  1. What makes you think the police aren't redshirt supporters?

Chiang Mai is a rebel stronghold.

It only appears to be foreigners in CM who think the redshirts are wrong.

When/If the redshirts win, lets hope they don't throw all foreigners out of the country because some foreigners can't control their mouths.

    Good post.

Wouldn`t say that all Thais in Chiang Mai are red shirt supporters, but certainly the overwhelming majority.

I couldn’t give a rat’s arse who gets in here.

I don’t give a toss who’s running the show providing my family and I can continue to plod along in Thailand in peace and tranquillity.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but until the Thai powers that be give me some form of real immigration status, rather than being just a glorified tourist that can be thrown out the Kingdom at a moments notice, than I shall stay neutral, keep a low profile and not openly express my political views in this foreign land where I have no status and not considered as a part of Thai society, whatsoever.

Farangs that get intentionally involved within this country’s turmoil are fools or Thai wanabe hopefuls.

  2. With a curfew, I think I'm going to have a very hard time spending money. Got a couple thousand baht, and at this rate this will last me a month. :)

As I said a dozen times already, there is no curfew in Chiang Mai.

There are a lot of sources that dispute this including directives from CRES, the radio and the TV. Who to believe? unsure.gif

One way to find out is to go walk about in Chiang Mai city after 8.00pm and see if anyone tries to shoot you or not.

Otherwise, my money`s on the official Thai Government statements made on Thai TV and the police information given to us at two Chiang Mai police stations.

  3. With a curfew, I think I'm going to have a very hard time spending money. Got a couple thousand baht, and at this rate this will last me a month. :)

As I said a dozen times already, there is no curfew in Chiang Mai.

Certain emergency laws have been put into place, but not a full blown curfew.

This has been confirmed to us by the police and also annouced on the Thai TV channels.

  4. Please stop calling those fat guys with tight brown shirts "police", because is insulting for the brave people around the world doing a real police job.

    :)

We shouldn’t blame the individual policeman, but his leadership.

A Thai policeman is like a headless chicken, blind, no guidance and doesn’t know which direction to proceed.

This seems to be the case for all the Government institutions in Thailand.

  5. Just been watching Thai channel 9 with Mrs BWM..

At the bottom of the screen it has rolling text news.

    Official Government statement:

    Bangkok - Curfew 8.00pm to 6.00am.

Chiang Mai - Emergency laws imposed meaning, clearing and closing of large buildings, no gathering of large groups or meetings.

  6. A night out, that's eating in a restaurant, some drinks, trying the bar scene or having a soapy massage, can cost you up to 5000 baht in Chiang Mai.

wow.....you must be having some epic nights. Even if for some reason i had to pay for a girl it would never cost me that much. i don't think i've ever spent more than 1000 baht on a night out.

    Ok, great.

If you can get me a night out, that`s with the drinks, restaurant and lady thrown in all for 1000 baht inclusive in Chiang Mai, I will pay for you as well. Because All that for the price of 1000 baht sounds like a bargain to me.

  7. UPDATE:

My wife just this minute phoned Hang Dong police Station.

They confirmed there is no curfew in Chiang Mai, only emergency precautions in force which means, no large group gatherings/meetings and the closing of certain big buildings for safety reasons, in case of bombings etc.

  8. For wine, women and song, Chiang Mai is extremely limited. Used to be fun 10 or so years, but that`s all changed.

No it hasn't. You were just fresher to the whole scene back then. Objectively, it's expanded in every way both in size and alternative options, and new arrivals are enjoying themselves just as much as you did, then.

Need I mention IanForbes again? He's doing what you did, presumably, 10 years ago, and enjoying it every bit as much as you did. I hope one thing though, that IF he gets jaded in 10 years I hope I'm not having this discussion with him, too.

In the bars you have to go through the bar rituals, that includes buying drinks, bar fines etc.

Which.. was... radically different 10 years ago, when smiling, selfless GoodThaiGirls bought you drinks and chipped in a couple baht for the privilege to explore your magnificent hotel room? :)

Than we have the soapy massage places. These are in no shape or form comparable with the soapy massages in Bangkok or Pattaya and can be a rip-off for the naive first timers.

Completely unheard of 10 years ago, or? :D A friend of mine got ripped off in a Bangkok parlour in 1976. His friends were telling him things were so much better 10 years before that. :D

    Oh, yes it has!

As I said, it`s either the bar scene or soapy massage. What you quote is exactly what I have been saying.

Some folks may be enjoying themselves the same as ten years ago, but I bet it`s costing them a lot more for a lot less.

If you know better for adult entertainment scene other than the expensive bars and massages, please enlighten us?

  9. For wine, women and song, Chiang Mai is extremely limited. Used to be fun 10 or so years, but that`s all changed.

If your looking for some short term female company, it`s either the bar scene or the soapy massage places.

In the bars you have to go through the bar rituals, that includes buying drinks, bar fines etc.

Than we have the soapy massage places. These are in no shape or form comparable with the soapy massages in Bangkok or Pattaya and can be a rip-off for the naive first timers.

A night out, that’s eating in a restaurant, some drinks, trying the bar scene or having a soapy massage, can cost you up to 5000 baht in Chiang Mai.

And as I said, night entertainments here are extremely limited and probably more expensive than in Bangkok and other Thai tourist destinations.

Other types of adult entertainment venues in Chiang Mai no longer exist and were levelled years ago.

As for Chiang Rai, if you fancy a quite relaxing few days away, a bit of trekking, mountain views and take in a few temples, than Chiang Rai is the place for you. Wine, women and song in that area are practically non-existent.

If you prefer the night scene, drinks, laughs with a little debauchery thrown in, than go south young man.

  10. Sounds like the real deal, although it does read like a magazine advertisement with all the good reviews.

Problem is that with the diabolical exchange rates at the moment, it`s going to be good old fashion home cooking for the time being and I suspect that many of us are in the same situation.

  11. After all your reasons not to stay - it's still better than the UK.

    Live your dreams.

    NormanW.

    Same for me.

One man’s meat is another man’s poison, it`s all down to preference.

For many who move here solely for the girls, are going to be disappointed.

Over the last 10 years, women have become the most expensive commodity here in Thailand, especially for the middle aged and elderly Farangs. So if you have the money and lots of it, ENJOY.

If you’re on a regular pension or mediocre sort of income, this will afford you a dog or a cat as a permanent companion.

  12. hey TV's "Toxic little dirty water" supporters

    where are you now?

you are all acting like cowards.... like your big daddy hero.... shopping for purses now

you all make me want to puke :)

i dont know who is lower really him or you?

why dont u go join him and leave Thailand

your acting like bullies and cowards the lot of you

You`re strange and twisted, but I like you.

  13. He was in Paris last Saturday, in a Louis Vioutton shop buying his daughter an expensive handbag while his followers were on the streets.

What about his boast 'to come back when the first bullet is fired'?post-55921-1274145786_thumb.jpg

How do we know this photo is for real and taken in Paris?

More rumours and crap being passed around the Internet, perhaps?

  14. Think it`s illegal for a Farang to do hairdressing in Thailand?

    So no point in searching.

Best to seek out a Thai hairdresser that have alot of Farang customers.

Where I live there is this nice young Thai lady hairdresser. She does an excellent job, hairdressing as well.

Cut, wash, shampoo and blow, all in, for 60 baht.

  15. The OP is another Farang who has been brainwashed by the hyped up reports of the Western media and looking in from the outside over the garden wall.

It`s really not as bad as all that, and believe this or not, we are still managing to live normal lives trouble free from any violence.

Anyway, no problem for me, as I have a Thai wife. I`ll send her out first to deal with the attackers, while I finish my beer.

  16. They asked me to clean it up....they have to be joking. This condo doesn't allow dogs...and now I hear our security cameras did not work!

The condoms appear to have been filled with some fetid substance and tied at one end.

These are not regular left over used condoms, but seem to have been deliberately placed in that area to offend.

Maybe you have upset someone or that for some reason there is a grievance towards you.

If your ownership of the business is above board, than bring in the police.

  17. I suppose Thailand can kiss it`s tourist industry, goodbye.

This is going to affect ex-pat businesses such as resturants and bars, plus Thai owned establishments that mainly deal in the Farang market, massage parlours and so on. Maybe good for some of us as these places start becoming bargain basements.

And with the crap bank exchange rates, I can forecast that many ex-pat businesses will go down.

  18. I know from experience that she will need to show a reference letter from her employer, a minimum of 6 months payslips dating back 6 months from her visa application, plus a bank account book again dating back 6 months prior to her visa application in her name that shows money going in and living expenses coming out.

This is proof that she is actually employed, is earning a wage and has a job to return to.

If not possible, you have big problems and the odds are that the visa application will not be successful.

If this girl is not employed, how has she been supporting herself over the last 12 months? These are the questions that will be asked, so be prepared with some credible answers backed up with documental proof.

Or: if your girlfriend is in study, college, uni etc, than proof of her attendance and how she can drop out for 6 months will suffice.

  19. Yep, it's hot and dispite what Ulysis G says.....the locals all agree that it is the hottest they have felt it. In the 10+ yrs that I've been here, I can say that this is for sure the HOTTEST I have ever experienced [in my life].

Maybe the reason Ulysis G doesn`t feel the heat like most of us, because he`s a cool guy anyway and as for the arrival of the rains in June, I`ll drink to that.
