  1. It happened to me once at the Rimping near airport plaza. I was short changed 100 baht (after giving her 1000). I came back and before I could say a word she handed over 100 baht. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I still shop at Rimping and it has never happened to me again since but I check my change each time now too.

  2. I have been to the Holiday Inn Sunday buffet a few times and enjoy it. We get a 20% discount because of some "membership card" which we don't actually have in physical form, it apparently exists but we've never received the card although we receive the discount and apparently all you need to do to get one is to ask the manager. The food is good, my favorites are probably the desserts and the crab cakes.

I've also been to the Fujian (at the Mandarin Oriental) Dim Sum "buffet" - it's not actually a serve yourself buffet - when I was there a few months back the price was 600 baht and you order as much dim sum from the menu and they cook it up for you fresh. Also comes with chinese tea. It's the best dim sum I've had in CM but people who have been to the best in Hong Kong may have some grumbles. The rest of you probably won't mind.

The Mandarin Oriental has another buffet just behind reception. I had a look in after I'd already eaten at the Fujian and it looks good although I prefer the larger setting of the Holiday inn personally. My friend tells me that the Mandarin Oriental is about double the price (from his memory) of the Holiday inn and that although it is definitely better than the Holiday Inn buffet it is not double the quality. He still happily goes there. One of these days I'm going to try it but I've been trying to cut down on the all you can at experience for health reasons.

  3. I'm a foodie and my loyalty to any place only lasts as long as that place is serving good food. I go to Dukes because they serve good food consistently. If anyone can names place that equal or better the quality of their food (especially the pizza and burgers) that I genuinely want to know because as I said I'm a foodie and I would want to be eating there or at least trying it out.

  4. Wow, I got a flight with Jetstar from BKK- MEL in May for 5,500 BHT including 20 kg baggage. Slightly bigger seats than air asia. Food more expensive but I filled up at the stores in BKK. Big plus was that it was direct from BKK to MEL vs Air Asia which stopped in KL. I would have thought that you could get a much better price than 23,100Bt - this must be a return ticket right? Otherwise you should even look at Malaysian Airlines.

  5. I dunno how FedEx Thailand work out the extra charges but I've paid more than the cost of the items + shipping before. As a result I don't use FedEx for Thailand anymore. In Australia however FedEx is great and I never have to pay any extra charges.

  6. Commercially sealed and labelled ahould be ok, my wife brings back dried prawns. dried garlic etc...

    Remember to declare it

Perhaps that's where one might go wrong. No need to declare if you're not sure. Chances are, bringing unneeded attention to the customs folks will bring on unneeded strife. Probably pass through without incident.

In Australia, I've always declared when I'm not sure. They seem to appreciate the fact that I'm trying to do the right thing by the Australian laws and customs has always been pretty cheery with me.

  7. Riding out past Mae Jo on the HWY got hit by a bucket of water in the face at 70km/hr. First one and I didn't expect or see that one coming and it knocked my head back. Dangerous stuff. There were about 15 "squadrons" in total during my trip but I managed to slow right down for the rest safely. Seems to be more enthusiasm to keep it going as I got into more rural areas.

  8. The owner was friendly but I'm still on the fence about the food. I like that they make their own sauces, tahini and chilli sauce and that you get to use as much as you like. The chicken shawarma was different from what I'm used to. It was more like stir fried chicken in some type of sauce in bread. The shawarma I'm used to is chicken cooked on a type of spit.

Nothing was actually bad but nothing stood out as good to me either. Still, I'd give it a go again and try something else.

  9. I only drive in rainy season or if I'm going to pick up lots of supplies. The bike saves me 10x the amount of time and that is cruising at 40 km/hr.

My friend is driving a big bike and it is ridiculous. I'm always waiting for him. All that power but he can't cut through traffic.

But he's smiling all the way. Good for him. :D

Nah he's usually cursing. A good friend but he's got a bad temper.

  11. Salsa Kitchen is the only place I go to for Mexican food now. El Diablo's just doesn't do it for me and every time I've eaten at Miguel's I've cursed myself for letting myself get burned again.
