  1. So I was on Koh Tao for a couple of weeks with some friends.

On my last afternoon there, I was sitting on the rocks looking at the sunset.

Then this thai guy with his young kid start swimming near me and laughing/playing throwing seaweed at each other, then in the corner of my eye I see a pretty girl walking over in a bikini and sarong.

She starts swimming in front of me and then starts playing with the other 2(who turn out to be her father and brother). I give her a nice smile and she jumps up next to me and we start chatting. When she starts being flirty I ask her age, because she looks about 17 if that(im only 22), she says shes 20. Anyway blah blah a couple of hours pass and she's telling me how much she likes me and holds onto my arm looking at me almost trying to get a kiss, then she has to leave with her dad and brother. So we exchange email and she tells me I have to meet here at her familys massage store the next day lol she says she only work reception... then she gets upset when I say I cant because Im leaving the next day but will keep in contact and maybe come back another time.

So then I leave Koh Tao, back to Bangkok to farewell my friends and then head to Malaysia to get a visa.

In the last 3 weeks, since I left, we've been emailing back and forth and I havnt really been paying much attention just keeping her on the line so to speak. Well shes been a little over the top, saying she misses me so much and she wants me there "now!" I took this as her just being an emotional thai girl but always considered off course that there could be more to it since we only met in person once lol.

Now im in Chiang Mai like I had planned and will be in bangkok tomorrow and she keeps getting angrier saying I have to be there for her birthday and that I can stay at there place, her parents are okay. I keep telling her I'll be down that way soon(in 2 days but she dosnt know that). Then today I thought i'd let her know i'll be there in 2 days, since she is really nice and pretty and well yeah im attracted to her.

Then just as I go to let her know im finally heading down, I open my hotmail account and theres an email from her. She writes she has a secret she needs to tell me, she says that she had some money saved up in her bank then her uncle stole her banking book and withdrew all her money about 2 months ago, he could do this because his name is on the account aswell. She says she told her parents but they cant do anything because her uncle owns there house and the massage business. And she said that she dosnt want my money, she just had to tell someone because she feels alone and no one cares...

Now my first reaction was ha shes trying to get my sympathy and is just another thai girl after money(not that there anything wrong with that). But im in two minds because I already told her Im poor lol and she said she dosnt want money just needed to tell someone.

But I cant help thinking she's trying to set up a relationship thinking i'm a chump and will send her money... Or in the back of my mind im even thinking maybe she is underage and wants me to stay with her then her dad would try extort money from me... I mean he did seem rather casual with her holding onto my arm and almost kissing in public.

So im heading down south tomorrow, should I take the ferry to see her(I do get along with her the best out of all the thai girls i've met) or should I turn and run??? :)

  2. Looking for an apartment in or around Chiang Mai for 13000Baht or less a month.

I fly in next week and need a cheap place to stay for a month or more while I work(online).

Is it hard to find places in Chiang Mai that arn't on a 6 month lease???

Where should I look? What are the cheaper area's?

    Serviced apartments? Hotels?

Is there area's outside of Chiang Mai that are cheaper?

    Any help appreciated, Thanx

  3. A hotel for an average of 400bt a night - with thick walls, and a gym! Come on.

Best bet might be a national park, where you could probably get a bungalow cheap for a month. Some of them can be quite deserted at this time of the year. A beautiful spot is Doi Phuka National Park in Nan province, but very remote - you'd probably have the bungalows all to yourself and could strum to your heart's content. Also, a host of walking trails and beautiful mountain scenery.

There is a Thailand National Parks online directory - sorry, don't have the url, but google should find it for you. Happy hunting.

Cheers for the reply. Im actually starting to find a few places in that price range

    chiangmai-thai.com/pt_apartment.htm

    chiangmai-thai.com/viangbua_mansion.htm

Im guessing on foot I could find even more.

But I will be sure to check out Doi Phuka and other national parks.

    Thanks for the advice :)

  4. Hey everyone,

I've been traveling, partying and doing the touristy thing for the past couple of months in Bangkok and the southern islands and now I've got my new double entry tourist visa I feel like chilling somewhere a little different.

Heres some info on what Im looking for

    • Somewhere with some nice mountains/hiking trails
    • Cheap
    • Decent hotels under 12,000baht a month, the cheaper the better. with thick walls(I play guitar)
    • Not as many tourists as the islands
    • Im not looking to drink or hang in bars or get bar girls
    • More interested in nature, wildlife this time round
    • Near a gym would be nice aswell, perfect if the hotel has a gym
    • Oh and did I mention Cheap :D

So far my thoughts have been to go north, Chiang Mai, Isaan(could be too much of a culture shock for me at the moment, I dont plan on learning to speak fluent Thai, let alone Thai Lao lol)

Please let me know if you have any suggestions, im open to all advice.

    Thanks, Pete :)

    Hey everyone,

I've been traveling, partying and doing the touristy thing for the past couple of months in Bangkok and the southern islands and now I've got my new double entry tourist visa I feel like doing something a little different with my time, atleast for the next month.

So I thought i'd ask here for some friendly advice on where to go.

Heres some more info on what Im looking for

    • Somewhere with some nice mountains/hiking trails
    • Cheap
    • Not as many tourists as the islands
    • Im not looking to drink or hang in bars or get bar girls
    • More interested in nature, wildlife and food/culture this time around
    • Somewhere with nice budget hotels under 14000baht a month, cheaper the better
    • Somewhere in the vicinity of a gym if possible
    • and heres the unique part, somewhere where I can play my guitar and write songs without feeling uncomfortable of annoying anyone

That last point is a bit strange but it is important to me. I came over here with my acoustic guitar and am now in the mood for writing some songs. But the thing is every time I pull out the guitar, whether in my bungalow or on the beach the locals are fine with it at first and usually start listening and then come over to talk, which is great but then I hate having to try and explain that im practicing/writing and I can tell they get a bit annoyed when I sing the same thing over and over. So yeah bit of a strange question I know but guess im looking for a place that dosnt have paper thin walls lol or would be even better if theres somewhere nearby I can go to be alone and practice, most of these tourist islands you cant escape people at all.

So far my thoughts have been to go north, Chiang Mai, Isaan(could be too much of a culture shock for me at the moment, playing music is my first priority at the moment)

Please let me know if you have any suggestions, im open to all advice.

and please dont post if your just going say something along the lines of

"why'd you come to thailand if you want to just write songs"

    Thanks, Pete :)
