  1. Have a word with your local Kubota dealer - their D60 rice harvester is proving popular and I have seen many farmers buying trailers to hitch to their pick-ups and tractors to carry them around. I had one which I sold to a local dealer.

  2. I have frequently traveled the Bkk-Sisaket route - take the roads 1, 2 and 24, start early morning in Bkk to avoid traffic and it takes me 6 hours. Maybe make first stop around here, or Ubon (anther hr) then follow the Mekong north, follow it round, perhaps as far as Loei, then make your way back to Bkk.

  3. Pro-Thaksin reds need to be acknowledged, but pro-Thaksin agenda should NOT be part of the political process - politically he's gone, finished, and irrelevant to Thailand's future.

Exept, that in the last few bye-elections in the NE, it is very apparent that a political candidate cannot be elected unless he/she has the endorsement of Thaksin in this region.

  4. When you get to Thailand I suggest you check with the immigration office which you will use if you want to use a joint account.

I use a joint a/c with my Thai wife and marriage extension was issued no prob - I have subsequently checked with my imm office many times and they still say my joint is ok. I use Phu Sing office. I am able to demonstrate that the money comes from my overseas sources and is around the Bt400K mark for 2 months prior to extn.

  5. It's difficult to give an output rate - there are so many variables - but when working the bales come out at about one a minute using a 50hp tractor.

We charge our customers by the unit so, for them, the bigger the better, about 1 meter long is normal for us, our competitors usually make them a bit smaller.

  6. This thread reminds me of a situation that occurred at a printing company in the UK. They were convinced that their printing machines would run better using de-ionized water and installed a machine which does that. Low and behold printing quality improved and waste levels fell, people came from all over the world to witness this new wonder.

A few months later, however, it was discovered that the installers had connected it to the wrong pipes and it was de-ionizing the water in the central heating system!

Sorry to go off topic, but it's not just in Thailand that such things occur.

  7. Khon Kaen would be preferable.

I have rice land in Sisaket and make a good living out of it. I believe that, in Khon Kaen, you can normally get two harvests/year, depending on irrigation, so expect to pay a bit more, say Bt50-60K.

  8. If the foriegn husband of Thai wife buying house is not in Thailand, is there a way that this government form can be filled out by him over the net or can he print off copy and fill it out, so that the wife can produce it at land office?

A few years ago I was living in Hong Kong and my wife was in Thailand and was buying a house. I went to the Thai consulate to make a formal declaration - it was not as simple as it sounds as I had to get passport, statement, etc. verified by British consulate and attorneys, but it worked and the house was purchased without my having to present. I don't think you will be able to do it over the net - they want original, stamped, documents.

I've now found an old thread which I started at the time my wife wished to buy the house: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/House-Sisaket-t41844.html

It gives more detail on how your Thai wife can buy in your absence.

  10. The cash transfer procedure is quite simple - as previously said, instigate a telegraphic transfer from your UK bank, you will be required to state reason for transfer, just put "Purchase of Property", you can transfer in Baht or Pounds and change in Thailand, it's up to you, check best exchange rates. When a large sum hits your (or your wife's) Thai bank a/c you will probably get a call from your bank asking what it is for.

You cannot own or have an interest in the ownership of land in Thailand and when you purchase the property you will have to sign at the land office that you understand this and that the money for the purchase is your wife's.

Solicitors are not normally involved in property purchase in Thailand, you just go along to the land office with the vendor of the land and get the names changed on the land ownership documents and house book.

One advantage of owning property in Thailand (albeit in your wife's name) is that there are not large ongoing costs involved (rates and taxes) but, if buying a condo, particularly in Bkk, check for service/maintenance charges.

  11. my wife found about my mia noy but, after some investigation, discovered that she came from a higher social circle than my neighbour's mia noy. So things seem ok now!

  12. Anybody know what they are paying around the Ubon Ratchathani area? Thanks.....

The price just down the road in Sisaket has been Bt14/kilo since the end of last year, however, this weekend it has gone p to Bt16 - which surprises me after all the doom and gloom I have been reading regarding being over capacity in Thailand/generally.

  13. All right guys,

    Two senarios.

    1) Farang found with an illegal unregistered gun in the car. Purpose for carrying = Self defense against highway car robberies and unexpected.

    - Used, open fire and shot death an attacker with a illegal unregistered gun.

    2) Farang founded driving alone with a legal registered someone else gun in the car. Purpose = Self defense.

    - Used, open fire anf shot death an attacker with a legal registered gun.

    What are the consequence?

I think that it would depend on where and why you (or the farang) is carrying the gun. If it is in a town or city at night the consequences could be quite serious. However, if you were in a rural community with a locally registered vehicle and a plausible reason for carrying a firearm (e.g. using expensive equipment and dealing with large sums of cash in a porous border area) there would probably be no consequence, especially if you are known and respected by the police.

  14. I see reams and reams of leaflets calling for Taksins return have been thrown littering not only Sisaket city but every small village and bus stop throughout the province.

They were dropped from microlight aircraft in and around the town.

Incidentally, I attended the rally held by the PTP party and they were very critical about visa regulations causing difficulties, particularly to Westerners.

Both parties fielded strong candidates with powerful campaigns but the support for Thaksin and his return to Thailand is uppermost in the majority of peoples' minds here.
