  1. NKM...as PhuketFm states that it is not associated with previous arrangements, I guess you could say the 8th October event is indeed running in competition to Punchline Comedy. This would also fit in with my recollection of Phuket FM radio's reluctance to help promote the previous Punchline events.

Ok. So, where can I get more info? Eg. where to buy tickets

I'm happy to suport both companies.

I'm surprised PhuketFM have not replied on this seeing as they claim to be supporting the event. By chance though, I just read the following on stickmanbangkok.com and thought it may be of interest to you:

"The Scottish Business Group is presenting a night of Scottish comedy with Raymond Mearns and TV star and comedy award winner, mad Phil Kay to raise funds for The Gift of Happiness Foundation. It takes place on October 4th at the Holiday Inn Ball Room, Sukhumvit soi 22, from 6.30 PM. This is an annual event - it being the second time in Bangkok - and though Scottish they are said to be perfectly comprehensible. It promises to be a fun night out with a buffet, wine and beer, plus the comedy. You can book tickets / tables now. The early bird price is 2,550 baht until September 20th or 2,850 baht thereafter. Tables of 10 are 25,000 baht. To book, call 081-8243157 or email:<removed>. Note: there are no walk-ins.

There will also be a show on Saturday October 5th at the Havana Bar at the Holiday Inn on Pattaya's Beach Road, and in Phuket on Tuesday the 8th at the Holiday Inn Resort. Both are independent events and prices are between 1,000 and 2,000 baht per ticket."

  2. Thanks everyone for the useful feedback.

I will try the local marine suppliers as suggested but as you say jaapfries, the one you bought in Pattaya does seem like a steal at that price and I may indeed take you up on your kind offer.

    Cheers,

  3. Hello,

Does anyone know anywhere in Phuket where a porta potty can be bought?.....or indeed the website of anyone in Thailand able to supply?

I think "porta potty" is the common name; specifically, what I'm looking for is a stand-alone chemical toilet that could be used by an elderly person who finds it difficult to navigate to the bathroom through the night.

    Thanks in advance,

    FB

  5. @madmitch

Thanks very much for the feedback. I know Pete used to put in a lot of effort marketing these shows. Without someone similarly dedicated, I doubt they will return to Phuket even if they do get back up and running in Bangkok.

  6. Hello, does anyone know if they still hold the Comedy Night events at Holiday Inn in Patong from time to time? I heard that the guy who promoted them left Phuket and I haven't seen any advertised for a while. If they do still happen, when is the next one scheduled for?

    Thanks, FB.

  7. "Is there a lap pool that's not a 200 baht rip-off per day anywhere?"

Just because 200 baht per day is the charge and you are not prepared to pay, it does not make it a "rip off".

Anyway, don't know if it's still there but go to Kathu and continue towards the Tesco Lotus interchange. Turn left immediately past the Shell garage and continue up to the end. There's a kind of semi-run down pitch and putt golf place with a 20m-25m rectangular pool. Used to use it myself early mornings - just walked in and said hello to the groundsman. Sometimes was asked for money (about 70 baht if I recall correctly) and sometimes wasn't; sometimes offered money and was met with bewildered looks. Like I say, I'm not sure if it is still operational - it was hardly a thriving establishment.

  8. Hello,

Just wondering if anyone knows whether or not Skippers Bar at RPM is still operating? Tried calling in a couple of times in passing last year but the doors were chained shut and not sure if it was just temporary closure or something more permanent (though the doors being chained shut was kind of appropriate for the general ghost town atmosphere of RPM).

    Thanks,

    Frank

  9. Why do they not bother to read these ads before going to press ?

i know, its ridiculous, any idiot knows the bushwacker 2001 did not have yingus bells.ha,some people

Yes, weren't the 2001 models factory fitted with flugel snorks?

  10. Does anyone know how to get copies of programs from Live radio 89.5? Sent an email but no answer. Some discussions about the deaths on roads and dangers and stopping people dying on the roads on Sunday afternoon. Any ideas? Is it on the net somewhere?

Doesn't the starter of this thread and jobbing Phuket DJ JayLeShark work for 89.5? Why not try a personal message to him for an answer?

I heard he does not work there anymore.

Ah, ok. I'm not a regular listener to 89.5 so I'm afraid I didn't know that jobbing DJ Monsieur Le Shark had left the building. Apologies therefore to KelMorg for this useless suggestion.

  12. I get the feeling that the radio wars are getting pretty ferocious between 89.5 and 91.5, like the way the Gazette was slagging off the Phuket News when it started.

....and now they are sitting side by side as forum sponsors. Wasn't the 91.5 logo sitting there until recently?

  13. Thanks for the suggestions, but i was looking for something a little more traditional, Turkey, ham etc

Been looking myself - found a few options below:

Irish Times, Jungceylon, Patong - 3 course, inc. turkey or ham main course and Xmas pudding, brandy sauce, mince pies - 895 baht + VAT

Islander, Soi Patong Resort, Patong - 3 course, inc. turkey, Xmas pudding & custard - 895 baht inc. glass of house wine.

Gallery Cafe, Phuket Town - mulled wine welcome drink then 3 courses, inc. turkey or ham but no Xmas pudding - 590 baht

All the above seem to be from 1pm - 9pm and all asking to make reservations.

  14. I personally think 89.5 is miles ahead of the other two. They have had some signal issues and totally agree it is irritating although it seems to be getting better and very stable now. I think the content on most shows is well prepared, relevant (local) and interesting. I also like their mix of music which appeals to my whole family (my choldren who are in their teens and my wife and I)

On a personal note, I have also dealt with them on a business level and I found them extremely professional and very friendly...something I can't really say for the other 2 who initially didn't even reply to my emails when I was inquiring about advertising with them i.e. giving them money which I found quite extrodinary to say the least. And when they did they were quite rude and rather arrogant

You would almost think this was written by the owner?

  15. Couldn't tune in to 89.5 this morning.

    Wonder why they're off air?

I managed to catch some parts of the Morning Show this morning but the sound quality was a pain to the ears! I have been experiencing this "volume" issue of 89.5 for quite sometime now. I am using an internet radio so nothing to do with poor reception.

Surely the great benefit of internet radio is that you can choose to listen to a vast selection of professional radio stations from around the world rather than having to endure the amateurish efforts churned out here in Phuket?

  16. Hello everyone,

I have one of those small electronic safes and yes, you've guessed it, the batteries have suddenly failed and I don't seem to have a key for the manual override. The safe is a "Sure" brand and has a sticker beside the lock showing the required key number. Does anyone know of anywhere on the island where they can help me get in and/or order a set of keys, thanks?

For info, the safe is small enough for me to take somewhere to get this done and my passport is inside so whoever opens it should be reassured that I have not stolen the safe.

Prefer to explore the non-destructive options first so any advice gratefully received.

    FB.

  17. You could try Bon Cafe just down the road from Tesco Lotus leading to Samkhong. They may let you taste some samples but they have a fairly good selection considering they are wholesalers.

    You're joking right?

    Bon cafe is rubbish

Quite right - Bon Cafe is not for the connoisseur. Give me a Nescafe 3-in-1 any day, especially the 3-in-1 Creamy.

  18. Regardless of any jobbing DJ wishing to be seen giving the public what they want, the only reasons for the existence of these radio stations is advertising income and one-upmanship over the competition. One media mogul gets into radio, so does the other one.....one gets into tocket selling, so does the other one........one gets into TV, so does the other one etc. What next?.....one goes bust, so does the other one? (more like one goes bust, the other throws a party).

Getting back on topic, waking up to some marching pipe bands in the mornings with old school acid skiffle in the evenings would certainly be welcome in this neck of the woods.

  19. i hope ireland will losse and things will get back to normal then we will have the stupid world sports games should be banned it would stop gambling in the world, ireland is in debt and should not give money to any irish team i wonder how much they gave for the 2 dopes in the eurovision ,it all should be banned for at least 30 years so the country can get back on its feet.

As far as your hopes go for Ireland losing, I don't think they will let you down. Maybe even Facebook multi-millionaire Bono could contribute a little towards his country's debt too?

Perhaps means testing should be introduced for countries entering future sporting events? Mind you, Group C would be a bit thin on the ground (Spain, Italy, Ireland & Croatia).

As for the OP, I would probably wander down Bangla & Soi Sansabai early doors and keep your eyes and ears open for groups of Irish lads; either they may planning to meet up and watch together or you could organise it on the hoof. You can go about this safe in the knowledge that, as already suggested, Irish Times makes for a good footy viewing venue, even if it lacks a bit of craic.
