You apply for a 90 day non-o in the US, then when back in Thailand apply for extension based on marriage (earliest 45 days before expiryof the visa). You need the documents, bank letter and statement, photos from you and wife taken at your home, and a witness (neighbour). During the one month "under consideration" period the immigration officer will visit your house. All of this can only be done when in Thailand. Also note there is no marriage visa, only an extension of stay based on marriage.

Thanks. When you say I need the bank letter, you mean for the visa application in the US or the extension application while in Thailand, or both? Because the previous poster said the bank letter is only needed for extension and I can initially get the Non-O in the US with only a bank statement as far as financial paperwork goes.

  2. I've got my 400K in Thai bank but it still needs to season for 7 more weeks before I can apply for a marriage visa, and I need to go to the US for 2-3 months starting end of this month. Been here as a tourist last 5 months so I'd rather not have to come back so soon on another 30-day visa exempt and need to show my return airline proof of onward transit and then maybe also get an eyebrow raise from IO at Swampy.

So my hope was to return to Thailand with a marriage visa from the embassy in New York, but everything I found in an online search is about applying for this visa when the applicant is already in Thailand. For one thing, getting the bank paperwork seems like needs to be done in person on the same day as application. Still I'm wondering if it's possible to apply for a marriage visa through an embassy outside Thailand? Maybe can be done with wife as power of attorney to get the bank paperwork in Thailand then email it over to submit in online application through the embassy? I logged into Thailand's e-visa website and it does appear possible to apply for a Non-Imm O through it, although even with a TR visa that process usually brings unwelcome surprises.

That's what I was going to suggest.

With a rental agreement, copy owners house book and signed identify card thinking they might do the TM30 or skip that..

Any reason for leaving it to last couple of days.

Yup I have the rental agreement and signed house book and ID card from landlady. It's obvious on her ID that she's elderly so I doubt the IO will be bothered about me doing it myself. Re leaving it to last couple days, having extended on TR visas several times in the past I had assumed the requirements were the same for extending on visa-exempt. In all my years in Thailand I've never been asked to show a TM.30 for anything, hoping that luck continues tomorrow. I'll report back here how it goes.

Not  being a protected species and no previous TM30"s I wonder if you will cop a fine at Chaeng Wattana.

I'll try at Laksi first with no TM.30, read a bit more and several poster said they weren't asked for TM.30 at Laksi if arriving to Thailand by air as I did. If Laksi needs it then not a big deal to pay 800B fine at CW, better than paying that much to a hotel I don't just to get a TM.30. My landlady is a sweet old Thai woman, probably never heard of TM.30 and would probably find it confusing especially using the online portal. Better to not bother her.

  5. I'm in Thailand on a 30-day visa-exempt stamp after doing a border hop to Laos last month (before that I was here on a TR visa + extension).

I need to extend once more so I can remain legal here until my booked flight back to the US in mid Feb.

Already researched relevant posts here but still have a couple of questions so I know my ducks are in a row...

First, I need to apply for the extension at LakSi immigration IT square, correct? (Last time I got the extension at Chaeng Wattana but reading info posted here Dec 2023 that if extending on a visa-exempt stamp rather than a visa, it needs to be done at LakSi.)

Second, when extending last time at Chaeng Wattana I was not asked to show TM.30, but recent posts here say it is highly likely required at LakSi.

Regarding TM.30, I've never gotten one of these in my life (lived here permanently 2011-22 and been visiting on TR visas last couple years). My wife and I rent a condo in Bangkok and I am listed as tenant on the lease agreement, and we do have copy of landlord's ID card and her house ownership paperwork. So this makes me a "possessor" which should enable me to obtain the TM.30 on my own at Chaeng Wattana, correct?

Plan is to scoot up to Chaeng Wattana, get the TM.30 in person, then over to LakSi to apply for the extension. I'll be applying only 2 days before my current stay expires so if anyone sees any holes in this plan, please let me know Any help much appreciated.

  6. Hoping to confirm that I'm correct in what I'm tentatively planning here.

I'm here in Thailand on a single-entry TR visa and am currently nearing the end of a 30-day extension. So, planning on going up to Vientiane before my extension expires on Dec 20. Up there, I intend to apply for a new TR visa *or* re-enter Thailand on a 30-day exempt entry.

My goal is another 60-90 days in Thailand. And, having recently gotten married, I've only recently heard about the 60-day extension based on marriage and so did not deploy that when extending my current visa last month.

My question is, can I deploy that 60-day extension based on marriage on top of the 30-day visa-exempt entry (aka re-entry) that I'm considering? If so, I'll do that. If not, I'll need to try for another 60-day TR visa up in Vientiane. Thanks for any help.

  7. For visas, you're looking at either the new special tourist visa (STV) or the regular old single entry tourist visa (SETV). If you want to stay in the country longer than 90 days, you will need to get the STV.

Quarantine period is 14 days. There's been talk of making it 10 days but for now it's still 14 days.

You can only stay at approved ASQ hotels. You cannot stay at any hotel you want. The prices for ASQ hotels are 30K baht and up.

You will need to do multiple Covid tests and you will still need to do the 14 day quarantine. Doesn't matter if first test is negative.

  8. A lot of the best right off the beaches is at national park islands like Ko Surin, Similans, Ko Haa, Ko Rok, etc., but of those, I think it's only still possible to stay overnight on Ko Surin, normally in a tent. Ko Lipe used to be great; all the boats killed most of the coral off the main beaches but there's still decent snorkeling right off the north coast, west of Sunset Beach, near little coves like the one housing Bila Beach Bungalows. Have to watch out for boats though; some snorkelers have been hit off Lipe.

  9. Could be misreported b/c The Nation is an awful news outlet. But that is some ridiculous fear mongering if he's really only talking about the small number of STV tourists who have to get tested 3 times, do 2 weeks in quarantine AND come from countries where covid has been contained. Thousands of Thais and expats have already returned from countries that are being ravaged by covid and they haven't "opened a Pandora's box," so why would a small number of tourists who are being put through the exact same covid prevention measures open one?

Many have criticized the tourism ministry for providing stimulus measures and promotions for Thais but ignoring the potential of the foreigners living in Thailand.

It's not only that they're ignoring expats / foreigners. By doing that and trying to get Thais to travel, they're ignoring all of the businesses and destinations that rely mainly on foreign tourists (and expats). Of course there is overlap but a lot of businesses cater specifically to Thai travelers, while others cater specifically to foreigners. The latter are being left out in the cold.

  11. Still no announcement, but rumor has it that those tourists wanting to stay longer will need a note from their embassy stating that they can't get a flight... In your case it sounds like you'd be able to get that. Hopefully they'll at least allow for another 30 day extension without a note from embassy. I'd be surprised if they don't at least allow people to stay one more month. In that case, the extension would start from 31st July and not the date you apply.

Nothing racist about this.  If it was a white foreigner on 881 days overstay he would have been reported as well.
Don't use the racist card every time a black man get arrested, or else we will end up as America.

“End up as America.” Right, America is having protests because people are “using the race card.” Can’t imagine it has something to do with the centuries of kidnapping millions of Africans as slaves and then the structural racism that has continued to this day. No, must be only “the race card.” Similar to playing Go Fish, really, except it’s about race! ????

Yes, of course I have. Then that mean it´s a result out of many´s behaviour. Profiling is what the police do as one tool to prevent more crimes. Just sad that there is so many bad apples in that bunch so profiling is needed. It doesn´t come from nowhere, right They didn´t make up the statistics just for fun, right?

It’s basic math. If police are racially profiling and pull over and search 5x as many black people as white people (which they do in Thailand and elsewhere), and both black and white people are using/selling drugs at the same rate (which has been shown time and again), then police will find 5x more black drug users/dealers than white drug users/dealers. Yet to someone who does not see things beyond the surface, like you, this discrepancy equates to “facts” showing that black people have more “bad apples” than white or Asian people. That is wrong wrong and extremely ignorant / narrow-minded.

Your statement that “there are so many bad apples in that bunch” is again a glaring indication of how you see the world through a lens of racial prejudice. And that is saying nothing of the colonialism and slavery in the past that is still, right now, contributing to your prejudicial viewpoint in all sorts of ways.
