  1. Yes I can believe it.

How can you expect a government that acts like school children in a playground to pass a law preventing blatant racism?

No blacks no dogs no Irish, that was over 50 years ago in UK. Thankfully we've moved on. Thailand has a long way to go but it won't be in my lifetime....

  2. you think a single member of the entire cast of Hangover II had a work permit?

Yes!! All of them in fact.

I know for sure for film makers and entertainers everybody needs a work permit.

My buddy is a tour manager for a big performer and he shudders at the paperwork and bureaucracy whenever the perform in Bangkok.

I used to DJ in Thailand, never had a work permit but there would be raids from time to time and 'collections' made...

  3. I wouldn't call myself wrinkly.

Your assumptions amuse me. You really are a lot of sad bastards. This happened 20 years ago when my wife was 18.

We are 3 years apart in age. She's not a whore, never has been. It's just the way things are done in Thailand sometimes.

She probably did want me for financial security initially but I know we love each other.

A friend of our family got married today. He's 28, she's 19. Both Thai. He MET her A WEEK AGO! He paid 100,000 sin sod.

    Was it love?

Nopes, it's blackmail. Either marry or go prison for rape. Happened to someone i knew few months back, he pretended to be rich and single, slept with a young lass and next day, her parents appear and demanded marriage now that their daughter is "damaged". It became police case cos the guy is married with a son and on top on that, have only thb500 in his name. End up taking a loan from sharks to pay the girl and police. THB50,000 for the girl, THB50,000 for the parents and another THB100,000 for the police to drop the rape charge.

Maybe with your friend this was the case but I can assure it wasn't here. Lovely wedding, everyone happy no police.

I do know what you're saying though, it's happened many times ...

  4. My Barclays would only send it to my UK address and I got a friend to bring it out with her who I met in Bangkok.

I wouldn't trust the postman in my town anyway. I've never received anything I've sent to myself from UK. The only letters that make it to my door are bills from ToT....... TiT!!!

  5. I don't understand TrueVision.

In Udon Thani I normally buy 6 months packet Gold at a time as I have my own box and dish

Last time my wife went there to buy 6 months they told her we don't sell packet Gold anymore....:boring:

    Now I have nothing.

    I read books instead...:coffee1:

  6. My wife married a local guy when she was 18 years old. She did it for the money, to help her family. The sin sod was 40,000 baht.

And many years later, she discovered Farangs, a never ending stream of income, smart girl. :)

And a second lot of sin sod, no doubt. ;)

I'm sure she married some young handsome Thai guy for the money and not love , then a few years later she married some wrinkly old Farang for love not money ! B)

    Gotta laugh sometimes. :D

Afraid not. No sin sod from me

  8. If it was between 2 Thais I would say there were a chance, but with a farang I would say no chance.

My wife married a local guy when she was 18 years old. She did it for the money, to help her family. The sin sod was 40,000 baht.

She ran away from him whenever he advanced towards her, she was scared.

To cut a long story short the guy complained and the marriage ended but most of the 40,000 was spent so my wife's dad had to give up some land.

Maybe there was some loss of face somewhere along the line but Papa didn't hold it against her. Now, 20 years on they all laugh about it... :cheesy:

I suppose when it's hard cash it burns a hole in many peoples pockets

  9. 350 baht for 2 hours in Health Land on Sathorn Road between Chong Nonsi and Surasak sky train stations for me is the best value in town.

I've never had a bad massage there and all the girls seem to be of a certain build... short, stocky and strong.

It's a huge place and full of Thai's, Chinese and Japanese customers but seems you'll nearly always have to wait, which I think is a good sign :jap:

  10. I find it amazing that the most important and interesting point of this story hasn't been mentioned yet.

If somebody wants to invest his hard earned money into property in order to generate rental income why not do it in a country where you can actually own the property legally, e.g. in your home country ? Please don't get me wrong, I don't want to condone or excuse the evil behavior of this woman and her helpers in any way. But would you not agree that the fact to try and circumvent existing laws by some semi-legal constructions (forming a Thai company, 30 year lease etc.) makes one vulnerable for exactly these kind of rip-off ? Moreover, would you not agree that such a situation makes some shady Thai characters actually believing that they are entitled to 'defend the Thai law' and part the foreigner from his illegal investments ?

The first lesson any foreigner who wants to live in Thailand in relative peace and ease of mind should learn is to never invest into something you can't legally own. Leave your money where it is safe and always only send exactly that much as you really need.

Or as is said time and time again... never invest what you cannot walk away from....

  11. cheers well done jolly good show here here

Its totally absurd. can anyone imagine a convention ship full of business salesmen packing into a ragtag convoy of delapidated ripoff tuk tuks heading off to the convention venue for a dinner and entertainment......each vehicle seperately negotiated .....................

    idiots all

They're not Tuk-Tuks. They are not even a symbol of Thailand. They're like Bedford Rascal vans that are really hard to get in and out of if you're old or a bit large.

They are not worth a w***!

  12. I don't get it, 2.9 kilos. Taking it out of the Country. Surely this stuff is easily made in make shift Labs all over the world.

    jb1

She was in transit from Etiopia to Bali

It does seem weird that someone would produce crystal meth in Ethiopia to be taken to Bali (where they give you the death sentence) via Thailand.

Som nam na, there is enough warning all over the world as to what happens if you're caught

  13. After being in and out of Thailand for 23 years over time I've always heard pr1cks talking about I know this big man and I could make a call and get someone killed for a few baht.

    BUT

Thinking about it a few times I always thought to myself if you actually carried out this threat you'd always wind up caught for your actions.

The fantastic Royal Thai Police must really have some persuasive actions with their suspects because who ever gets "interrogated" always seems to squeal.

In cases like this I'm glad they do. It's despicable. Money really is the root of all evil. Ordering the killing of a business partner almost certainly was a money issue. It could have been something else like a woman but I very much doubt it. If it's true and it was ordered then the perpetrators deserve to rot.

Farangs really have to be careful in Thailand. Foreigners don't carry much weight and if they come a cropper it's always big news. I think it's because it's ingrained into Thais from a young age that they are above all other nationalities. Kind of like Thailand being the centre of the earth and not much else goes on around it. I do think though that things will change eventually. The internet has opened many peoples eyes as we're seeing now in the middle east.

Oh my Buddha I am ranting on... time to go to bed....:sleepy:

  14. 3 years ago I bought a cable box. I was recommended to buy one rather than rent.

Ever since I've always had a problem paying my bill or ordering another months viewing.

I use Packet Gold because I like to watch football.

I can't buy it in my home town because the guy in the True Visions shop... yes the TRUE VISIONS SHOP doesn't know how to sell me a months viewing.

I drive to Udon Thani to the main True Visions shop and purchase 6 months at a time to save me going there every month.

I'm away at the moment so my wife took the 2 hour bus ride to get there today only to be told....

"We're not doing that anymore, promotion finished. You can not buy packet gold or platinum anymore. If you want gold or platinum you have to rent a box from us!"

What am I supposed to do with the box they already sold me? It's a disgrace.

Has anyone else encountered these problems? I bought a dish and a box which works perfectly but they want to come to my house and install a new one that I have to rent!!

TiT I suppose.... it does baffle me though.....
