The Cambodian visa on arrival takes a full page (plus the entry and departure stamps, of course). Depending on the border crossing used, you might  be able to use a Cambodian eVisa, applied for online in advance. This only uses about half a page, as I recall. Just to repeat myself, if planning to use an eVisa, ensure you are using a border crossing that allows them.

Thanks for the clarification Tim,  looks like Malaysia is the only option for visa runs when short on pages.

  2. Just an update, applied for visa on 28th August. Very busy approximately 400 people that morning, mainly Pattaya visa groups.  No new requiremnets, no need to show ticket out of Thailand (unlike Penang), no proof of funds.Plenty of colourfull characters applying without issue for visa, tattoos on face, people drunk at the consulate, no problem.

2 hours queing on Monday and maybe 1:30 Tuesday, I should have went later they were calling numbers in order.

For the independent traveler Vientiane is a pleasent place to spend a few days. lots of nice bars and restaurants.

    The only negatives are:

1 Full page entry stamp for Laos in your passport.

    2 Taxis are relatively expensive

    Cheers

  3. Fredrik, no minimun stay is required but minimum of three nights is required to get a tourist visa. For example arrive Monday, Apply Tuesday, Collect next day in afternoon is always the scenario.

Things to remember now some embassies/consulates are asking for a flight out of Thailand. Also on arrival some people have been asked for proof of funds on arrival so good idea to arrive with 20000 baht in cash.

In North Thailand you can currently go to Mae Sai border crossing exit and re-enter immediately and receive 30 days which can be extended by 30 days. You are allowed to do this twice a year.

    Cheers

  4. I am currently in Vientiane (Laos). Yesterday I successfully obtained my ED visa for Thailand, based in Chiang Mai Ill be attending hand to hand combat

school for fours a week. Visa and school fees cost 33000 baht. This is not including the trip to Laos, the actual Ed application at the Thai consulate costs 2000 baht. When I return to CM the school can apparently turn the 3 month ED visa into a 1 year visa which is renwable every year.

Outside the embassy in Vientiane i paid 100 baht for a someone to fill out my ED form. He then said he could take care of the whole application for 4000 baht including the 2000 baht fee. This was a complete waste of money because I still queued with everyone else. My paperwork was all in order from the school so I shouldn't have bothered. All these people do is make you think they will guarantee you get your visa because they have contacts inside but in reality they don't. Never mind 2000 baht lesson learned, not the end of the world.

They are only issuing single entry tourist visas now but this is also a good option, spoke to a few people whilst waiting in line and seems to be an easy process.

As for Vientiane, its an okay place to spend a couple of days, unfortunately I came for four days. The METV visa is still the best option for a 6 month stay if you are in your home country and meet the criteria. When I take into consideration the cost of flights to Laos, school that I'm not interested in etc its well over 50000 baht already.

Just my experience and opinion, everybody else will have different variables.

  5. Hi,

I will be coming to CM on the 14th November for two weeks with the main purpose of cycling. I would like to stay outside the moat

close to the Nimman area, budget around 1000 baht a night.

Looking for: WI-FI, basic cooking facilities, quiet location but close to the cafes/ restaurants. In a dream world would have facility to clean bike but this is not essential.

    Thanks

    Jon

  6. Hi,

I will arrive back in Samui on the 10th of December. Im looking for advice on any decent offroad routes around Samui.

Last time I did the Maenam Soi 5 over to Lamai but just stuck to the concrete road.

Anyboy got any advice or even better anybody care to meet up for a bit of biking? I am not that experienced offroad but have a good level

    of cycling fitness.

    Cheers

    Jon

  7. Thanks for the advice guys some good info there,I'll get the stool test down at BPH. I know they will be dieing to perfom endoscopy in order to bump up the price but I think it best to explore the other options first.

I do have a decent diet, i was running half marathons before this happened and have no family history of bowel disorder.

It sounds bad but I hope it is a parasite that the blood test did not pick up rather than something chronic.

Hopefully BPH can sort me out, they always get mixed review.

  8. For the last 8 weeks I have been suffering from diarrhea almost every day, mild upset stomach and

gas. It has prevailed every day some days have been worse than others with varying symptoms. Ive been going to the toilet up to 7 times a day.

Obviousely this is causing me stress but apart from that I feel fine I am not dehydrated or fatigued. I was prescribed Metronidazole but this not help.

Can anyone advise a good gastrologist preferabely in Pattaya but Bangkok is okay. Im hoping it is some

sort of parasite that can be treated rather than something chronic like IBS.

Is there such a thing as an IBS specialist in Thailand? I would think this disease is more associated with

    Westerners.

    Thanks

    Jon

  9. I am planning to cycle from Pattaya to Koh Chang around the 8th of January. I will be using a full suspension Trek MTB not the lightest bike but

quite comfortable. I know the distance is around 250 KM so I will do it in 2 or 3 days. The plan is to stay in Koh Chang a 2-3 nights then get a

    taxi/mini-van back to pattaya.

Firstly would anybody like to join me? I am a 28 yr old Scottish male, I am quite fit but newish to cycling. For me the distance wont be the problem,

however Im sure I will have a very sore bottom at the end. I will be cycling at a very moderate pace enjoying the scenery and stoping at any points

    of interest.

Secondly does anyone have advice on what route to take, guesthouse/hotels to overnight in along the way.

    Cheers

    Jon
