  1. I didn't pick up from the OP how much was raised on the remortgage and where that had gone ?

Half of the 120,000 remorgage went on doing the house up had to do it myself with brother but it was no professional and the credit crunch then kicked in and lost all profits.

Then rented house whle in Thailand so that was more spent about 20 grand so its all went.

So sold the house to repay remortgage.

came out with 25 grand and brother owns half he had 25 grand too now got a house with borroed money from family they only lend it.

I can tell you ther eare not may jobs for unskiled and really hard finding any help with career training but I might have TESOL help waiting for reply from Government body to see if Ican get funding help.

However I do not know if Iahve what it takes to teach foreigners English.

    Goes quick.

    Thanks for all advice

I wish you luck mate but I'd forget about teaching if I were you..

  2. I need to ask a question for my friend

He's staying in LOS on a tourist visa in Udon Thani

He originally got a 60 day visa from his home country, then extended it at Udon immigration for 30 more days

Now he wants to stay longer. Can he travel to Laos, stay overnight and get another 60 days from the Thai embassy there?

The reason I ask is when I last traveled on a tourist visa and came in and out a few times the immigration officer was counting the days I'd stayed in the kingdom.

Is it true if you stay 90 days here then you have to leave for 90 days before you can return?

    Thanks for your help

  3. As long as the visa is valid, every time you travel to Thailand you will get permission to stay 90 days. By exiting and returning just before the visa expires you can get almost 15 months out of it.

If you don't want to leave after 90 days, you can get a 1 year extension of stay from immigration as you are used to. Just visit immirgation with all the paperwork during the last 30 days of any permission to stay of 90 days. You don't have to wait till the visa expires.

    Thanks Mario

    A weight off my mind...

  4. Hello

I had a yearly non O visa based on supporting my Thai spouse but had to travel to the UK and forgot to purchase an exit visa so now it is void and was valid until December.

So, whilst in London I purchased a Non -Immigrant O multiple entry visa for £100.

On the visa it says date of issue 27th Aug 2010 and enter before 26th Aug 2011.

Can anyone tell me if I have purchased a 1 year multiple entry visa? When do I have to "go out and come back?" Is it every 90 days or 60 days?

    Thanks

It's out of order man :redcard1:

  6. Hello

I live in a small town north east of Udon Thani and I agree with you that all the things you list are pretty much the same.

The reason I think I find life cheaper up here is that I built my own house and bought the land for peanuts (although it's essentially my wife's land) and the temptation to go out to bars just isn't there.

I used to live in Koh Samui and would be out everyday and every night. I rented down there and it was about 15,000 baht per month and electricity and water were far more expensive.

My town has 2 or 3 "farang bars" and I maybe frequent them once or twice a month, that is what I think makes life cheaper.

We tend to live off the land a lot here too; fruits, vegetables and a bit of fishing are all home grown and the wife is a great cook.. lucky me....:D

  7. Has it ever crossed the minds of the cretins at TAT to ask themselves why so many millions of Thais choose to live in another country?

Promote Thailand? 55555555555555555555 Not even to Lance Corporal, Somjai.

I think I can honestly presume people emmigrate to a different country for various , differing reasons , not least of all , a better standard of living and life-style . Why on earth would you ask them to try to encourage neighbours , friends etc to visit thier old country when they have most likely already related the downside of said country ?

For example : how many brits that post on this forum could convince anyone to visit "Jolly-Old-England' , when all they have to offer in a steady stream , is vitriolic clap-trap .

The most logical idea as posted earlier in this thread , invite the expats in THIS COUNTRY to do the advertising in the country they left , who else could extol the virtues of change so eloquently in a video ?

How about , people who make a decition on the streng of an expat video to visit Thailand , be met at the airport by the expat and taken to thier accomodation , no hastles either end .

PROMOTION not blither and blather !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They couldn't ask foreigners to promote their country. That would be a loss of face to them.

I think Thais living abroad still love Thailand. It's in their blood. Not a bad word can be said. They're taught to love Thai from a very early age.

Why do they need all this promotion anyway? Judging by the report all the figures are up....

  8. Its the way expat life is. At first when you come to a new country you think it is fantastic and brag about the new country to all your friends back home and tell them it is much better than the old country and the old country has so many wrong and bad things. After some time it changes and you tend to complain a lot about people and things in the new country and you tend to think they could do it a lot better in the old country. It is only a part of the proces of settling in a new country. Every country have their specific problems, it is nothing special for Thailand. :)

This is like the 3 stages that many expats go through.

    I am between stage 2 and 3.

Ist stage is everything is wonderful and then it slowly turns into everything is shit. Then, when you've been through that you tend to think everything is in fact OK

I used to get angry about things like drivers being lazy with their indicators (this is just an example, there are many) but they're not lazy, they don't KNOW about them because you can buy a license for 500 baht so is it their fault they don't know what they're for? I am between stage 2 and 3. I curse under my breath and then think to myself "Hey, this is Thailand and things are different, get over it" And that is the truth. I love Thailand for what it is. Who am I to complain? When in Rome..... :jap:

  9. The joke is on the people that purchase the ripoff products. For example;

    - "Billabong" shirt won't last long, if it's made from cotton not up to the manufacturer's specs.

    - The perfumes and colognes, think again. How do you know if the products aren't made with banned carcinogens? It's not as if you are going to be able to sue the factory once you grow that tumour.

    - Do you want to feel fat? Then for sure buy the copy shirts and pants as they shrink a size or two after a wash.

    - Do you ever wonder how fleas or bed bugs or lice got into the house? Consider how these products get to market. If you only knew.

I honestly make an effort to avoid these rip off copies. It's not because I am ethical or moral. Rather I want my boxers to not fall down when I need them most, and because I don't need a shirt ripping in a meeting. The rip off clothes are so <deleted> obvious on some people because of the poor fit that you can't help laughing sometimes.

Some T's are actually really good quality. In the UK they are £90.00!!!! In MBK...180 baht. I know. I fill a bag up every time I go back... I guess all good things come to an end...

  10. I thought the maximum you can draw out from a Thai bank is 50,000 per day

In the Uk it's even less, 300-400 pounds

On average they were getting 22,750 baht per transaction, this would take around 2 weeks.... something stinks of poo poo :whistling:

20,000 Baht is the usual limit per day irrespective of transactions unless you have made other arrangements. If it is an offshore bank who knows? Usually about USD500-1,000 depending what you tell your bank.

You can actually upgrade your daily limit to anything and can do this at an atm machine. It will ask you for your passport number and then what limit you want to raise the limit to. I can currently withdraw upto 200,000 in 1 day

    can I have a loan then?

I have noted now that the thieves transferred the money rather than withdrawing it.

I know for a fact that you can transfer up to 1000,000 baht per day if you make that arrangement

This all makes sense now and who would be so stupid (greedy) to transfer to friends bank accounts?

Don't they realise that it's very easy to see where money is being transferred? DUH

  11. I would suggest a good set of cutlery. You can buy it here but it's really expensive if it doesn't bend when you put any pressure on it!

Basically, anything of decent quality is more expensive here.

I've learned over the years that there's not much to bring back home from Thailand except food.

Nothing lasts more than 3 months. Even T-shirts are cheaper in UK, unless you're buying copies of high end stuff....
