  1. Yes, a long time!!!!

I concur, many ex SAS, Paras, US Special forces in Thailand, I take it that they just want to 'get away'!!!

I have also met many EX Brtitish Airways pilots who are retired in their 40's. Wish I had joined BA and became a pilot to retire very early!!What a geat job that must have been, seeing the world, pretty cabin crew, good salary and obviously a great pension scheme! I know what I will tell me kids to be!!!!!

The thing that I find funny is that they think others believe them!!! Maybe some do but me??? nah.

BA ... pretty cabin crew? Been a while since you have flown BA eh?

  3. Returned from LOS yesterday eve after flying Qatar.

My reveiw, good airline, good staff, food crap as all other airlines. Bussing to terminal OK, no big hassles as time to waste, on schedule and ealry into LHR last night by 40 mins.

Doha airport, funny thing, outbound with the short 2hrs odd stopover we were in a terminal with teribble toilets and 1 crappy food vendor, hated it.

On inbound were taken to another transit terminal, more toilets (cleanish), food vendors with more choice but still as in all airports expensive (2 x latter, 1 x coke and 1 x chips £12.50).

So, will we fly Qatar again, yes, probably if flight price is OK and reflects stops and crappy time inDOH.

Still prefer EVA but await Thai to get AVOD and will try them again again if price right. As for Etihad, preferred for stop if price again reflects it.

  4. Don't delay, book ASAP, bet this'll be a popular route!!!!!!!

NEW ROUTE! Etihad today announced that we will soon begin flights to Tripoli, our fifth North African destination. The return flights, to be operated by an Airbus A330-200 with 22 Pearl Business Class and 240 Coral Economy seats, should be on sale within weeks.

  5. Hi

Coming to Thai Wednesday 19th. Can anyone in Pattaya Beach area please povide weather updates on a daily basis please?

I have a small child and if flooding etc. we may need to cancel.

Is there any flooding in the area? Can we get from Swampy to Pattaya easily without hazards?

I'll appreciate updates as to weather (beautiful sunshine to torrential rains!) and any flooding updates as well as other snippets.

    Thanks all.

  6. I rate Nationwide as No 1 and have done since they were Nationwide Anglia many moons ago! It is a shame they now charge for international withdrawals in Thai. Never mind.

Does anyoen have experience with transfering the other way? It is SWIFT? Any other method but not WU or money changers etc?

I need to get about 400,000 back to the UK from Thai. I understand the sender needs to ask the bank to convert to GBP before sending? What is the fee? How long does it take to arrive (approx)? Is there a limit in what you can send each time?

    Cheers all.

I had a rental company in the UK from 1990 - 2000 and we vetted ALL prospective tenants, made quartely inspections and did the right thing for our clients, the landlords.

There are bad guys out there but don't tar everyone with the same brush. If you do you homework, have recommendations, etc. etc. you are likely to be OK as a landlord. Things do happen, washing machines, boilers etc. break down, it has to be expected and factored into any profit you hope to make.

But back to the OP, never buy without viewing and researching. A question, would you buy a house/condo in Thailand without seeing it when you were living in say the UK? Nope, and only a fool would.

You have answered your own questions really and now have confirmation from others.

Forget this idea, go to the UK, look around and buy. Easier and there'll be less tears.

    Good luck.

The 10% they quote will not include their agency fees, certificates for gas/electric, wera and tear etc so suddenly you are down to about 7%....rent will be taxed as taxable income so again you will loose 22% 0r 40% if you are a higher rate taxpayer...not forgetting that most areas of the UK are actually seeing property prices drop...especially in older Northern Industrial towns.......compare Thailand...yes agents will typically charge 10% but thats it..no certs to bother with, no tax to pay and in certain areas such as Pattaya, condos in good locations are always sought after so hold their value........you will get other views but Thailand at present beats the UK hands down.

rental income is taxable in Thailand!

Wouldn't touch what you haven't seen yourself.

Apart from the tax considerations I have found rental agents do not vet tennants very well and generally don't ensure good care is taken of your property. I think rental properties in the UK can be worthwhile but only if you are there to do everything yourself.

  8. Hello all.

I am in Pattaya next week and want to ask if anyone knows or can find out some prices for plumbing supplies in Pattaya?

I am looking specifically for a few items:-

    1). Lead free solder - 500g

    2). Bernzomatic TS7000 or TS8000 gas torch

3). Rothenberger Superfire 2 gas torch.

I know that Thais don't use copper for plumbing usually but I work in the UK and prices are through the roof so though if I can get supplies while I am there and put them in the suitcase I'll have a nice family holiday and buy some bits too. It'll make the flight and hotel prices a little sweeter!

I know there are a few DIY superstores around but looking on the websites the details are not great.

    Any info would be great.

    Thank you

  9. Totally agree with not going to get the cream or anywhere near it.

....however i have to disagree with some of the other posters here about Howard Miller ..........if this is a job that is being offered and Howard is in the running for it then based on my interactions with him, i think he deserves to get it...........

It doesn't really matter what you or any of us think about the present Honorary Consul or future Vice-Consul - all the Embassy can do is choose the best (hopefully) of those applying, and for a salary which is little more than a tenth of what a regular Embassy official doing the same job would get (including allowances, etc) it is little wonder that those applying may not be the cream.

When Barry was asked to do the job officially he had already been carrying out most of the tasks of the HC / V-C for some time with no salary, little recognition and none of the "status" usually associated with the title.

Whatever imagined "status" the position may have had has now gone and the Embassy are asking for applications from those wanting to be a doormat for ten hours a day, four and a half days a week, and "on-call" 24/7 - all for less than 40,000 baht a month after the salary has been "abated". Unless they (and we) are very lucky it is unlikely that anyone with any form of family, social or personal life or any real ability will apply - there aren't many "Barry's" out there unfortunately, particularly in Pattaya, so although we may get something that floats it probably won't be cream.

If that is what you want to beleive then don't come back here and post ' how do i get my money back'.

Thai ladies, especially those in bars/gogo places know the score, they learn early on how to as you put it be a player, remember ot's your life. You mention that maybe she will want to go to you country, you are not concerned that you will be the partner of a hooker who had shagged many men? How can you face your family/friends?

As I say forget her now before you lose everything. If you ar living in Thailand, find a nice decent female with a good education and who works in a non- sexual industry. I'll then give you all teh support you need.

Good luck but take the advice before you board that plane alone with an empty bank account.

Let the OP learn the hard way, hairdressing in Thailand? Maximum, what 10,000 per month when at her agogo she is pulling in 30 - 60K She may be a hooker but who is the stupid one? Forget her and forget about funding her for ANY courses.

Try soy 25 in nakhula. There is a school (free) for girls wishing to get out of the bars. My gf took a computer class there and it was great. I think it is called "Fountain of Life Center"

Cheers m8, will have a look at it today if its open, as i just live around the corner from soi 25, nukhula

I know hairdressing in thailand is little coin compaired agogo clubs, but sometimes these girls need a chance in life, I know their are alot of players out there, but they cant be selling their bodies for the rest of lifes.

Somet times these girls they get caught up in the trap of coming to pattaya and making easy money and either end up still working in the clubs/bars for the rest of their lives or marrying an old farang guy.

Ill try that place on soi 25 as they do salon and its free, if she's not keen or just plain lazy to finish the course then its time to move on

The reason I want ther to do some sort of course is if she does come back to my country she has something behind her, also she gets a fresh start in life, all these girls are doing is helping out their familys....is that a crime?

  12. ebay and get one sent over from the UK, very cheap. You may even be lucky and get one from the 60's!!! Ahhh the good old days!

I have only seen the 1 String ones in Hotel Bathrooms, so maybe worth having a look in Hotel Supply Shops.

  13. I like Boat for the money, 59b? real bacon, eggs how you wantm, tea, toastcan't complain with that. Waiters always remember us, good with kids, a little hot as no air con but locals go there, quick, easy. I like it. See you at Boat on 20thOoctober!

For an English style brekky Chow soy will take some beating. Canterbury Tales cafe used to be the best in Patts but has gone downhill The last year or two. . I wish there was a good place near my house in Korat . I do miss a good brekky sinced i moved here from Pattaya.

  14. I was going to ask exactly the same thing!

It strikes me that if everyone who wants to buy in Pattaya but can't afford it talks teh market down then prices will drop.

Maybe vice versa, so as I own a house there I reckon prices are too cheap! Come on property owners, join in and the prices wil rise.

So Las Vegas has cheap housing, doesn't most of the USA these days, what relevance does this have to Thailand ?
