hi.. can anyone help?
my thai wife has a thai friend (female) that wants to come to England with us. the only contact she has there is us. she wants to stay for one month as a tourist. she would be able to live with us at my parents house for the duration of her stay. my wife already has 10 year tourist visa but her friend has never been to the UK before.
what is the likelihood of her gaining a visa? has anyone been in this situation? can i act as guarantee financially? what information would i need to provide?
thanks in advance if anyone can help

Hi.I have also done some research on this and I've found that for a Thai school with an English programme and non religious there are the following
1.The montessori school ( expensive). www.pitisuksa.org/
2.AMEC www.amecschool.in.th a Bi-Lingual Thai school
3.Tessaban 7
4.Anuban Chiang Rai ( near Tessaban market)
Mariruk is a private christian school as is the CRICS www.flcschool.com
Santi Vithaya another christian school also has an English programme..
Hi
I know this was posted a while ago, but was hoping you could tell me how much is is to send a kid to the montessori school in chiang rai.. or if anyone else knows..
much appreciated
cheers

there's beena few posts on this but still not all that clear..
would like to import a land rover into thailand.
i've heard that if it's been in my thai wife's name for 18 months? then we might be able avoid any tax. Anyone know any more detail on this? i'm not sure but the website that i just looked at seemed to say that she needed to have been living in the UK for those 18 months. We were hoping to just transfer ownership and wait 18 months and then bring it over to thailand.
any one done this? can any one help?
cheers

Good news, got a 10 year visa to the UK granted today.
My wife has had 3 '6 month visas' over the last 3 years and we decided to go for the 10 year and got it.
I said that i'd post what happens.
Cheers
Congratulations
How long did you have to wait?
RAZZ
cheers
we only had to wait about 2 weeks. Had it sent to Chiang Mai. I think the '10 year' pile isn't all that big so maybe it gets processed quicker?

Anyone could be named on the birth certificate as the father, it is just a claim. Only when you are married will the law automatically asume the husband is the father. If not, who the father is needs to be confirmed. Just putting the name on the BC is not enough for that. Both parents need to confirm it and under Thai law the child needs to confirm it as well, or you have to go to court and the judge makes a decision on your petition. (or you marry the mother).
thanks

Hi, can you tell me how does a 10 year visa work if the passport is only valid for 5 years? can it be transferred onto the next passport issued?
You can travel with both passports as the visa remains valid in the expired passport.
You can transfer the visa if you wish, but that costs about 3900 Baht, if you should lose the old passport you would need to make a fresh application and pay a new fee.
thanks

*will tell him to try Kasikorn
*you say that he needs to convert to non O before getting the one year extension. where does he do that? at the same place he'll get the one year extension? and can that be done on the same day?
*so, he gets 40,000 each month sent to him from his parents - he doesn't actually work other than take care of his wife and child. do you think that his embassy would certify that?
thanks for your advice!
He cannot convert from a tourist visa to a non-O visa, as currently he is not the legal father of th child, he will need to tak care of that first. Suggest he starts this process first and in the mean tim he can get a non-O visa whih will give him a permission to stay for 90 days or go to Kuala Lumpur and show funds in the bank of 100,000 baht and ask for a muliple non-O there.
Once he is the legal father he can get a 1 year extension of stay. Becoming the legal father will take a few months, provided the mother cooperates.
Required is an income of 40,000 baht a month, that is not the same as depositing 40,000 a month in a bankaccount. It is the embassy who decied what they will accept as proof.
thanks
why is he not the legal father of his child? he has his own name on the child's birth certificate

VAT1.4 Visa validity - What period for a multiple entry visit visa? There is no requirement for a person to have held a short term visit visa before being issued with a visit visa which has a longer validity. For example, an applicant does not need to have been issued with a standard six months visit visa before being issued with a five year visit visa. Unless there are grounds for not issuing a long term visit visa, the ECO should issue the visa applied for. (My emphasis)
Applications for long term visit visas will be considered in the light of :
- Credible ongoing reason to visit. A successful applicant must demonstrate a frequent and sustained need to come to the UK, such as family links or an established business connection.
- Stability of personal circumstances. As far as possible applicants 'status should be unlikely to change significantly during the validity of the visa. The better able the applicant is to demonstrate stability over the long term the more it will support an application for a longer period of validity.
- Successful applicants will also need to demonstrate that they are able to support themselves in the UK without recourse to public funds, and demonstrate that they would intend to leave the UK at the end of each visit.
- Previous travel history as evidenced in a current valid passport, which might include travel to Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Schengen countries, Switzerland, or the USA in the same category as the application to the UK, for example, as a visitor. Holding a valid visa for any of the aforementioned countries, evidence they complied with conditions of entry, that applications for these countries were not refused nor were they removed from a country on their last trip, would all help to support the application.
Care should be taken when considering long term visa applications from child visitors. They should only be granted a visa which is valid to six months past their 18th birthday. For instance, a 14 year old applying for a five or ten year long term visit visa, the visa expiry date should be limited to the date that is six months after the applicant's 18th birthday.
In all instances, if an ECO decides that a shorter validity of visit visa is more appropriate than the one applied for, the ECM should approve it and notes should be added to Proviso. In such cases, no refund (full or partial) is available. The ECO should ensure that clear explanatory information for the decision is provided in a covering letter when the passport is returned.
thats a pretty useful bit of text. where did you find that?
also promising
thanks

Anyone get anywhere with the 10 year visa to the UK>?
My wife is about to apply so will let you know but would be nice if anyone has any news about success, or failure
Thanks
My Gf recently got a 5 year visit visa granted.Would have applied for the 10 year visit visa but intend to go for a settlement visa for the sake of our daughters education before the 5 years is up.
Since we got the 5 year visa it is my assumption that it is very likely that we would have also been granted the 10 year visa had we applied. After all what is required for one is required by the other be it for 5 or 10 years...in theory at least??
that's promising
so, with 3 previous visits, we're in for a chance. it would save the hassle of having to go to bkk each time.
i'll post what happens after we know.
cheers

* He should be able to get a bank account. If one branch asks to much paperwork, just go to the next one. Kasikorn apparently is pretty easy on foreigners.
* Yes, he can get the extension when on a tourist visa. It will require one extra step, he will have to convert to non immigrant O status, at a cost of 2000 Baht. To do this he will need at least 21 days of stay remaining in Thailand, and all the paperwork proving that he qualifies for a 1 year extension based being a parent.
* The extension is not really based on the money coming into the bank account, but rather on him proving that he is legally earning it. If earned within Thailand he'll need his tax papers showing the income, if earned abroad, the income will have to be certified by his embassy.
*will tell him to try Kasikorn

Hi
Anyone know if its possible to get a 1 year extension visa without a non O visa currently being held and without being married. My friend does, however live with his girlfirend here in thailand and he does have a 6 month old daughter that he takes care for.
He currently lives here by doing a 2 month tourist visa and a one month extension.
he wants to get a supporting a child 1 year visa if its possible
he can't open a bank account at the moment as they say its now the law to have a non O visa to do that. he is going to go to the US embassy to see if they can help on that one.
does he need a non O to do this? if so does he need to leave the country to get that?
and if he gets a non O and can open an account and show he has 40,000 each month coming into his account, can he get a 1 year extension not being married but supporting his daughter and girlfriend?
too many questions in one post?
can anyone help?

Based on having a Thai child is possible, under the same rules as for marriage: income of 40,000 THB or 400,000 in the bank.
He must have custody over the child (he registerd the birth of the child himself at the amphur, not his Gf or the hospital etc). But some immigration offices seem to demand sole custody.
So other than the marriage certificate he just needs to follow the same procedure as with marriage visa application..
is it absolutely necessary that he shows 40,000 income per month?> and how far would that income have to backdate?
Re custody he did register himself at the amphur and its is name on the birth certificate.
Thanks

A friend has a child with thai wife and wants to know if its possible to get the same 1 year visa extension that i have based on marriage to a thai national.
he lives with his thai girlfriend and that have been together for over 3 years.. but don't want to marry.. so can he get a 1 year extension visa based on the need to support his child?.. his child is 2 months old and has been registered at the local office, has a birth certificate etc. they don't have tabien baan but could get it, he doesn't have much income..
thanks

So just had a fairly successful run to maehongson and back. although the officer had never done a marriage extension before we managed to get through it all in about 2 hours.
so the only thing i didn't need was the kor sor 3 but i did need everything else i was previously advised, including pictures in and around the house..
i'll have to go back next month to get the relevant stamp
i've also been advised that someone will be coming to visit us within the month to check out if its all kosher.. so only then and once the application has been through the relevant channels will i know if i've got this extension or not..
the good news is that, if i get it, i won't need to go anywhere for a year as they say its fine to send by post the passport and 90 day application every 3 months..
so, my question if anyone is willing, how much is it for a stamp to leave the country? And whats the procedure to do that? I've heard about multiple exits vs. single but not sure on price or procedure
Also, i'm happy to give anyone advice on doing this in maehongson now that i've just done the deal..
Cheers

hi
can anyone out there can advise me how i check the speed of the internet service that i'm using/?
i've got CDMA on trial and although it seems quick i'm not sure it lives up the the 3.1 MG it advertises.. so wanted to know if there is a way i check on my laptop
can you help?
I think you're in the wrong forum but anyway try http://speedtest.adslthailand.com/
If you get above 80% of the claimed speed locally, that's considered ok. On an international link you can expect the speed to fluctuate between pretty good and pretty bad depending (mostly) on the time of day.
just got 1.7M with adslthailand..

still its pretty fast for what i need. thanks for your replies and sorry to end up in the wrong forum

Non-O Extension Renewal
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Hi
\
can someone remind me what is required to extend for another year (my non-O one year extension is due to expire on 27th December).
also, will the immigration need to come and check me out again at my address? i ask only because i might need to travel in January and last year they expected me to wait around for a month until they had been to the house to check if it was for real.
thanks!
