So in short, any service that streams Sky Sports in Thailand, or that has an address located at a 29m² studio on Sukhumvit will be illegal.

    This.

If it is in Thailand, it is illegal.

No, just kidding. But there are some other problems associated with licensing rights (well actually, there are tons of issues on a daily basis) and that is the possibility for other companies to buy portions of it from the last. That means that the rights to show content could be given to one company in an area but depending on the contract, that company could in turn be allowed to further sell those rights within their own licensing rights area. That kind of conditional terms is rather common in many countries in Europe. Copyright law are mixed with business law and in many areas are somewhat of a jungle to navigate through. That is why I really like that comment above. It is a good indicator something is not right.

So how do you know if the stream is legal if you don't want to use indicators? I would call and ask. But who to call is another question. The staff at Sky could probably find out which companies they have contracts with, they also publish partners on their website I think, but the content, contract details, if it is allowed to further be sold on, is more tricky. Company secrets. (But I would guess Sky would be able to tell if they have allowed other companies to sell the rights again.) So that means one would have to call the company providing the potential illegal stream. And they can lie of course. Which means we are back on step one, indicators: The 29 square meter studio on Sukhumvit road. =)

Persisting with questions about 365sport on a thread clearly called thaiexpattv is on a hiding for nothing. Someone has claimed here that they are one and the same but not every thaiexpattv customer subscribes to both services.

thaiexpattv PC software  version is fully operational again.

Waiting for a thaiexpattv box user to confirm same for their service.

For 365sports, please start another thread. If you won't I will.

Perhaps you missed it was a moderator that made that call so can't really complain on people just doing what the moderators tell them to do.

There is no need to start another thread as you will see in the posts above.

Good news to hear pc version working, thanks for that info! Let's hope box users get it back soon as well.

  3. Thanks, Forkinhades.

I would expect some news about this but haven't seen anything yet. Anyone else? Maybe too early.

I wonder if this is due to illegal streaming or related to the cyber attacks.

  4. Thanks for the reply, Boo!

But no, it is not Pingu although as you say, kids love that one for some reason. =)

The main character seems to be some kind of sea lion. Not sure, really. He/she is blue. The quality of the animation is very good. The textures looks like the newer short animations by Pixar. That is why I think this show is rather new.

If you think of anything else, please feel free to post it 8)

  5. Greetings, peeps!

I am looking for the name of an in my opinion brilliant animated tv-show for kids that Truevisions show/showed. It used to be on channel 31 before they changed the channels. I don't remember the channel name though. I have temporarily moved from Thailand so I can't browse the channels.

The show is very nicely animated so I guess it is rather new. It is about some animals living in an area of ice and snow. Could be the north or south pole or perhaps just a large chung of ice in the atlantic or something like that. They don't speak words but instead make cute sounds. One of the animals look something like a sea lion or seal and it is blue in colour. It is very helpful to other animals.

If anyone know what the name of this show is I would love to hear it. I think my daughter would like this show very much.

  6. Greetings,

I need to find a company to do some work for me cutting grass, cutting bushes, trimming trees, removing weed from walls, cut branches overhanging roads and walls etc on several plots (around 10 small plots or 220 m2 each) in Cha Am area.

Would anyone be so kind and tell me what the thai word/s for this kind of work would be, please?

    Regards

  7. Greetings,

As title suggest I need to find a company to do some work for me cutting grass, cutting bushes, trimming trees, removing weed from walls, cut branches overhanging roads and walls etc on several plots (around 10 small plots or 220 m2 each) in Cha Am area.

Anyone have suggestions on companies performing this kind of work in Cha Am or Hua Hin? I checked the ads on Thai visa but they seem to be far away from this area so i would prefer a local company if any.

Did a search on forum as well but didn't find anything relevant. Perhaps the english wording for this kind of work is not gardening or landscaping?

    Best regards

  8. There are also rumours about some higher custom officials not giving out notice about these auctions so they are the only ones attending and that way will be able to pay almost nothing for it but so far those are just rumours to me as I haven't been able to confirm them at all.

However that said, it can't hurt to get a personal contact in a higher position at customs.

  9. 1. I believe the tax is 320% of perceived value.

    2. This means that customs decide the worth of the car. Not the actual value for which you bought it.

For instance, I was planning to bring a Ford Mustang from the US to here. It is not an expensive car really, all engine and plastic but it is highly customizable. The price in the US is aorund 30k usd. I was told by customs agents that the value percieved on that car would be somewhere close to 100k usd due to it being a muscle car and rare, on which I would have to pay around 320% tax giving a roughly total of 400k usd for a 30k usd car. Not worth it.

    3. If you know someone at customs they could reduce the percieved value but that is a gamble.

    4. There are many sports cars that customs have kept in custody as their owners have not been willing to pay that extra tax based on fiction figures. These cars many times will be sold on auction after some time. The starting price is usually what the taxes would have been but there has been exceptions.

    5. I believe embassy personnel are allowed to import one car dutyfree every 2nd year. Something to think about.

I still havent given up getting a fun car over here but it looks very remote. My wife's sisters man works in customs and give me some insight to it but it just doesn't seem affordable enough. Better to buy one here unless you are very wealthy.

Hope you find a solution. Good luck, mate!

  10. Yeah, I'v been thinking about building a ladder myself. I'm not a very good carpenter though but how hard can it be to build a 6-7 m long ladder? ;)

I'm more worried about it slipping/skidding away when I'm on the top and nowhere to secure a safety line...

I would prefer renting a truck with ladder or similar though. Any ideas where I could find something like that?

  11. Greetings, peeps!

I need to do maintenance of the gutter system on my two-storey house as some of them are leaking :hit-the-fan:. Most of the them are beyond reach however. I either need a very long ladder of around 6-7 metres (scary!) or to get some kind of utility vechicle like a small size crane or similar.

There is a 5m "tower" in the area they move around where needed to use for electric cables work and such but I can't get that one in position due to trees, bushes, pool and such.

Any suggestion on where I might find this in Cha Am, Hua Hin or Peatchburi area? Or if there are some companies offering roofwork/gutter repair service? I'd be more than happy to pay for their services as long as prices are reasonable ;)

  12. Ok, more info:

The os 4 already has an option do shut off roaming that actually works with any other carrier as well. Something with Cellular data toggling on/off. I'm sure you can find it.

Before this option was availabe, when using turn roaming on/off it only affected the home carrier. If you got your phone in UK and used it in Thailand it would only prevent roaming with your Uk carrier. The local Thai carriers would still allow roaming thus increasing your bill unless having contract with them.

For permanent internet block I found two options: One is for jailbroken phone and is called bossprefs. It is available from Cydia, the company that provides apps for jailbroken phones. With this one you can disable 3g/edge and when doing so the phone will only get internet via wifi.

The second option, workable for os before 4.x is to click the link on this site: install this That will install an app that blocks all internet except for wifi networks. Can not toggle on/off and it may be required to have a jailbroken phone, I'm not sure.

I hope that was all 8)

  13. About the unlocking of 4.2.1, I'm not sure it can be done yet. The os is jailbreakable but I don't know if there is a solution for unlocking it. You have to check with the phone selling companies that do these things. If you live in Bangkok there are plenty of them.

If you find a good one that seems knowledgeable and they tell you it can't be done yet chances are they are telling the truth =)

However, I believe these companies do "untethered" unlocking, which means you don't have to worry about it after you have unlocked, it just works as any other phone. So if they say it can't be done perhaps there may still be ways to do a "tethered" jailbreak/unlock but the drawback on that is that you need a computer to start your phone every time after you have shut it off.

If they cant help you, google on iphone unlock 4.2.1 and see what you can find. I'm sure there will be solutions for tethered jailbreaks soon enough.

    Good luck!

  14. Hi mate,

Sorry I can't help you with the jailbreak on your device but perhaps I can help with your bills. I got two Iphones in Sweden and brought to Thailand. They were 3gs with firmware 3.1.2 which is very good for jailbreaking. However, it seems that some (not all for some strange reason) Iphones tries to constantly connect to an internet network. If you have wifi where you spend most of your time you're ok but if you don't it will try to connect with the best option available which in most cases is gprs in Thailand. If you don't have a contract with your operator the costs can easily increase a lot. This is what happened to my and the missie's phone. She discovered as she has a habit of checking her phone bills often. In just a week or two her bill was over 2000 baht..

There are settings in your Iphone where you can shut off internet roaming but it doesn't work if you are on a domestic card, ie, you bought an uk phone, brought it to Thailand, got a local dtac or whatever card and start using that one. There are only two options I'm aware of to stop these internet connection attempts when out of wifi access:

The first and easiest is just to call your operator and have it permanently shut off. It will still work with wifi of course. The operator will claim that you with a starpoundsomething code can activate and deactivate it at will but that didn't work for me, possibly because of my phone being jailbroken.

The second is to download an app that takes care of it. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the app and I have just sold my two Iphones so I can't check it for you. The name can be something like vpn block, roaming block or something. I can look further on the net to see if I can find it again. There is a chance this one is for jailbreakable phones only though.

What this program does is that it blocks all internet access except the one you get from wifi. There is no on/off function though so you might want to start with first options and do it with your provider instead.

    Good luck mate

  15. Greeetings,

I wonder if anyone know if one or more of the sony ericson x10, x10 mini, x10 mini pro or Nokia N8 have support for thai language yet? Menus, sms and virtual keyboard for instance. The missy is very fond of this phone but I can't find info if Thai is supported. Have found some instructions on how to do it on the net but the list was hefty and it may or may not work so better if anyone here already have one of these phones and could enlighten me.

    Cheers

  16. Thanks a lot for the replies!

Yeah, ping is only one way to measure a connection and not really a good one as some said. I use tracert and also pathping a lot together with pings. The thing is that the uk server is at many times completely unreachable for me and the company is suggesting a redirecting tunnel but I should try to find out which one to use. Since my pings are rather slow, around 2000ms for most of the part, and tracert times out sometimes I thought I could see some input from other users as I probably have faulty internetconnections from the house. This could perhaps help me a bit more with the troubleshooting.

There are some good speeds (from my point of view anyway) out there. =)

    Once again, thanks!

  17. Greetings,

The search function is out of order for me it seems. I am sure there are threads about this already, my apoligies for that =/

Where can I buy some basic gym equipment like benches, bars, weights, treadmills, crosstrainers, dumbells and such in Cha Am / Hua Hin area?

    Thanks
