  1. I think Abhisit looks really cute when he stands his ground.^^

I just hope he can find a balanced compromise that lets the Reds march off home feeling they've made their point re; the need for further rural infrastructure investment, without anybody from either side of the discussion being injured or worse. I bet he feels like a trapeze walker right now. Looking at this from abroad & as a foreigner, it is obvious that all this money & energy being wasted in marching and waving photos of a fallen dictator around, and on the other side, the wasted resources of trying to securely monitor it all, it is a huge waste of resources and energy in a poor country which is having serious drought problems. All this energy,on both sides, could have been better spent trying to minimise the damage the drought is & will cause.

Ahhh yes but this would need people here to stop only thinking of themselves...an impossible task from what I have seen here and really anywhere else too. The selfish gene is too strong to resist!

  2. Not surprised. A desperate man.

Oh please, the desperate man is Abhisit!

It's easier for those in power and barely holding on to make such false accusations.

Do you seriously think someone with Thaksin's connections would do it with such lack of discretion.

The Democrats attempts to arrest the guy has proven what lame ducks they are....the international community and interpol are just ignoring their "requests"....all foreign investors (not expats living in thailand and playing politics they have no vote in) just want the mess to go away so everyone (thais, foreign investors) can go on with life and have Thailand be the fast grower in SE Asia once again.

The idiots that started the Thaksin coup destroyed that growth and everyone from the average Thai to foreginer corps to foreigners with litigimate (and even illegitimate) investments in Siam have been hurt......the man's politics were populist and maybe it wasn't good for the country in the long long term, but all was going well for everyone until that coup....give it ten years and the moronic leaders of the coup and the yellow shirts will be seen for what they are....the corrupt old guard that tried to hold on to power when the corrupt new guard that wanted to move to free markets threatened them.

Just let it all go away and let the country move on....all these stupid court trials are politicized and will just keep the Thai economy in crap city.

hmmmmm I seem to remember (under Thaksin) some seriously stupid restrictions placed on foreign investment monies coming into Thailand (due, supposedly to baht manipulation) which was quickly changed when the Thai stock exchange dropped by 16% overnight. I also think you need to factor in that Thailand (and Thaksin) were riding the world economic boom at the time and Thaksin's government happened to be ousted prior to the world’s financial market crash which affected just about every country on the planet. Thus I think it a little unfair to lay all the blame for Thailand’s current economic woes at the doorstep of the current government. The airport sit-in, can however be laid at their doorstep and certainly had a negative effect on the worsening Thai economy at the time. This of course is purely my own perspective and just a different one.

  3. YES,,, take these <deleted> once and for all and do whatever they deserve.

me for one is only positive over the police that are picking up all these Britons,

Europeans, Americans and Aussies.... that are having a bad impact for the rest

of us falangs here in Thailand.

    Glegolo

I suspect there are similar undesirables from other asian countries hiding out here who are also farang but blend it easier and certainly dont advertise themselves like this gentleman. Intelligence...either you have it or you don't.

  4. "Where does the money come from?" In general from idiots with more money than sense who think (95% of the time) that they can profitably run a bar in Pattaya or Bangkok.

"Where does the money go?" Key money for bar to start, brown envelopes to the BIB, health inspectors etc with any left stolen by staff.

    Mugs game.

    indeed

  5. Its about time the Thais were able to decide for themselves. I disagree to most of this and I have been married to a thai for 6 years.

Visas have been mis-used for many years. Retirement visas should be limited to the age of the expats pension age, eg UK at 65. You cannot be retired at 59, just escaping into another country for whatever reasons because you have nothing to do in your own country.

The other visas like teaching should be contracted for term times or for the academic year. It is strange that none of these teaching expat experts return to there country and sit in Thailand forever. Surely they go home to see they family or is it they dare not go home and there family have to come to Thailand to see them.

Also in the UK now we have gone to a points system for work permits. I dont see lots of Thais getting in to the UK through method. Why cannot Thais do the same and let people in on a similar system.

Really? I was retired at 38. Its very possible to be retired at an age lower than 59. I know plenty of people in this category.

  6. Please, stop picking on Thai women.

All the bad things said about them are true. But what about our stinking West?

The institution of marriage has outlived itself. 'Until the death us part' means now until one of two wants a divorce. But this is not a real problem. The real problems are many. And cut very deep. Women marry for money, security, family. Men marry for 'love', or rather lust. Women think with their heads, men - with their balls. And pay for this later.

There is no equality (never has been). Legally, women have more rights. Children are always awarded to them. Why? Houses are coming with the children. Sounds fair,... but how many of these are your own? Women have sex for better offspring. How many husbands do fit this bill genetically?

Men can not be, do or feel the same way. This is a biological fact. A man must feel 'lust' and have an erection. A woman does not. This explains why there are so many marriages for money, with statistics favouring women.

Anything else is crap, based on personal experiences, whether good or bad. :D

Can this situation be changed? Not the physiological aspects. The social ones? Perhaps. Introduce Marriage licencing. Valid for, say, 3 years. Renewable only upon both parties application. Remove children from the divorce disputes, by making all offspring of broken marriages wards of state. Introduce compulsory fair prenaptual contracts (maintaining 'status quo' at the point of marriage). And no maintenance to either party....

Questions. 1. How many people will want to marry on these conditions?

    2. Do YOU want such changes?

    3. What do the unemployed lawyers and judges do?

:):D:D To make this really short: REMOVE MONEY FROM SEX ISSUES!

    Right on!

  7. The suspects are British national Ahoor Rambarak Fath, 45, and Swedish woman Masobukwe Moiseng Patricia Segage, 45

Yeah they really sound like British and Swedish names, more likely Middle eastern and African I would also be checking the validity of their ID docs. If they are legitimate passport holders shame on those countries for having such lax immigration laws! Britain is a far bigger haven for criminals than Thailand!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes sounds that they would come from arab countries and Africa country of some sort. Whatever citizenship they are holding. I would never call them British and Swedish.....

    Glegolo

Oh dear. The Swedish Miss World 2000 representative was a certain Ida Sofia Manneh and their representative in the Miss Universe 2002 pageant was a Malou Hansson. They were both born in Sweden and you can google their images.

There's just no allowing for narrow mindedness these days eh? There's hope though; I think the BNP are still recruiting.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Tonto Goldberg MacPherson

Oh Dear indeed, try googling Segage and see how many Swedish hits you get! Hannson is clearly Swedish. Yes I can just imagine two blonde and blue eyed Swedes discussing what to call their new born daughter and coming up with Masobukwe Moiseng Patricia Segage...jeez and I'm narrow minded.

  9. I had an interesting conversation with some friends the other day and during the conversation was told that American citizens can own land in Thailand. I was amazed as every website or property agent I had ever spoken too had categorically stated that foriegners cannot own land in Thailand in their own personal names. I have since done a search and various websites and other forums and what I can gather is that a treaty known as the "Thai Amity Treaty of 1968" between Thailand and the USA includes amoungst other things that US citizens have the right to own land in Thailand. However, there were various responses to this which added that it applies only to American corporations only, or yes it does apply to individuals but when you approach lawyers etc for clarification then it is not possible for any foriegner US included to own land etc etc. As usual there is never a clear cut answer and of course I could not find any responses from any US individual claiming to currently own land in his or hers own personal name due to this treaty. Can anyone substantiate this claim backed up with evidence or lay it to rest. BTW im not a US citizen nor intend to become one.
