  1. RCA? Across the road from McDonalds? Still there as of last month.

    McDonalds?

A McDonalds in Ao Nang??? Ao Nang beach off Krabi town? Is that really true? I won't believe this unless somebody sends me a picture of it. I went with my then fiancée to get married in Penang back in 1991 and on the way back we stopped in Ao Nang for a few days of honeymoon. There was nothing there, except a few guesthouses. That's not long ago.

Can someone lighten me up, please??

You should be lucky, if there is no McDonald's where you live! :-)

But if you expect the same as in 1991, I guess you were hibernated, hahaha. :-D

  2. Let me know immediately if you know any 3-4 bedroom house in December for 10,000 baht! :-)

You can easy find a house for max 10'000 Baht a month, but you won't find it online. You have to visit and search around physically. Houses in Ao Nang tend to be more expensive, but in the area of Talat Kao, Nuea Klong or Klong Thom all in the direction of Trang you'll find cheap objects.

  3. As I wrote it earlier already: I have a work permit. Read it back mate!

But what they have to do and what they do could be two different things here. I find that paper does not mean much to them. Also be aware that if you do continue working, you will need to show taxes deducted and paid from your salary of "50,000 Baht" a month, in order to get a further extension. Whether your salary is the amount required for hotel management jobs, or in fact less.

Check all the items and sub items listed in the contract, it may be worded to allow them to get out of it,with clause number ####. ie: if you are let go due to whatever, the salad was soggy, no compensation will be paid.

Not meant to be a negative reply, as I was also employed as a resort manager and Korat Immigration and my boss both knew before I did that no taxes had been paid on my behalf and I would not get an extension. Nice way to let me leave, negating my Non B visa.

You can't have ever renewed your WP then. In fact did you ever even have a work permit? If you have evidence that tax was being deducted from your salary but not being paid to the Revenue Dept then how did you know that the taxes hadn't been paid? Sounds more like you were working cash in hand knowingly avoiding taxes I wouldn't mind betting that you were hired by the company, got your non B then worked without a WP not paying income tax then got terminated. Am I correct? Sounds like karma to me. Surely if you were good at your job and treated people with respect your employer would have a good incentive to keep you here and get your WP organised for you Your assertion that paper doesn't mean much to "Them" is rediculous and incorrect. Severence pay is a matter of law in Thailand and there is nothing that an employer can write in a contract that gets them of the hook for it regardless of employee nationality. In the one case in my last 20 years here that my employer tried to avoid paying severence pay one phone call to the Dept of Labour solved the problem very quickly. At least for a reasonable sum of money the OP should get legal advice and if he is on the right side of the law then I feel confident that justice will prevail. However if you are no good at your job and treat the Thais disrespectfully then nobody will help you and karma will prevail

  4. Thank you! And thanks to everybody again!

You can find the Thai Labour Protection Act (in English) here:

    http://www.labour.go.th/en/index.php/2011-04-07-10-49-49/18-2011-05-04-15-52-28

There used to be a synthetic document (2 pages), I cannot find it at the moment.

The law will be on your side, don't hold out on a visa run to come back and claim your rights.

You will get your severance pay.

    Good luck

  5. Thank you for the - useful - informations!

    I don't have any contract.

I think, I will wait 2 weeks before my visa will expire and if they don't want to provide the required documents, I will send them a reminder, that I can show later at the labor department to prove I was ready to extend the visa and it was not my fault.

The problem at the labor department is understanding. I speak a little bit thai, but they don't speak any english. Probably I will have to take a thai person with me to help.

I know if my visa expire, I have to return my work permit and leave Thailand. But in this case I would make a visa run and get a 30 days tourist "visa". I will need a brake, I don't want to work for few months.

  6. I work for a thai resort for more than 2 year and there will be some changes here. I have work permit (will expire in aug 2014) and one-year Non-immigrant B visa (exp. Feb 2014).

As I heard the company will try to fire all of us (2 thai and me as a farang) next year, but they don't want to pay the compensation (as I know 3 months for me), so they will try to force us to resign. In my case they just won't help me to extend my visa, so after 4. February I may not work.

My question is, if I'm ready to keep on working here and have every required document to extend my visa, is it a termination on their site? So it means they have to pay me 3 months compensation. Am I right?

  7. In the World Series' first visit to Thailand the best high divers in the world will compete across four unique cliffs in Krabi, with spectator access for the grand final in Hong Island on October 26.

Arguably the world's most spectacular climbing site, Krabi's cliffs are sharp, pocketed walls of rock, each presenting unique challenges. Divers face tides, ocean currents and a steep rocky ascent before diving into the warm waters of the Andaman Sea.

The first of four different locations for the 2013 final is a 24m dive from Wang Long Bay on Phi Phi Don Island; two opposing cliffs, guarding a narrow inlet of crystal blue water 10m deep. This uninhabited island contains one tiny white sand beach surrounded by submerged limestone mountains.

The next stop is Maya Bay, one of the most popular beaches on Phi Phi Leh Island, where athletes will dive 27m from a special platform allowing them to perform more complicated arrangements of somersaults and twists. Here, spectators will be able to gaze through 6m deep water to the schools of brightly colored tropical fish and coral below.

Hidden inside many limestone cliffs are caves housing beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. At Viking Cave, the third dive site, athletes dive from atop a gigantic stalactite jutting out a dramatic 90° from the cliff. At this site, only accessible by boat, competitors dive 24.5m into the Andaman Sea at a depth of 8m.

The final dive site, on Hong Island in Lading Bay, is quintessentially Thai. A jagged atoll of cliffs surrounds powdery white sand with a view of more limestone pinnacles jutting out of the sea in the distance. The beach here is ready to welcome spectators and judges with a perfect 90° view of the 28m dives.

Krabi is a geological wonder and an ancient civilization, with the limestone cliffs forming 300 million years ago and human habitation dating back 40,000 years. Now, in 2013, for the first time ever, this unique marine landscape will provide the backdrop for the culmination of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

The event on Saturday, October 26, at Hong Island is the only location accessible to the public. The event starts at 9.30am and runs until 12.30pm.

  8. Sad story. Both sides are guilty: the thais because they killed that man, what was probably unnecessary and the americans because they were not in US, but in another foreign country (they should respect the band and don't try to get back the tip). Try to do it in the US! I saw some americans who think they rule the whole world...

But of course we don't know the whole story so don't judge anybody!

Conclusion: keep calm and don't drink too much if you can't handle yourself!

  9. There is a german dentist woman near the morning market: Mrs. Fisher: 075-630468, 088-7661587

But I recommend the pretty modern dentist clinic not far from Vogue: 075-622778. Same prices, but really modern with X-ray as well.

  10. Galaxy S3. Yes, the data speed in Ao Nang is blazing fast also. H+ I think on paper is up to 42Mbps or something like that. Anyway it was plenty fast enough for everything I ever want to do on my phone.

    Thank you for the information!

Just one more important question? How much do you pay for that? Do you pay a monthly package?
