Any ideas on best overall location?
Including housings, livng costs, quality housing safety, local international school costs....
Thailand seems too expensive(especially schooling at international level) and dangerous but Malaysia seems to be a viable alternative?

better to hold up a white flag to the beaches here....

sounds like a classic argument which can only be resolved by handbags at dawn......
I holiday here for 2 months out of 3 fella so i know what the real cost here, and i retired here when i was 40.
WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO JUDGE ME JUST BECAUSE YOU WASTE YOUR MONEY DOESNT MEAN WE ALL HAVE TO!.
further more i think its my choice what i want to pay as for the likes of you if you cant offer something constructive why bother at all?.
What gives me the right? This rubbish that you posted does so:
im Looking for a guest house or condo to rent for my 16 day stay in Pattaya it seems the Thais still want silly money..You mean that they want more than £7 per day for their accommodation??
Of course it is your choice what you choose to pay, but if you choose to post it here you cannot complain if the comment is not favourable to your argument.
After all, you are 'judging' the 'Thais'.
Just for your information, I retired from work a lot earlier than you and spend more than half the year travelling the world. Maybe we have differing ideas of "successful".
Since you write
and profess yourself to be knowledgeable about Thailand, maybe you can advise us on good quality places to stay in Pattaya for between 300 and 350 baht baht per night on a short term basis. I have a feeling you are good at 'placing your foot in your mouth'.so i know what the real cost hereWhat kind of "successful businessman" would subject himself to such a low quality of accommodation?

very good...sounds like you have facts.........have prcies gone up or not?
Institutions????? nahh let's leave them for those who need help!
I heard they jacked the prices off the charts.....looks the "lucky" customers will be paying through the nose to help cover the refurbishment costs and excess staff......I'll give this place a miss....If you just heard it, why don't you go yourself and check it out?
TQ is a Pattaya institution, whether you like it or not.
It's not my taste really but from time to time I drop in.
Cheers

can anyone explain the Thai obsession with mirrors...in japanese shinto shrines the miror has some spiritual connections , but is there any connection in Thai thought.....I saw one office secretary with 2 mirrors on her desk and her screensaver was a picture of herself......also go on any elevator with mirrors and everyone is transfixed with their own image......what gives?

maybe there are some "overheads" missing from your calculation.....
So I'm guessing this is the first term that you've had your kids in St, Andrews Green Valley since the new fees are published every term and invariably go up.I notice in your calculations you have fogotten to include the construction costs of the new buildings, library and learning centre building last year, 2 new kindergarden buildings the year before, a new canteen I believe this year.
Sorry, not picking on you, but one more point from my original calculation
5,625,000 class fee's plus plus per class, less
1,080,000 teacher (maybe a little more for work permit etc)
180,000 teachers aid
4,365,000 per class to cover admin, maintenance, security.
And there are around 800 students at St Andrew's so at 15 students per class, that around 50 classroom x the above.
So even if they gross around 4 million per class, not sure exactly how many classes in the school, but the school has around 800 students, that as I mentioned above would be around 50 classes.
Therefore, that would be a gross of around 200 million per year and they certainly didn't spend that on buildings etc.

Kudos to the OP for honestly clarifying because many people have different definitions of up market, low market etc.....maybe just specifying the prices will help people to understand what is being discussed....

Not sure I would classify any of these as "up-market", especiailly in buakhow......all the overpriced "upmarket" ones like Northpoint, La Royale seem to have gone the way of the do-do.... the new ones seem to be low to middle class low rise developments, as in the pratumnak area......the question is , will the russians buy them all....and who is next after the russians decide to leave?

Does anyone have any tips on best daytime and nighttime deals at the moment?
Thanks

Thanks for your helpful response.
I actually also need an International Permit for other countries…..do you know if Chonburi will issue this and do you have any simple directions on how to find the Chonburi office.
Also re Thai license, how many months before expiration of my Thai license can I apply for a renewal?
Cheers!
Ah - something I can comment on!Avoid Pattaya!
You don't need an IDP if you have a Thai licence.
THere are several other offices in \chonburi province who will issue a Thai DL.
Some nationalities are required to take a test.
May I suggest you go to either Ao Udom or Chonburi itself?
THese places are usually quieter.
I'm told that the best time to go to Chonburi is on a Friday afternoon straight after lunch - it is quietest then - why I don't know.
you can get the required photos done there etc etc and it shouldn't take ore than 30 to 60 minutes if you don't require a test.
If you don't speak Thai it might help to take a Thai speaker with you.

Is it possible to get the Thai Driver’s license and International Permit in Bangkok even with a personal Chonburi address, or does this have to be done in Chonburi? The reason being that Chonburi takes a few days to issue the International Permit, whereas Chatuchak Dept of Land Transport can issue it in a few minutes. Also, I have the same question for the Thai license, as Chatuchak seems more efficient for getting this done as well.
Thanks for advice

Any recommendations on places that do good economical service is appreciated!

Hello
I know there are many types, but some seem very overpriced? Does anyone have advice on the best combo of quality/economy for a non-sickly type assuming some international travel……mainly to cover major accidents or massive costs, not the small stuff…
Cheers….

Can anyone recommend a good brand and where to get?

I'm calling troll on this one.....
If not, live and let live, don't worry too much about others......
Nothing wrong with a good "troll" if people respond in a positive manner. It beats reading a continuous bunch of questions of which many could be answered by a simple research.
well, it is cheaper entertainment than True Visions/UBC....I guess you get what you pay for!

Easy crossing at both borders and make sure the cars blue book is in ur name, You exit thailand with the blue book and get some forms to fill out which u then give to the cambodia side. Visa for cambodia is $20 ( DO NOT PAY 1,000 Bhat as they sometimess ask.
at koh kong they ask for 100 baht./day thta u will stay in Ca,bodia . I always paid about 400 baht only, (one time stayed 6 months with the car)
sorry I was looking for the quickest border run post from Pattaya without driving over the border in the vehicle........I beleive it is Ban Pakkad but if I am wrong please inform

I know there will be some bias but I wanted to ask anyways... has anyone here been to brazil or the other latin american countries? What do you think of the latina girls vs Thai girls?
Put a Thong Bikini on a typical Thai and Brazilian young woman, stand them in the middle of Rio's Copacabana or Ipanema Beach, you'll see which one has the natural curves. It's like talking about apples and oranges, they're both fruit...but the similarity ends there.
One of each please!!!!……errr ooops!!!!!! thinking out loud again! I will have to have my tourette’s looked at this year…..
