No need to elaborate. I do not think and I do not say all. What I say is that intelligence and statistic tells a clear picture. In my world that´s called facts.

What are your "facts"? That more black people have been arrested for drugs than white people? Ever stop and think that this is not because more black people are abusing drugs, but that more black people are arrested for it because of racial profiling and prejudice? The exact same type of prejudice, in fact, that you yourself displayed in your "ever been to Sukhumvit?" statement.

  2. 2 minutes ago, Matzzon said:

Yep, and there is a reason for that. You can thank all your friends in Sukhumvit for that. ????

And there it is folks: The blatant admission of prejudice. I knew it wouldn't take long to get it out of him. It was stitched into his words from the start. The wild thing is he still doesn't see it within himself.

Sure there are some Africans who sell drugs in Bangkok. There's also a huge Russian criminal presence in Pattaya. There are also a lot of caucasian expats who have been caught selling drugs in Thailand in recent years. There was a caucasian expat who shot his way out of a police station and was tracked down and killed at the Cambodian border. There was a caucasian who was caught running a drug dealing empire out of Ko Phangan. There was a caucasian who murdered an Indian-British man in front of his family on Phuket and was allowed to walk free. Studies in US, UK and other countries have proven that dark-skinned people are at least 5x more likely to be arrested by police for drug using / dealing even though the rates for those crimes between dark-skinned and white-skinned people are the same. You think it's any different here in Thailand?

One thing is for sure: what YOU just showed is that you believe black skin implies criminal behavior. Care to elaborate on that?

No, it doesn't, that's just how you're choosing to interpret it.

The wording of the article made it pretty clear. Beyond that, it's safe to assume he was treated differently because he's black. It's safe to assume that because it's common knowledge, to anyone paying attention, that black people are treated very differently than whites or other Asians in Thailand. There are endless accounts of dark-skinned expats being hassled (or worse) for no reason, from dark-skinned English teachers to tourists to half-Thai / half-Africans and on and on.

I have no closed mind. Very open, and I treat everyone with the same medicine. Most people knows that I hate overstayers in this forum. Now you do that too. ????

That´s why I am happy he got reported and sent to a place where he belongs.

Point is that everyone is not treated with the same medicine, are they? As the account by member freesudani as well as the accounts of the people interviewed in the article I shared as well as the accounts of numerous black expats in Thailand going back many years, people here are not treated with the same medicine at all. Not by you, not by the Thai media, and not by Thai authorities. That's the whole point.

???????????? Just quit, you making me laugh to death. Now it´s confirmed. You do believe all in the news too, or you might just select what´s inside your own interest and concerns your life.

Naw, I'm enjoying popping holes in your bubble of ignorance.

Would you believe that I actually know black expats in Thailand and have heard their first-hand stories of racial profiling and racism in Thailand, first hand? Amazing, I know...

So, we shall only read his posts??? Is he the oracle of knowledge? ????????

Or maybe, it´s just you that sees him as that. I think yu do believe everything you hear and read. That´s sad.

By the way, everybody knows that there are no such thing as a free Sudani.

Who said to only read his/her posts? I suggested you pay attention to those posts because it's (apparently) the only account from a dark-skinned expat in this thread. But hey if you want to climb right back into the hole that is your closed minded beliefs, be my guest.

He was not reported because he had black skin. He was reported for suspicious behavior.

Sitting in a bar. Terribly suspicious. As a white expat, I never sit in a bar. Whenever I do, some locals report me as "suspicious" and the police surround me. It's so tedious.

Seriously, before you move on, at least read the posts in this thread by member freesudani. Also might want to check out these stories of (non-criminal) black people in Thailand:

I don't need to read it again; as I said before farang have been arrested for doing nothing wrong other than being reported by locals for acting suspiciously. If farang and the African person in the article were arrested and treated the same where is the racism?

You could say that many Thai's are racist / xenophobic to all non-Thais which would be a reasonable comment but to claim this article is an example of racism because the guy is Black is nonsense.

Right, black expats and white expats are treated exactly the same in Thailand. Nothing to see here...

(Seriously, just read the posts in this thread by member freesudani. Just read them.)

As a dark skinned person who lives in Bangkok for the past year i have to agree with you , i always carry around my passport with me coz the police here is always on the look out for dark skinned people , i cant remember the number of times i was stopped searched and asked for documentations ,  its kinda the norm , when motorbike of police officer pass by me as im walking most of the time they immediately stop  for no other reason other than they saw a black man.

Right. Of the dark-skinned expat friends that I have, none are criminals, but they all get treated like that in Thailand. And you listen to some of these other white expats and they don't believe that dark-skinned expats are treated differently. They're blind to the truth. Or they assume that dark-skinned people *deserve* to be treated differently, as if they're more likely to be criminals. Sure, there are some African people in Thailand doing criminal activity, but there are also plenty of Caucasian expats doing the same. On overstay. Doing / selling drugs. Even murdering people and getting away with it like that Norwegian who choked an Indian-Brit to death on Phuket and was allowed to leave the police station and the country. Think he would have been allowed to do that if he were a Nigerian or even an African-American???

Has nothing to do if it is a black overstayer or a caucasian. It´s quite simple, a person that overstay mostly do that for the lack of money or that he is already into criminal activities.

I'm sure if you look at whatever you wrote in threads about Caucasian expats getting busted on overstay, you'd be talking about them in the exact same way and implying they're involved in other criminal activity. ????

I guess you do not read the news very often. You probably missed all the reading about caucasian people that have been found on overstay, and also been that after reports because they are looking suspicious. It´s easy for a person with a little bit knowledge and experience to see if someone is looking like they are hiding from something.

I read the news constantly. One difference here is that you and others, including the writer of the article, are implying that this African must be doing something else illegal.

Second difference is that Thai police and many Thai people in general, not to mention many Caucasian expats like yourself, racially profile dark-skinned people in this country all the time. If you think there's equality in the way that a Caucasian expat and a black expat are treated, whether they're on overstay or not, then you are blind to the truth.

If you want to throw out reasons for that profiling, you might want to tread lightly. I've come across MANY Caucasian expat criminals in Thailand who fly under the radar simply because they're Caucasian.

Maybe it was also quite open that he dealt with other criminal things that is widely known in the circles named. So, he didn´t do a thing?

You just shot your own argument in the foot. There is no indication that he did anything illegal other than being on overstay. If there was, the immigration police would have loved to share it with the public. But here you are implying that he's a criminal, beyond simply being an overstayer. Would you imply that if he were a white Englishman?

  13. Flying domestically I really don't care if it's Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang. Yeah I'd rather take the Airport Link than the A1 bus in and out of the city, but both are easy enough. And soon Don Mueang will have its own Airport Link. Don Mueang's domestic terminal is fine, it's just the international terminal that's been a complete <deleted> shoot (pre-pandemic anyway).

Come on now! Tell us what is racist? Is not just that new new is telling about the man and who it is? Where does it stand that the local got intimidated?

Is it racist to report a suspicious thing? Really??? I would love to have your fantasy, but I would hate to believe it so blindly as you do.

What was so suspicious exactly? Was the guy dealing drugs? (article didn't say he was). Was he pimping prostitutes? (again, doesn't appear so). Was he doing something else illegal? If he was, immigration police would have plastered it all over the news, that's for sure.

Or maybe what's really suspicious is that he was black and sitting in a bar? Do you think the "informer" would have contacted the police if the guy was a Caucasian footballer from Germany or England, simply out at a bar enjoying himself? It's called racial profiling.

Not saying the guy didn't deserve what he got for overstaying. But if he were a Caucasian, he would have probably gone undetected. And if he were Caucasian, (some of) you racist people and the Thai who wrote that article would not have implied he was doing other illegal stuff.

  15. Not surprised to see a UK rag make it sound like air bridges will open whenever the Brits CHOOSE which countries they want on it. Typical superiority complex.

Reality check: Countries like Thailand and Vietnam won't be allowing Brit or American or probably even European tourists in until the Thais and Vietnamese have deemed those countries to be at a low enough risk. That is obviously not the case right now.

Is there a news link reporting this ban on foreigners riding buses?

    Here's one: https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2020/06/11/bus-operator-confirms-ban-on-foreign-travelers-in-pandemic/

Actually I called them myself before that was published and they told me foreigners were banned. But that was earlier this month. Couple of more recent reports have said the ban was lifted June 15. And actually I know a farang who took a govt. bus before June 15.
