  1. last month my laptop had a brake down took it in for repair and yep lost last years photo's due to hard drive having a problem

i had started to move them to an external hard drive but never got round to doing last years, lesson learned,

is there away i can get my photo's back from my sd card's,

  2. go back to OP, now use Canon 7D and want to know the difference on Full Frame, say Canon 5D.

if your purpose is for shooting snap shots on street ( or in public ), 7D has much more features for handy quick shots, than even the new 5D mark III. another minor advantage 7D is slightly smaller. be remind that 5D and 6D already the smallest Full Frame in Canon range, others 1D stuffs are monster for field applications on street.

what lenses you have with your 7D ? if you have the lenses for 'cropped' sensor, they are not quality enough for the Full Frame; then you may need to buy new lenses for the Full Frame too.

last but not the least, picture quality from the sensor, if you don't always blow up to A3 print size, nor you don't crop into fine details, you won't find big difference in turn of everyday quality.

yeah, put money on lenses are more effective.

i use a 85mm on the 7d, i think its mid range in terms of cost and quality, i never print photo's just view on screen,

i guess that buying a top end lens would go a long way in quality of photo's. as you say if i would not notice a big difference in everyday shots,

but taking in replys about lens quality would be the way forward for now

  3. The main drawback of a full frame camera is its size.

I feel my 550D is much easier to lug around.

Image quality wise, there is not much difference between full frame and crop sensor.

But there is a difference in lens quality.

The travel lenses made for crop sensors don't deliver really good picture quality, and the crop sensor multiplies lens imperfections by the crop factor...

This combined to the fact that there are no high-quality travel lenses for crop sensors condemns the crop sensor camera owner to use mediocre lenses if he's not willing to swap lenses.

Canon L lenses offer 24-135 and 28-300 lenses, but their wideangle becomes 40mm and 48mm equivalent, which isn't usable as a travel lens - one needs less than 20mm on a crop sensor.

That's one of the big catch 22's from my point of view.

If I had to redo my choice of a DSLR, I'd go with a Nikon D7000 instead of my 550D, but I'd think really hard about getting a mirrorless camera with a big sensor instead.

i use a 450d with kit lens 18-55 light easy to use,,and 7d with 85mm lens ,the 7d is much better for quick focus shots,if i go wide angle say 20mm,surely range would be lost,

  4. you mention pattilung,,do you mean patthalung,,i know this town been there a few times,,thali noi lake,is that the lake the government has just sold of to locals to open as a tourist attraction,,maybe the same one,,been there,,

just wanted to travel south more,, but have no idea whats there or what to do,,

yes "patthalung "that might be another variation on spelling, as you know if you have been to Thailand, signs can vary as to spelling of a particular place... on the coast near Thali Noi, is a town called Ranot, or Ranod, depending who wrote the sign! Very much a farming and fishing community... problem is in some of these areas there are not a lot of places to stay ....

Home stay is becoming a "buzz" word in the area ... but you find it very basic for around 200 baht a night ... It depends if you want basic living on the road less traveled or the "safety" of "city living"... in rural areas not many people speak English, but you always get by..... I do anyway!

What you mention about the government selling off part of the lake area, I had not heard, but it is already a tourist destination .... but rarely do you see westerners.... but I think that will change with more resorts, it has improved in the last five years, since I first went, in that regard. (I stay with locals though)

The three "troubled provinces" in the south, are "pretty" but even though I drove through them last summer, it is a risk.... but then too is crossing the road anywhere ! That choice can only be yours....

Heading towards Trang is quite nice too, but not really set up for tourists.... National Parks are usually worth seeing if that is your "bag".... The thing is if you don't like a place it is easy to move on....

Going on a wild goose chase can be fun, it comes down to what you like ! You can malls and Tesco anywhere!

if its the same town we are talking about patthalung, there is a huge fresh water lake on the out skirts of town,i have seen tourist there mostly thai,im sure the locals have been given permission to build log cabins and eatireis for touring folk on the banks of the lake,my interest is hat yai and as mentioned songkla,so any info will be helpful,

Don't go on a wild goose chase drum.

Stay in central Hat Yai for a day or two and then visit Songkla.

Songkla is my favourite but very quiet.

Endless white sand beaches to walk at sunset time!!

...it's also crawling with thais at that time...for what it's worth..

At night ,in Songkla, go up Si Suda rd...there are a few farang bars(no hostess), if you are so inclined.

On Sunday, there is a huge market in the middle of town.

Actually the two towns complement each other perfectly.

Songkla offers the 'beach' lifestyle, minus the tourists and Hat Yai is a bigger more commercial place with Carrefour,Tesco and a few shopping malls, movie theatres etc.

Songkla has none of the above.

If you need hotel recommendations PM me.

i like the sound of songkla, how far away is hat yai town,,will need hotel information for both towns,,all and any info will be helpful

no i dont need the company of a hostess, but thanks to point it out,,

  7. Well, to be honest, it is quite unusual to fly into to Thailand and head straight down to Hat Yai for tourism purposes. It is not much of an interesting place, however its little brother, Songkhla town has its charm that makes it enjoyable.

Get there by train, bus, plane. I prefer the latter option as the distance is quite considerable, 950 km.

Book hotels online, they are fairly cheap in Hat Yai, or get a hotel after arrival.

you can visit the town centre, Gimyong market, Floating market, Wat Hat Yai nai, Cable car, Tangkuan hill, Samila beach, Tho Nga Chang waterfall.

Beach, 30 km, called Samila beach. Quite a long stretch of sandy beaches. Although it seems ok I have never seen anybody dipped into the water there and this time of the year the sea can be quite rough. There is the "famous" Tangkuan hill in close vicinity where you can meet hoards of monkeys, watch your valuables.

As for the nightlife, there is an abundance of nightclubs and Thai style live music pubs tucked away around Hat Yai. You can find many places right in the centre. Get around by tuk tuk or Song taew. Price starts from 20 baht for short distances.

I don't know of any "no-go" places in Hat Yai, but I would not rule out the existence of them.

You can get the same street food as usually around Thailand. The town is fairly safe apart form the occasional terrorist movements by the southern insurgents that cause disruption at odd times.

thank you for the information,is there regular flights from bkk to Hat Yai ,

  8. planning a trip to yat hai, never been there before,so will land in bkk,any information how to get there, also hotels, beach, night life, where to go where not to go,general information for a tourist,

  9. serious question in my travels round thai i have only visited to massage palor's, had 2 foot massages's dont see the point in them they do nothing for me,

my question is are these shops parlors a front for sex,how many of the girls work in this business do offer sexual turns,

  10. just had the battery back from test lab,its burnt out,ive charged it many times in thai as well as the uk,but my recent visit to thai i charged it up in the hotel, with out useing my uk to thai voltage plug adaptor, has this hotel had provision for 3 pin plugs, wont be doing that again, charger is in working order, just burnt out the battery,

  11. Is the charger the correct voltage for the outlet its plugged into?

    Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com

yes i did think to buy a multi charger, but decided to order a canon charger £50,so quite sure its not a voltage or charger problem, new canon battery is on order waiting delivery now £50,again could of brought a multi battery half the price but i think its best to use canon products,

  12. fully charged my battery 30 shots dead battery, had battery and charger tested, charger fault,,orderd and waited 2 weeks for replacement, put the battery on charge, red then to green in secounds, fitted to camera nothing, now waiting for new battery,,could there be a problem in the camera,

camera is about 18 months,or is it a more likely to be a battery fault?

  13. As I have said in another topic in Pattaya forum, you can get away with more than 200 cigs going into the UK from outside the EU. A lot depends on your attitude when stopped.

I have and often do go back with 200 - 400 cigs and 10 packs of tobacco. When searched I simply tell them I smoke and they are for personal use. Do NOT forget to smile and be polite.

    **Note

A great many people going into the UK from Thailand will be searched. They are looking for drugs mainly and weapons also. So expect to be stopped. And if you have that many cigs that you mention, they will be taken.

There is often some leeway but your amount would be taking the piss as far as they are concerned and you could be in more of the brown stuff.

    **Note 2

IF you post them, do NOT send them in their cartons!! Break open the cartons and pack them into a different size and shape so they do not look like cartons of cigs wink.png

surely a waste of time every package gose thru x ray,
