  1. One thing Truevisions have failed to mention in all their information is what about the 15,000 I had to pay for my PVR four years ago? I feel I should get a partial refund at least however I'm glad that I won't be owning the HD Plus box as that means truevisions will remain resposible for it continuing working.

I had the old PVR also. The True technician said the old one can be used at another TV and connection point in the house with a basic package like True Knowledge.

With the new PVR, has anyone noticed the skip ahead 30 seconds button goes back to the last stopping point? It takes me back to where I last pressed skip, or to the beginning of the program. I can first press fast forward, then use the skip button and it skips ahead 30 seconds. Font is small on screen. I can't see episode numbers on my PVR menu. I don't know what episode I'm watching!

    Thanks everyone!

  2. Larry King had some great shows. For example if there was a murder gripping the nation he would have commentators, some believing in guilt some in innocence. The murder of Chandra Levy was one case. Everyone believed Gary Condit did it. Scott Peterson was another one. Back then people wouldn't get on a forum to discuss it, they would turn on Larry King. It was like a forum in a way. Loved those shows! Let me give you an idea of how it was. If the redshirts and yellowshirts were battling in the streets and you could turn on a TV show with some excellent commentators arguing it out, giving you the latest info, and answering callers, that's how exciting Larry King was. :w00t:

  3. They are battling for Thaksin's Bt76 Bn. Usually in the past rebellions have started with young people at universities. Now we see older folks from the provinces. Why didn't the younger folks turn out. Add to that workers in BKK like motorcycle men and drivers. Another thing that's different, in the past there wasn't live footage for all to see. In the past people disappeared in confrontations and families never knew what happened to them. This time, it's on film, to be analyzed. That's why there are no fatalities. It isn't fair for a few thousand people to gather and demand elections. If that worked we would have elections every few months as groups of one opinion or another gathered and demanded elections. No can do! When I arrived in Thailand in the 80's if something happened you would just read about it the next day in the newspaper. I have to admire the news people on the scene reporting all day long for Thai TV channels.

  4. The headline should be updated " The reds had recaptured the Thaicom"...The reds had gained so much momentum , I think abhisit time is near..He has insubordination from the military officials... Who is the commander in chief in Thailand ? (for sure its not abhisit)....

He doesn't have insubordination. The military was ordered not to use force. But now the ante is upped and they will start to use force. Can't wait til they start arresting those leaders! :)

  5. This is just a chat about jeans. Should you buy tight jeans, and will they stretch out in the wash, etc. The OP's 'fan' complained he bought his too tight, and he would be more comfortable with one size bigger, so he was wondering what size other people get. The last comment is that you should not wash them after every wearing, because wearing the jeans stretches them out nicely and washing them just brings them back to how they were when you bought them. In other words, buy your jeans tight-fitting, then don't wash them. They agree Levi's 593 is a good style.

What did you think this was about?

  6. I wish I were in Bangkok and could check it out myself, but I am not and hope you don’t my my asking some basic questions.

    1. Parking. Is it in the same building, on a subterranean floor? It would seem not, as apparently you entered the building from the outside after parking your car. How long is the walk from the car park to the building?

    2. Arrival by public transport. What public transports go to the immigration office in soi 7? Obviously, taxi and motorcycle taxi. Is there also a bus or minibus? Where would a taxi drop you off, at the East entrance, or can it drop you off at the South entrance?

Having travelled with your own car you may not know the answer to the second question so if anyone else does, kindly post it here.

    Maestro

The parking building is a separate above ground building connected by walkways. No underground floors. The walk from carpark to bldg is short. The taxis are at the east entrance only, seems like. Any entrance is fine, it gets you into the big atrium and you go from there. I think you go by bus from downtown to the Department of Consular Affairs on Chaeng Wattana Road (bldg A) and take a shuttle to bldg B.

I went at 10:00 am today, Monday, and it was great. I drove myself and parked in section 2D, then walked right across the walkway into the building. This is the west entrance. The lady guard kindly showed me where immigration is, because otherwise I would be lost. The building is like a huge airport or a futuristic space ship. And I have no sense of direction!

Hours are 8:30 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 4:30. There is a sign for the shuttle bus as follows: the red line runs from 6:30 to 20:00 and goes from Chaeng Wattana, to Bldg A, to the Convention Center, and to Bldg B. The blue line runs from 11:30 to 13:00 and goes from CAT canteen, to post office canteen, to Bldg B. Not only is Bldg B home to immigration, it also houses the Ministry of Information and Commercial Technology, the Office of the Election Commission, The Dept of Marine and Coastal Resources, The National Health Security Office, The Office of the Public Sector Development Commission, Office of the National Human Rights Commission, the Bio-diversity Based Economy Development Office and more.

Floor 1 is the basement. There is a dry cleaner, florist, copy center and places to eat. Floor 2 has a small library called the Public Health Library! The place is amazing. You enter on floor 2. That's the floor for Immigration for BKK. At the info desk, I was told to go upstairs to the Nonthaburi residents immigration. After I submitted my 90 day form and the man stamped it and handed me the bottom portion (only passport and form needed, no photocopies or pics), he handed me a little slip of paper in Thai. It was the address where Nonthaburi residents will soon have to go for immigration. But call first to make sure it's open.

  7. From the Los Altos article

"...Authorities dismissed the guesthouse’s air-conditioning system despite the fact that another female tourist took ill in the only other air-conditioned room where they were staying."

There's a bit of new info.

You're right, that is new and I didn't notice it. That and the sewage smell are two new facts from this article. The a/c does not circulate air from the outside. However those two rooms would be the only ones that kept their windows closed because they have a/c. So if something came up from the drains, it would not be diluted with fresh air from open windows.

  8. You are lucky if it's been almost a year and you haven't had any problems recording with the PVR. :o When it works, it's really fantastic. Lately over 50% of my programs are "unrecordable." So I called Truevisions again. The guy I talked to knew all about the PVR. He said the PVR software is unstable, causing everyone to have the same problem. They are working to upgrade it. When I asked how I will know when there is a software upgrade, the guy said they will send out a letter. They cannot give me my money back. :D He said the only thing they can do is take my unit, give me a temporary replacement, and repair my unit. However I decided not to do that. If it is a software problem, then I don't think it would be any use to have them repair the unit.

  9. I set a very important program to record last night. I woke up today to find it "unrecordable." It happens a significant percentage of the time, maybe about 25%. I called about this a while ago and the lady "reset my profile." For a few weeks, everything recorded. Now it is back to being "unrecordable" sometimes. She also advised me to plug and unplug. What else can I do? I advise you NOT to get the Truevisions PVR. Sometimes I have 5 things set to record and the next day all 5 recorded as "unrecordable." It is so disappointing. An equally annoying thing is when I watch a few minutes of a recorded program and it freezes at that point. The Truevisions PVR is not reliable at all. Also, can anyone tell me why some of "my schedules" appear in red? See attached jpg.

  10. Many of the shows I set to record on the Truevisions PVR came out "unrecordable." I found a solution. Go to My Schedules. Delete the shows that are in red font. Then go back to the TV guide and set them to record again. Hope this helps! I like the PVR for ease of recording. We record a lot!
Well I have to revise this. The PVR was still recording many programs that were just a black screen or a still picture and the words "unrecordable press stop to return to my programs." So I called Truevisions and they reset my profile. Now it's better. In addition I asked what the red font meant in My Schedules. She tried to research it but could not find the answer. So I still don't know what it means when some of the programs I have scheduled to record turn to red font in the list.

  12. My husband is Thai. He went to college in the States, and worked there, but never became a US citizen and it has worked out for us.

    1) US Social Security: We got a statement saying he is eligible for ss benefits when he retires. We'd have to live in the US or a country that has a treaty for him to collect.

    2) US Visa: He gets a 10 yr visa from the US Embassy in Bangkok.

    3) US taxes: Zero. On our joint bank accts in the US we use his ss number first, so the interest is reported to the IRS under his ss number. There is no tax on interest earned by nonresident aliens. This doesn't apply to dividends though. We therefore put all our money into CD's and the interest is tax free. He does not file a US tax return since the interest is exempt.

  13. We have TOT broadband at 500 baht per month. We like it. Remember when you set up, unplug all the phones in the house or it won't connect. You will have your landline phone near the computer, connected through the modem. If you plug a phone in at another jack, the TOT broadband disconnects.

  14. I got TOT ADSL and it was easy. I applied on Friday, got a call on Monday that my line was connected. I went down to the TOT building on Chaengwattana, bought a modem from TOT, remembered from this forum to ask for my username and password, went home & got it working! One glitch, it wasn’t working until I unplugged a telephone in another part of the house. So now we have only one telephone, the one plugged into the splitter. I have heard that too many telephones interferes with ADSL. One question, does TOT have mail servers? Or should I use yahoo? I recommend TOT because you don’t have to have a True telephone number. They said a lot of people are signing up at TOT! It's now available in the Pakkret area. And I was on a waiting list for True! True said a number would be available only if someone cancelled or moved. I'm happy my wait is over & I got TOT!!!

  15. Hi everyone, maybe you can answer some questions. I live off of Chaeng Wattana Rd in Nonthaburi. I went to the TOT office in Laksi & they said ADSL is not activated at Chaeng Wattana Rd yet. I like TOT's 500/month price. But I would like to know, do I have to keep my inet.co.th account in order to connect with ADSL? That dialup account is now costing me B 700 and up per month by the hour, so will that cost continue? I think a big advantage of ADSL is that my phone line won't be busy. Do you think it's worth waiting for TOT or should I check out True availablity. I heard an ad on the radio saying Csloxinfo has ADSL available to everyone everywhere in the country. Is that possible? Thanks!

  16. [FONT=Arial] Dear nokgow, If you live in Nonthaburi near the Int'l School Bangkok, there are many neighborhood groups, for example coffee mornings, bridge, sightseeing, etc. There is a neighborhood newsletter called "Nonthaburi Neighborhood Reach" with lots of things to do. This is for all the neighborhood, not just Americans with Thai husbands, but there are a few of us around! For things to do to keep busy, there's shopping, learning Thai, vacationing around Thailand, visiting the Thai relatives :o etc.!!! I'm sure you would like retiring here. Good luck! P.S. Does anyone listen to FM 102.5 in Bangkok ? It's great!
