May and June there were two THA-flights per day (early afternoon TG921 and evening TG923) from FRA->BKK and from BKK->FRA accordingly. Seems like every other of those two flights is now cancelled for the whole period: I had a ticket for for the evening flight FRA->BKK at end of may and have been changed to the afternoon flight (see attachement). Wonder when they will cancel that one too...

You still want or have to fly to Thailand?
If not, the change of flights gives you the opportunity to get the complete ticket price refunded.

I don't know how it works here but normally the difficult part is declaring the emergency, particularly in a democracy. Once you've done that you can quickly take the measures that you'll feel necessary at the time.

I don't know if these are the same emergency measures that were used during the red shirt protests. They were existing ones put  in place by Thaksin but they may have changed since then.

The way its being done is petty normal. The issue is are they used responsibly.

According to another newspaper not to be named, measures include the ban of interprovincial travel and stricter control of (social) media. In both cases violators will be arrested and/or prosecuted.
Really "good news" for those who lost their jobs and couldn't make it back home yet.
Will be another very busy time at those big bus terminals in BKK.......

It's times like this that make you think...

What Thailand really needs to effectively combat the coronavirus is a military style dictatorship where the Army and Co. run everything, can control everything, can use their authority to issue orders at will unhindered by any facade of democracy, where the citizenry are cowed into subservience, where all forms of dissent are crushed...

Know any place like that?   :cheesy:

No, I never heard about Thailand or China.

Sure …. with al those requirements as corona free health certificate and the 100 000 USD insurance (3 000 000 baht …) from all  ?

You can almost be sure that these requirements will be waived for their new friends from China pretty soon.
But wait: What happens if their new friends don't act that friendly and issue a travel warning for Thailand since a deadly virus is raging there?

Thailand reported very early the first cases but did not see any mushrooming of cases. That is because the coronaviruses in general are highly temperature sensitive. The best temperature zone for spreading is 6-12 Celsius and it is a steep looking curve. With 30 C the virus dies quite quickly in most surfaces, couple of hours instead of days.

ICUs would have been overflowing two weeks before Italy easily if the spreading were as effective as in Italy.

This does not mean you should not be cautious and wash your hands especially when coming from errands and not touching your face when outside. Also do not eat with your bare fingers. You can also buy very small hand spray disinfectant pocket sprays, costs like 150 Baht per 5-6 bottles in sites like Lazada.

Scientists are still not sure if the virus is disabled by the mix of heat and huminity.
If we look to Brazil (hot and humid) the number of people infected with the Wuhan virus is just taking off. At the moment there are 151 confirmed cumulated cases (151 active, 0 deaths, 0 recovered). I'm sure that we'll see a 4 digit number not later than by the end of the week.
India also seems about to enter the phase of exponential growth. They are at 102 confirmed cumulated cases (96 active, 2 deaths, 4 recovered).

I think that population density. the intensity of social contacts and hygiene standards are much more important for the spreading of that virus than heat / humity.

Maybe your max is 10K, depending on the bank, I could get between 20 and 30K and choose the right option to get a good rate.

Depends on the bank and the model of ATM they are using.
I only use the ATMs of Krungsri Bank since they have a 30,000 BHT limit. Next is Bangkok Bank with 25,000 BHT limit, the rest of the major banks has a limit of only 20,000 BHT.
When on vacation I also use my credit card to get the necessary cash. Luckily my cc company does not charge me anything for doing so, just have to pay the dreaded 220 BHT fine for using a foreign cc.
When withdrawing the max amount of 30,000 BHT I get a slightly worse rate (220 BHT fine included) than changing cash at those yellow TT booths in Pattaya. But not getting my passport copied is more important to me than saving a few Baht.

Please keep in mind that the WHO is infiltrated by Red China.....
But anyway, if the published numbers are correct, the number of new Wuhan virus infections in Red China is almost zero (despite a few handful in Hubei province, which is virtually nothing compared to the population living there)
Is has also been reported that satellites detected an increasing air pollution in Red Chinas industrial regions, which indicates that industrial production and commuting have restarted.

And I also agree with you that tourists from Red China will be flooding Thailand again, after cleaning up the aftermath of the epidemic and lifting of travel bans.
So there will be most likely no "Armageddon" for Thailand - unfortunately. More a kick in the butt.....

    1) I listen to scientist. Not DannyCarlton from TVF.

    2) Becuase thailand motorbike/road accident and government hospital is not same, more poor people no money to buy good medicine eg survive cancer. Thai have stronger immune system. Sure.

    3) “debunked on this thread”. Which post #number this thread? Who? And same 1).

There are no poor people in Thailand. Thailand is a very rich country. If people have no money, they are just too lazy to work. And there's enough work to be found in Thailand since 100,000s of migrant workers from both Cambodia and Burma are working in Thailand.

If Thai people have such strong immune systems as you claim, then why do they need so many pills and medicines, check into hospitals when they get the flu and start dropping like flies when the temperature drops below 15 degrees?

    Below 15??
Everything above 30 is "ronn", everything below 30 is "nau".

I would like to see that little thai (?) troll trying to survive just one West European winter (there wasn't any winter so far by the way. Temps are on spring level in the double digits here). If she does it - which I doubt - lets continue the next year. With a Russian winter.

    2) eg tourist always come get sick from Thai street food. Snowflake.

    3) “I never lie”. Is lie. Everyone lie sometimes.

May be because he's a scientist. And yes, science is not limited to the country the scientist lives in.

    Wrong for 2 reasons:
    1. Medication is very cheap in Thailand. Thats completely different in the countries mentioned by the OECD here.

    2. Did you ever hear the term "dietary supplement"? That huge market (esp. in the US) also counts to the spendings for pharmaceutical products.

No, just anothe pack of lies from the Thai government.

Well, you call it lies (which is 100% true). But shouldn't we call it "alternative truth", this sounds much more positive and diplomatic.

Is this why the internet is having problems, some sort of censorship, or just coincidence ?

Took some time until big brother Xi in Beijing was able to give his approval.

And talking about the big, socialist brother in the East North: Isn't todays dissolving of an opposition party not just another step leading towards a system which just has one party at all??
But this one of course democratically elected..........

China and India aren't thousands of miles away. It takes me a two hour flight to get here from China.

Correct. And at least China (don't know about India) puts pretty high import duties on imported goods, making the same products in Thailand a bit cheaper.
It also seems to be cheaper for Chinese vacationers to fly a in few hours to Thailand than to spend a vacation in China. When I had a relationship with a Chinese woman (from Wuhan BTW...) we both had a look at Hainan, but already the hotel prices were enormous. My brother, who worked in Shanghai for almost a decade, also told me that his Chinese collegues prefer Thailand over Hainan (or China in general) because of the costs.....
So Thailand can be 100% sure that the Chinese tourists will come again after the virus has gone and its aftermath has been cleaned out.

Buddha days are very important to many people here and there are not many days without booze because of them. If the bar business wants to govern the religion then this is a very bad sign. But the good thing is that they serve the alcohol in coffee cups or even close completely. Perhaps only because of the fear that Buddha might punish them and not because of laws.

So according to your posting its not necessary to ban booze / close nightspots by law. The people would do it voluntarily since they fear the punishment of an allmighty god/ghost (invented by very clever people a long time ago....).
I could easily live with that version because I know that greed is stronger than this fear.....

Little bit related. Right now at Don Mueang

    International. Like a ghost town.

Yes still folk but zero passport control numbers. Boarding gate areas semi empty.

    It's great.

Lets hope it stays that way at least until the end of March.......
I'd love to have a vacation in Pattaya without roads congested by coaches and sidewalks blocked by Chinese "FITs" waiting for their ride to Swampy.

Perhaps we could also get rid of the Buddha days bar closures. Especially when they fall on a weekend.

On the last Buddha day the village I live in had a big party with music and the local mom and pop shops selling beer like crazy.

Meanwhile all the farrang bars were closed.

Is it only foreigners who have to respect Buddha days?

No need to get rid of those Buddah days.
But the government should not ban the sale of booze and/or the order the closure of night spots.
If a bar owner or a bar girl wants to pray to those man made gods and ghosts they can do so. I have no problem with voluntary bar closures when the owner went to a temple to pray or celebrate a special religious day.
But please leave that decision to the people!
