  1. Another aspect of this is that many people imagine Thailand is a gay/ts paradise. It is if you are a monied tourist, but everyday gay and TS Thais often experience family rejection and social problems. I wouldn't assume this poor person had a great family support system. Then there is teenage aspect, their brains are really different, suicide is always a risk for young people as they lack the perspective of time to see their current problems in context.

a very short while ago, less than a month to be precise, six (6) 16 years old tried committing suicide. two succeeded whilst 4 backed out at the last moment.

their mission: to save the world.

their "tutors"? the internet lan GAMES ROOM, apparrently.

    their country of origin? SINGAPORE!

    fragile souls and fragile minds????

their profiles: all six come from average income families, i.e. in singapore context , "poor families, with poor grades at school but with hearts of gold for wanting to save the world out of its miseries.

    conclusion? none to offer here.

can any psychoanalyst offer any ideas here to help prevent this in thailand.....

as many young children are seen in internet cafes past midnight these days....

(sorry, just realised this is a gay suicide topic. mods, pls help post this where relevant or delete it if no such young people issue topic can be found to be related to it.)

concern here when i replied to the posting by jingthing was suicides amongst young people.

  2. National Intelligence Agency... that has about as much validity as "Mexican Border"

I would not give to much credit to US intelligent community, beside I thought they were trained by Mexican anyways :)

    ....us intelligence????

explain how sept 11 or 9/11 happened, given all the us intelligence....

    france, thailand and mexico?????

    comparing apples and pears?????

thais are more capable than that.....whatever the color of the shirts they are wearing......

perhaps some people come from some closeted world where book knowledge reigns supreme and is out of sync with the real thai world.....

  3. Hello, I was offered a job in Chumphon and was wondering what it was like to life there? Like, is there any night life or are there many expats there? Also what kind of things are there to do, diving, hiking, or other outdoor activiteis, maybe surfing? Also what is the cost of living like? Thanks for your help.

    JT-

off-shore work or marine industry work, your work, i mean.

chumpon is basically a fishing village of sort but it is definitely livable and not so commercial like pattaya. farangs do live there but mostly holiday elsewhere . nice beaches here and there and nice folks too.

  4. Jasreeve, I also think Thais don't give a hoot about the "divide" or "reconciliation", I bet even those 24% are worried about the impact of actual rallies rather than the alleged reasons behind them.

There's another number in that survey - some 90+% of Thais think there's more to unite than divide them, and, as Nation's report shows, they are quite tolerant of other groups.

    http://asiafoundation.org/resources/pdfs/T...portenglish.pdf

It's hard to know for sure.

    :)

:D ...the following below is the best analysis so far in this panel on the af survey :D:D

    ....

On one hand, every Thai I meet seems pretty passionate about the political divide, all over the country. On the other hand, Thai politicians (the vast majority, if not all) and power-mongers are absolute scum who are happy to enlarge any problem if it suits their personal ambitions.

On the 90% number; that's positive isn't it - they believe in reconcilliation then (?). Why oh why oh why don't these power mongers heed the will of the people - oh yeah because they're money crazed scumbags who have no interest in the average Joe or Somchai or Pornthip... Of course the 90% number is great for these power-mongers to play the nationalism card too...

At the most basic level, the country needs to get out of the cycle of coups and take the power away from the gernerals - if Abhisit can lead down that path then great.

  5. First of all, I will state that I'm a pretty loyal customer of Airasia, and I've had no problems at all with their service as well as their prices (I get what I pay for).

In my most recent trip, and even on many recent press releases, they boasted that according to Skytrax, they're now the world's best low cost airline.

"AirAsia has been named the world's best low-cost carrier by Skytrax, a Britain-based consultancy that rates commercial airlines..."

"We are very honoured to triumph over other low-cost carriers like Ryanair, easyJet and Southwest Airlines," he said.

    http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...&sec=nation

    :D:D:D:D:P airasia,

,,,,"you can bluff some of the people all the time,

all the people some of the time,

but not all the people all the time".

does this quotation from an ex-american president mean anything to you, airasia????????????????????? :):D:D

However, I checked the Skytrax website just now, and I can't seem to find any reference at all to Air Asia being the "best" low-cost airline in the world... not even an "indirect" statement which 'may be' interpreted to say that Air Asia is the "best low-cost" airline in the world.

If it's true that they are, am I missing something here??

If, on the other hand, it's a blatant lie, why has Skytrax not said anything?

    :D

  6. I have used Air Asia 3 times in the last 5 weeks from Chiang Rai and EVERY time i have had a problem, i like the other poster used Thai, even though i loath them, and got into BKK 5 hours early. Truth is you just cant trust A.A. and if you try to reason with the staff they are rude especially the guy in A.A.'s airport office.

Another recent complaint, i checked availability for a BKK flight a couple of weeks ago in the office at Big C, Chiang Rai, i was told no problem just turn up plenty of seats 1,480 bahts, same as their web site. turn up i did, seats available but they tried to charge me 4,780 baht, once again the staff did not care less, the guy said if i dont like it complain in BKK he didnt care.

:):D:D:D:D this is my third day waiting for a reply from airasia regarding a flight i never booked. it is also about a fare increased on this flight i never booked on line when in fact the day i am supposed to fly and the cost for this flight was much lower - i.e.november 2nd - is less than 70% full at the time of booking.

i mentioned my plight to a staff - including the blackout during my on line - but nothing came out of it.

worst still, my private data , i believe , has been tampered with and compromised when i did my on-line booking.

till now, no reply is forthcoming from the airline even though i was given a useless airasia support/ follow-up website address to do so by the staff.

it seems a troll or two is singing all airasia's praises in another tread and when questioned about his hundreds of flights with airasia , he backed out and claim the number of flights are not as important as airasia's quality of service.

he also - particularly one "britmaveric" , " a defender of "god-knows" - in the other tread, did not reply to questions posed to him by me and others, although he has posted well over 19,000 treads in this forum since 2003, november.

beware of false claims herein and beware of charlatans or worst still cons on this forum site.

banter, jokes,et.al are one thing here in this forum , but to blatantly lie on this forum is utterly banal especially when this forum has well over 90,000 subscribers worldwide to date !

simply put, i loathe dishonest cheats who can tamper with our on-line booking of an airticket for which we are charged to book on-line with our own effort. :D:D:D:P:P

  7. ^BKK - SIN, BKK - Phuket, BKK - Udon, BKK - CM, BKK - Phnom Penh, BKK - KL, BKK - Hong Kong, numbers are irrelevent but these are the routes. :)

    ????????????why are numbers suddenly irrelevant??????????

a short while ago, you advise me to talk to my credit card company. then you claim you have flown more than a hundred times with airasia without problems. who are you exactly??????

?????is it so hard to tell the truth in your previous claim on this tread????????????

remember, you have posted in this tread for quite a while now. are we to believe now you're into half-truths here and before??????

you have, since november 2003, 1900 odd postings , remember.

you have not flown with them to australia???

you are not a troll , are you?????

you are on their pay-roll, i assume????

besides hong kong , have you flown with them to other parts of china and other parts of malaysia besides kl?????

what about flights to india with airasia????

  8. I have booked a long haul flight for next month, the 10-pm Air Asia Flight out of Chaingrai

gets me into Bangkok at just the right time to check in ETC.

Anyone had any experience of this flight being Delayed, Cancelled

or any good reports about being on time ETC

I am only interested in this flight i know my other options

    ThaNKS

:) good luck, but don't count on it. be prepared to throw away your ticket and book on another airline. they are very unreliable and haughty. they still owe me an expalnation for a flight i never book for yesterday and at a higher price too. they promised to call but never did.

this is inspite of my having flown into singapore earlier this month from bangkok with airasia and having pre-booked a silmilar flight for november. since yesterday they don't bother to reply as promised and they have yet to explain why the flight alloted me was not the flight i booked for and they have not explained why when i booked on-line yesterday, my booking blacked out twice and i ended with a ticket price much higher than the one i booked for. besides my booking time was when the november flight was when the flight was 70% empty....... :D

worst still a helpful junior staff was unable to put me through their supervisor whom she claimed the latter refused to speak to me . worst still, she said the latter will call me yesterday and he never did till even now today. :D

many flights to australia have similarly been so delayed and no advance notice is given even though when we book on-line with them and have to pay for self booking and they have all our private phone numbers and data. :D

i also sincerely believe my private data with them have been compromised by their staff in their back-room at the on-line booking site. :D

beware and becareful......see other treads here on air asia on delayed flights and very poor follow up service besides their non-chalant attitudes once you have pre-booked a flight with them :D .

my flight details and number are provided in the airasia tread elsewhere. :D

worst still, the staff even bother to provide a hardly non-accesssible web-site address for me to file a complaint. yet another jeopardy is when you manage to access the hardly accessible website, you end up in a totally unrelated, incomprehensible chinese only website. :D

follow the airasia tread here and you know what i mean.

besides, i am not the only one with this problem having book both said flights out of bangkok. :P

others have problems booking their flights countries too besides thailand.

liek i said , if your flight goes beyond s.e.asia. be prepared to throw away airasia ticket and book another flight as suggested by someone else here on this tread. :P

  9. I :) booked air asia to Perth via KL only to find out later that I had to collect my luggage in KL and then go thru immigration and customs and back thru immigration and customs to check into the Perth sector. Same procedure on way home. I am nearly 80 and cannot carry anything nor can I stand for long. I had hoped to check my baggage straight thru both ways. I cannot conceive collecting my luggage and hauling it thru customs and immigration twice both ways. I can't get any information from Air Asia.

Anyone had any experience transiting KL to Australia??

:D ..had a simialr experience and thon-line booking is known to get manipulated to such an extent that you end up paying for a higher cost flight and your private data gets compromised :D .

just had a bad experience earlier this month with a repeated one for a pre-booked flight for early noivember with no reply whatsoever even though they claim they will rectify the problem. still waiting for their reply ..... :D

  10. Pattaya is quite busy for what is normally the slowest time of year.

I predict a decent high season if no political problems and the swine flu does not get worse. :)

Do you have any indications for your prediction ?

:D Yes, if things are so terrible, why is Pattaya full of bald, tattoed scumbags drinking from 6 AM - 6 AM in low, low season and many massage parlors and poontang bars are busy as well? It has been mostly dead until now. Things are getting better no matter how much some depressed Daniels amongst us wish it were not true! :D

..they drink from 6-6 to avoid a hangover which is worse than being drunk. that way they also don't give a dam_n what bernanke has to say or

not say.....who is bernanke anyway........????? :D

:) my complaint here arises from a hijack on-line booking and the allottment of a higher cost flight i never booked for.

worst still, i believe my private data have been hijacked and compomised.

are airasia supervisory staff so aloof that they can refuse to speak to their clients in distress??????

are they so aloof and such terrible liars that when they delegate their junior staff to say, they, the supervisors, will call back and they never do?????

is airaSIA so upperty that even their contact email address given me by their junior staff for complaints are inaccessible???????????

the full details of my complaint can be found in page two of this panel here presently.

i believe i am not alone with on-line and other problems with airasia.........

scroll through the complaints here and see where we are all coming from....... :D

I'm not sure how they measured it though and if you look at the winners in some of the other categories they seem equal perverse IMHO.

:) six hours ago, i booked and confirmed an airasia flight for nov 11,2009.

to my horror, the flight i booked for was supposed to be FD3507 and not FD3501.

the fare was supposed to total c.2,330 baht one way to singapore from bangkok - similar to a flight with same flight number i took the first week of this month from bangkok to singapore .

the flight was supposed to depart bangkok at 1845pm and was supposed to , i repeat , cost c.2,330.

in trying to make my payment on line, the page i was surfing blacked out twice.

when i retrieve the page to pay again, and clicked to pay for the flight i booked, the confirmation gave a different flight time and a totally different cost total.

i ended up with a total 2,800 odd baht airticket and a totally diffrent flight time.

when i immediately called the airaSIA OFFICE IN SINGAPORE AT PHONE NUMBER 63077688, THE HELPFUL STAFF could hardly help after listenning to me for an hour or so..

when i asked to speak the the supervisor, the latter, i was told do not speak to callers.

instead i was told he will call me later.

i asked for an internet address to air asia and was given this useless - [email protected]. -non-accessible website as the page could not be displayed.

the only displayable page from this website was all in chinese and it was nothing related to one to which i want to lodge a complaint.

    that was about 9pm.

it is now 11pm and i have not heard from the supervisor.

    can anyone please help??????

did someone sabotage the booking of my flight ?????

the flight is not even booked half full when i booked mine and the flight is some 50 days away.

my seat number is 08A and my confirmed flight number is kq2eaq.

this is not the first time i have flown airasia and in fact i just flew into singapore early this month.

by the way, i am retired and have no reason to take a 7am flight to singapore this november , meaning i have to start at 4am or so from where i stay outside bangkok to the airport when hardly transport service start that ealy in the morning.

more importantly, why did i end up paying much more and ended on a different flight and why did my booking on-line got hijacked twice when i tried to pay on-line.???????????????

orst still, during the black out period, i do not know now if someone has stolen my private data and use my private info to book other addtional flights on my account.

all lines to airasia except for the uk and australian offices are now closed and i have no way of checking on this mishaps right now.

can anyone help or have does anyone have a similar bad experience???????? :D

  13. Motorists scramble for Bt1,000 notes on Pathum Thani road

PATHUM THANI: -- Traffic snarled briefly hit a road here Monday morning when motorists parked their vehicles and rushed out to grab flying Bt1,000 bank notes.

But the traffic on the highway No 345 returned to normal soon because the motorists quickly disappeared with the notes.

Pol Lt Col Waroom Thairatthewin said the bank notes were spotted flying around the road at 9:30 am but they were quickly grabbed by motorists.

Waroom said it remain mysterious as to where the money came from. He urged the motorists to hand over the cash to police in case the owner later filed complaint with police.

He said the cash could be tens of thousands of baht.

    nationlogo.jpg

    -- The Nation 2009-09-14

hmm, hand over the cash in case the owner claims he lost it? i doubt this will happen.

    which part you doubt????

the police not handing back money to owner or..........?????

  14. I visited a hospital and my Thai partner was very upset because the doctor overcharged me on the doctors fee and then they over charged me on the cost of medicine. Almost everywhere you go in Thailand, as a farang, you will be over charged. Even a doctor, someone you would expect to have some class, disappoints.

I don't think you can respect someone and cheat them at the same time. I am sure some of you will claim otherwise, but I think you are just deluding yourselves.

So the big question is why is it like that here?

:) ......and what about farangs who cheat farangs after they think they have settled in thailand, through land deals, etc. etc??????? :D:D

  15. pace yourself and not pace yourself for your gf's sake. at the end of the day, since you say you are likely to do the opposite when pushed, then you you already have the nec essary wisdom to know yourself quite well already. follow your heart....not your gf's.

rightly said earlier by someone else here, your gf's intention is noble and warrant serious consideration.

  16. I am a frequent ish visitor to the British club. maybe once a month, and I know a few senior members and they are very worried about dropping numbers and the ageing membership. But really, why would you want to join in the first place? Ok, it has a pool and tennis courts, but there are numerous places that have courts and the vast vast majority of condo's have a pool.

The food is western should you be desperate, but again there are lots of places in town with western food. Same with the beer.

Then there's the price of membership. It is absurd!! You may as well join a country club with golf and better facilities. I can get the reduced fees and can easily afford it, but wouldn't consider it for a moment.

It seems to me that the vast majority of members are those who are harking back to the days of the Raj and do not particularly enjoy the Thai culture!! I wonder how many members can speak Thai?

There are other numerous clubs and societies for expats if they want to meet other westerners too.

sAre the days of the British Club numbered?

....the british club?????? they are still around??????? thought they went the way of the dinosaur in asia .............or will soon be on their way..........

yes, why not join the other clubs as mentioned here and try to pick up some thai culture and learn thai too.........

  17. drove around southeast asia and canada and usa without a hitch, without the thai international one too. rented a car in australia with the thai driving licence in sydney and was marked down as a tourist also like other reader here, though i am a tourist in australia for sure. in fact, was stop on highway in australia for licence check and when the traffic cop saw my thai driving licence, he was surprised if not impressed by the high quality of the card. his comment is one accolade for thailand and guess who who started this new card rolling out of thailand.
