  1. This does sound like an accident. Who would want to kill a 12 year old? The Thais aren't as safety conscious as farang countries so it is possible the window wasn't safe to open. I wish tourists would be strongly warned that there are many dangers here that they just take for granted at home so they need to have their wits about them at all times. Very sad for her so young.

Who would kill a 12 year old? How about a scum bag that raped her and then panicked and tried to cover it up. Many explanations possible, but I doubt anyone will ever know for sure what happened because life is cheap in Thailand, especially a foreign life. Speaks volumes and is perhaps part of why Thailand is such a mess today.

eerrr right, Thailand is a mess because a girl fell out the window . It happens everywhere, even USA. Have some respect for the deceased and take your hidden agenda elsewhere

    RIP young one

  2. Why anybody would want to live in Bangkok, is beyond me, but I guess enough people do.

All this, is great for tourism in the North. We get more and more people, in our bar, who stick around here, because they don't want to get caught in the Bangkok traffic jams, during this "Occupy Bangkok" time.

A lot of people, will be in the protest areas, others will leave town for a few days, to get away from it all, so I doubt, that traffic will be much worse, than it normally is, in Bangkok.

what a shallow view of BKK. You really think we are going to pack our bags and bus it up to your bar up north and "stick around there " because of Mondays shut down LOL

err thanks for the offer but...

  3. I have had the experience of overstaying in Thailand for about six months. It was not due to lack of personal diligence but to my passport expiring -- and hence my Thai residence visa since visas are only valid up to the passport's expiry date -- and to my embassy not providing me with a new one on account of a spurious judicial case against me in my home country which was subsequently dismissed in its totality . Upon getting my new passport I went to the Thai immigration and explained the case. They were sympathetic but indicated that their rules do not provide for my case and was told that the only way out was to exit Thailand and pay THB 20 K at the airport. They added I would have no problem in getting a visa on my return to Thailand. So I went to the airport, paid the sum, no questions asked, the processing went smoothly and quickly ( about ten mins. ), was out of Thailand for a month, returned and obtained a new one-year visa without any problem.

For those in this forum that are quick to blame the lawbreakers, please note : THERE ARE AT TIMES LEGITIMATE AND UNAVOIDABLE GROUNDS TO OVERSTAY , and by extension, to break laws. Legal systems have many loopholes which can either turn out to work positively or negatively depending on circumstances; the complexity increases when, as in my case, one has to deal with two legal systems that were not only not conceived to work in coordination but which furthermore intently ignored each other, with the affected person left in the middle to bear their disfunctions.

    "spurious judicial case"

yes but isnt this always the case? No body ever says "I couldn't get my passport renewed because I robbed the post office"

Even if you were legit laugh.png why post it? your case is so remote its not worth the effort

  4. I would not miss the immature drunks. Not drinking, bars, or getting wasted. Has nothing to do with age.

Something about Thailand makes people not afraid to act idiotic and stupid. Could be rose colored glasses, getting laid, or just the type who gravitates here. I'm not sure exactly what is is. But you get a lot of grown men acting kind of immature and childish in bars and other such locations here, that would have a more macho and tough vibe in the US.

Tension is gone. Men act child like when they are happy, its a natural reaction and men acting like children can be misinterpreted as idiotic

  5. heard $50,000 and 5 years of having a 1 year visa with extensions to get cambodian citizenship

There are a few westerners i know in shv that have brought condos. Phnom Phen is EXTREMELY over priced.

I think you mean expensive? they cant be overpriced unless you have some information regarding a property bubble. I mean real info through due diligence.

Condos in cambo have always been expensive and as mentioned already there aren't that many available.
