JIB, at least on their website, has Dell Vostro models like what you're seeking with a 3-year warranty. JIB has several branches in Chiang Mai, but you'd have to check with them as to what they may have in stock in the stores vs what they'd have to order in.

Very helpful! Thank you. I only knew about the Central Festival store which is small.

Ditto on JIB. They even send you a video of them packing your order. By far the best online IT retailer in Thailand.
InvadeIT are lame, they fill their website with stock they don't have, or never will have. They're also more expensive than anywhere else. Frankly I'm surprised they're still in business.

Agree on Invades stock and prices but the website user friendly which counts for a lot at least with me...

advice has only one Intel with no vga

    https://www.advice.co.th/product/computer-set-intel/set-intel/คอมประกอบ-advice-computer-set-intel-i176-i5-13400-no-vga

They also have some ryzen desktops with no vga starting from 11K

normally you need to look at their website after midnight as by the morning some models will have been removed once they go out of stock

Thank you! Good to know. Advice was about 2,000 baht cheaper than InvadeIt for the same model! But I couldn't find how to show teh website in English - am I missing something?

Depends if you are window shopping use local store or if you know exactly what you want

I have gone into electronics known what exactly what I was looking for salesperson isn't interested in the product I am interested in because there is  a special brand promotion on a different brand and when I say brand promotion = larger commission offered to sales staff

The asus site was not easy to navigate to what I want if could order it I would do so...

I understand - I want a PC tower (no monitor needed) Core i5, SSD hard drive, 16GB Ram and a 3 year onsite warranty. My budget is mid 20s

I just brought a new computer from a shop in our local town a new modal to, ticks all the boxes, except one they do not speak English, and that will be your big stumbling block .

So, buy one online likes of Amazon they will send to Thailand ,or as has been said JIB, they are competitive on prices.

Thank you for the ideas but:

JIB online is mostly sold-out of desktops and their store in the mall did not have much.

Amazon would be very difficult to deal with if there was any problem...

Buy direct from Asus or Dell sometimes manufacturers will offer onsite warranty either same day or next day.

shops have to go through a claim process of submitting a claim to the manufacturer for approval before they can replace a part that all takes time

Interesting idea, thank you - I went to their websites and didn't see how to order direct - I will look again

  11. Best online computer store in Thailand with good customer service in English for core i5 desktop computers?

I want to quickly buy an ASUS or Dell Desktop computer with a core i5 and 16 GB of RAM and a 3 year onsite warranty - other good brands considered... I don't need a monitor.

I also need a high end ASUS router for a large two story building.

I know about Invade IT - good service but not much in stock...

    Thank you!

Maybe somewhat true about reducing the lower cost of living in Thailand but......

I wish I was there now. I am here in the US & in a State that is expensive cost of living & yet you get almost nothing for your insurance

When we visit Thailand 3 months a year I am happy to pay for diagnostics I may want & can just get them NOW

We often think of moving back full time to Thailand but then say ...yeah but insurance is free here (Medicare)

    But truthfully it is crap

    For instance just today ...

Tried to see a doctor & am told soonest will be Late August maybe early Sept!

I am in great health eat well, exercise no smoking etc but I have had a nagging dry cough for a few weeks.

I tried a few different ways & at various locations to get seen & always the same reply...Late Aug.

If I were in Thailand now I would walk into a fine hospital & be seen & diagnosed today I'm certain & at a fair price

So yes you pay there but at least are served nicely/promptly

At this rate I may as well wait till Oct when we are back there. But hate to think of having a cough that long.(If that is the case)

I think that is why so many here are seen then diagnosed with something serious as it festers so long

Best post in this thread by far!

I am used to seeing an expert specialist with no appointment in Chiang mai at a cost that is probably the same or less than a US copay.

I think if I went home I would experience reverse culture shock...

But if my kids settle down in the US i will have no choice but to move back.

That's where the 800k in the bank non Imm O might come in useful for a medical emergency, will get them to treat you. Waiting to sell shares etc is too long

You are right, but at the most I have been asked by immigration for 400,000 and that's only for I think two months before the annual extension - not sure but is retirement 800,000? I have two kids in high school so until college is done I will be working... maybe longer as I like to work.

I don't recall it being very expensive...but I may have taken a high deductible on it.

Thanks again - reasonable - I may go with them.

"What I would like is inexpensive catastrophic coverage with a US$10K deductible and US$2M coverage, these used to be easy to get but (as I understand it) have been made "illegal", at least in the US.

    ====

There are also people who expect a $50 policy to cover the same things a $1,000 policy covers, and moan about exclusions and call the insurance companies greedy cheaters when their uncovers claims are not paid, or when they lie about preexisting conditions.

Look at the bright side, we're getting older, a lot of people don't. "

    Great post!

Let me add one detail I want teh wholesale rate teh insurance companies get for my deductible.

Example when my daughter was born the total bill may have been $10,000 (not sure a long time ago...) and my deductible was $2,000 but my $2,000 was already discounted from the public rate to the rate Kaiser pays. This is good - I could not find taht type of insurance in Thailand.

The self insured folks I know seem foolish.  100 to 500 k is very little for a major illness or accident.

Unless you have about 2 million today in an account for this, you are way under insured.  Good luck.

If your age and health prevent insurance with coverage why would it be foolish to self insure?

I agree that you need more than 500,000 baht put aside for care in a private hospital and after seeing teh horrible conditions in public hospitals I would not consider them for anything except a car accident when they are close by...

My colleague and I cvaught covid in the last few weeks, after 3 years of no infection. Both vaccinated ages ago. Everyone will be exposed to this virus, eventually.

I hope that you are all ok now - will you keep your vaccine boosters up to date going forward now?

I agree that in general everyone will be exposed bit a simple regular booster shot will probably keep you safe or at least much safer than without a shot...

How's those 5 shots working for ya now? Oh my goodness...

I guess the show must go on...

I have had six shots and am in a high risk group - also people in my house have gotten COVID but I am fine and no side effects from the shots and either free or low cost. If you have a rare condition that makes the vaccine dangerous maybe you shouldn't have it but otherwise it is a very good idea...

It's available for anyone. Mrs Dog got a shot last week and she is under 60 and not in a high risk group. However, the government is strongly recommending for over 60s and high risk groups.

    Thank you for the update!
