new 2,2 l Highlander/Wildstreak to tell me if the engine is powerfull enough for this truck ?

How is the general feeling of the truck compared to Toyota Hilux or Mitsubishi Triton ?

    Thanks

I've had the 2.2 6AT for 2 weeks now and very happy. The 2.2 actually has more power, and is more economical, than the outgoing 2.5 and together with the 6 speed (manual or auto) gearbox it feels plenty. Sure, it's a big truck but the 2.2 has enough power, I will rarely have a heavy load in the back, doubt I'll ever tow anything and won't be dragracing or attempting world speed records so don't need any more. Power is fine whether pulling away from lights in first or cruising at 140kph and the gearbox is adaptive so adjusts to each driver. Triton has more power but is fugly and not really worth mentioning the Hilux, so boring. The only other options I looked at were the new Isuzu and the new Chevrolet but both were quite a lot more expensive for similar spec and neither looked anywhere near as nice as the Ford or had as much interior space. Go with the Ranger, you won't be disappointed!

Thanks - good info (I don't need a race truck as well)

I am out of LOS now, so I will send wife to buy the truck - she has seen the Ford and she likes it (but I have to like it most).

Now I just have to tell her what make, colour and the hard part (send her money).

I think I will go for the Ford (2,2 Wildstreak)

AGHHHHHH Its called a "Wildtrack". Wildstreak is that thing you get in your shorts when you buy a Wildtrack!!

Haha - got it - I'm not a big truck fan, so haven't even bothered learning the name properly.

Wildtrack it is, and I won't change it again..

  7. I've owned my Mitsubishi Triton Plus, since April 2011, 4 door, 2 wheel drive automatic, I find it roomy with adequate comfort for rear seat passengers. I opted for the Pearl White version which came with simulated leather seats all round. I find it a pleasure to drive and feel very safe whilst doing so, up to now it hasn't given me any cause for concern and would recommend it to anyone looking to buy an inexpensive high wheel pick up.

The engine in the Triton is great,but...well,the rest is kind of "dated" ...wink.png

You are right + the interior looks kinda cheap.

I'm now more into the Ranger Wilstreak 2,2 L

  8. As pr other topc I have just parked my BMW 320D for a uncertain length of time.

I am now in the market for a truck.

I need a 2 WD 4 door that will be a daily runner (school etc).Must be comfortable (as good as possible for truck).

The Triton Plus (cost 820K) is available in 2 weeks - It looks cool but a bit cheap inside.

How is this truck overall ?

The waiting time on Toyota Vigo is much longe,r so not interested in that even I suspect the Vigo to be better quality.

    Ford Ranger ?

Would you buyv the Triton ?

  9. Right - engine has suffered dammage, but I don't how much.

The thing happend in Phuket a few days ago.

As other cars was moving slowly through the water she was doing same thing (can't really blame her for that) and than this (zip lore) came and changed things.

There is no water inside the car - all happened under the hood.

  10. Ok - now I have the story.

She is driving in trafic and the water is up to app. half the rim. There is many cars and she is driving slowly after others.

A 10 wheel truck is comming opposite with - too high speed for conditions - and causes a wave to splash the car (quite good). Others (like Honda Jazz) drove on - the BMW stopped.

The BMW workshop has confirmed that water has entered the engine itself - so not a matter of electrical alone.

They are now taking the engine out of the car to check how much dammage it has suffered.

The insurance company apparently understand the issue, and says they will cover all costs incl. a new engine if they deside to change it instead of repair.

The situation now is to find out how much dammage and act to that - minor issue = repair, big issue = change to new engine.

I was told the insurance company has no interest in doing a cheap/bad job, as that will hunt them in the future with constant repairs.

I guess BMW is trying to do the best they can to keep their costumer happy as well - so I hope and pray it will be solved professionally.

I will return when dammage is checked.

  11. Just spoke with wife over tlf,

She told me my new BMW 320d (4 month old) just stopped as a truck passed her on opposite lane with a big water splash.

According to her the depth of the water on the road was not a lot, but enough to make a good splash.

I forgot to ask her if she was able to crank the engine (hope it cranks).

She said the car just died and had to be towed to BMW Barcelone for check.

I am waiting to hear what has happened - I hope it's just electrical.

Anyway - a bit surprising that a new car dies just because of a water splash.

I hope I will not (at least not so quickly) go into the category of angry BMW owners that goes back to Jap. models again !

I like the power of the diesel and the car in general even the quality doesen't feel better than - say a Honda (as I had before).

  12. Just send a price suggestion to a guy in Pattaya for a second hand Civic.

Back came a link to the classified ad for the same car - without thinking of that I opened the ad, and the computer freaked out.

I managed to get the pc back to itsel,f but it shows what some people apparently is willing to do if they don't like your suggestion.

If he had told me to get lost or price is firm - fine - can take that !

    The virus thing is sick.

  13. I don't know if I want to upgrade the power yet but if I decide to do it what kind of ICU will be the best ?

This may void your BSI and 5 year warranty. :)

    320D 2011

Might be a good idea to take it back to the dealer and have then check the traction control.

Ok - piont taken with the power upgrade and warranty - the power standard is also quite impressive.

I thought traction control was to stop the wheels spinning ? That is excatly what it does in my case - BMW can possibly confirm that as well.

  14. Sounds like a problem with the DSC system. It shouldn't activate unless the wheels are actually losing traction, for example if you hydroplane. If the Vios could make it up the hill then something is amiss here.

The hill is very steep and the surface slippery and the vios is spinning wheels a lot, but can go because no traction control.

The BMW comes to a halt when the wheels start spinning and half way up this dam_n very steep hill.

I don't even think I will be 100 % ok when I put bigger rims on with good tyres instead of the run flat.

I guess that is just the way it is when I can't switch off traction control.

I should mention there is no problem in general - accleration also in slippery weather is all normal - only this steep hill side to my friends house has caused problems.

  15. plenty of excellent german engine electronic tuning, but racechips.de is certanly the cheapest and not seen anyone not happy with it

I assume you switched off the ESP/stability aid, as the anti spin/traction control cant be switched off

assume you are running run flat tyres, and they dont have very good traction

yes everything still standard. I will upgrade wheels and tyres as the next thing.

Ok it was ESP I switched off - still pisses me a bit off that with anti spin control the car comes to a halt when it is a bit slippery.

My friend was laughing - his Toyota Vios make it up the hill with wheels spinning and so on but I can't go.

Thanks - I will check out the german sita for ECU upgrade.

  16. I bought a new 320d SE 2 month ago and is fairly happy with it.

However I was supprised when I 1 day was going to a friends house (which is up a steep hill),. In the wet condition the antispin took over and the car couldent go up the hill.

I pushed the antispin button to off but still the same - the anti spin still had total control over the car - <deleted> ?

After revercing back down and with more speed I finally made up but with a lot of unpleasant antispin control going on.

    Anybody had same experience ?

I don't know if I want to upgrade the power yet but if I decide to do it what kind of ICU will be the best ?

    Thanks

  17. I originally went to Barcelona Chiang Mai where I received terrible service. I then went to Millenium Auto Rama IV where I got a much better deal but not a 200,000 baht

discount off my 320d M Sport.

I only got a 110,000 baht discount but I got a few other things included as well as the 1st years first class insurance.

Maybe I should have avoided any dealings with these guys until the payment was due. In other words send in a Thai to do the deal.

If I buy another one in the future looks like Millenium Lad Prao is the place.

Did you ever consider the Benz 250 Cdi ?

I haven't seen any used ones for sale on the common sales sites - It seems the BMW 3 diesel is selling better than the C-class diesel - or the Benz owners just don't put them up for sale just yet ?

Don't know If the 250 Cdi is sold with the new facelift by Official Mercedes, but it is an awsome car to look at.

  18. Thanks for the info - I'm buying in Aug. (don't know if used or new yet) but the list price for the sport is 2,9 mill. as far as I remember - so you paid 2,7 mill. than ?

    Thanks again

The list is actually 2,999,000 and we paid 2,799,000 and they included the first years insurance..

I see Siamcanuck got the same deal.. and the same dealer.. so I am guessing that is not a very special price.. they told us they were trying to thin the invetory...

as bmw keep sending me offers with 25% down and 48 months interest free, it is for a cash purchaser at least 220.000 baht in interest discount in a 320d

Thanks for the info - I guess you live in Phuket (as I do) and it is Barcelone Phuket that send you these offers ?

I will chech them out as soon as I return home - not to forget the second hand ones should be possible to get a good deal there.
