  1. They all vary to a degree, so any heads up on which one is known for best exchange rates on Phuket would be appreciated thanks.
The best and reliable I know is "Airport exchange". It is just opposite of way out from old (domestic) terminal. Their main biz is car rentals, exchange occupies small booth inside.

  2. Has anybody faced with smilar extortion by immigration officers in Phuket airport? You had option to await in common queue or to pay 500 baht and follow through "diplomatic" (or Thai citizen) way which was situated on the right side of border passes. I have never used their services, however, last summer when returing here from HongKong one of the officers persistently troubled us asking "where us your visa?", "you need visa!" etc. It was quiet night time and only several chinese and arabs had applied to them, so, they were eager to get new "victims". I spend in Phuket only 3 months during year (one winter month and 2 summer months with 1 visa-run or 60 days tourist visa), so overstay etc is not my case. Only when I asked him to bring me to his boss he shut up and stamped me usual 30 days.

However, all that mess happend in "old terminal", not new one.

Move my post another thread if it is OFF.

  3. I do recommend maps2go app for Android smartphones. It has high scaled map of Phuket.

  4. Went to the Navrang Mahal all you can eat buffet last Friday at Karon.

The food was exceptional, and with real basmati rice. The vindaloo was to die for. Samosas were excellent and all other curries and their home made asha and chutney was also very good. Nice Philipino band with 2 pretty girls. 2 types of lassi as part of the buffet.

Nice ambiance and attentive staff, most of the time. 449B per.

We have visited it last Friday. Note, 449 baht is nett: in fact you pay 449 +10% service charge +7% VAT. As I and my son are big fans of curry and spice food we couldn't miss it. However, only one dish (vindaloo) is more or less spicy, others are generally edible without "tears in my eyes". Staff kindly advised "our curry is mild" and that was true. Variety is just what you can read in advertising, not more! Total about of dishes could be more diversified. Generall we like it, but it is a bit overpriced, IMHO.

  5. Was it just a terrible wine in your opinion, or was it "off" (due to heat/age etc)? I've had two box wines which were "off" and really couldn't drink them, so took them back.............but that's another story!

How could I return it if I already opened it? Not sure about "off", but wine is really terrible. Nothing to add. Last time we bought some Italian 5L pack in same Makro and it was OK, no headache, average quality..

  6. Mr. NamKangMan, you had chosen wrong company. What region had you visited? Yes, somebody drinks, but most of people consume moderately. People who drinks vodka at every meal are sick, simply alcoholics. As to "well documented" i again say it is myth.

  7. Mr. NamKangMan, how many times have you visited Russia? Seems never.. Otherwise you wouldn't post here links with absolutely bull shit. i read A LOT of similar "articles" with pure theories which are too far to real life.

  8. Russian men have a huge alcoholism rate. It is one of the most serious problems in Russian society. They are very macho with the big drinking but many are early dead. You choose.

This is not true, kind of myth. Very funny to read these speculatons anyway.. I barely drink myself (red wine sometimes, good brandy etc) and all my frends and surroundings do not drink much. Surely, i know a couple of often drinking guys, but never touch with them (all of them are from Far East Russia).

PS yeah, i'm from St-Petersburg myself.

  9. our manners is really changes from west to east of Russia for low but this is not a rule.

Also don't forget that people who speaks russian are not necessarily russian nationality.

    Nothing to add!

  10. Russian New Year festivities tend to go on for several days, and be warned that their Orthodox Christmas Day is on Monday 7th January.

Ortodox X-mas is very quiet and usually not celebrated by youngsters.

I'm sure you have to apply to visit police and make written claim to avoid such situation in future.
