  1. Looking for a present, Prefer female and old enough to be spayed. Tried looking at Soi Bhuakhow Market today but the few they had were "Persian breed" and we just want a regular cute little cat.

  2. I know it is required for cars "older than 7 years." My car is a 2008, So when I go this month to pay tax and registration is it considered 7 years old or "older" than 7 years. In other words, will I need the inspection this year or next year?

  3. I also live on the west side and it was miserable. the whole day my download speed was between,1-2 mb. Later in the evening it went up a big, but I normally am able to get 13-14 speed. I am on the 15mb plan. Even this morning it is between 7-8. During my years in Pattaya I have also had five occasions with no connection for up to 5 days at a time with no "technician" showing up after numerous calls. Every time they do show up, they always start with (your router is bad" or else "phone line your moo ban no good." After I insist neither of those are not the issue, they disappear for an hour and miraculously I am back to 14mb download speed again! Sadly, I think the other providers here are no better.

I have a second place in Bangkok where I am able to get True Cable Internet 18mb for 100 baht less and have had no problems for more than a year. Not available yet where I live in Pattaya but they keep telling me "coming soon" lol

  4. They have a stranglehold in Pattaya. If a regular taxi takes someone from Bangkok to Pattaya, he has to go through the "Mobsters" to pick up a fare returning to Pattaya. He gets a small percentage and they keep the rest. That's why you see hundreds of little stands in Pattaya advertising 900 baht taxis to Bangkok. If a driver picks up his own fare and is "caught" it is very bad news for him.

  5. My two-year card expired in December. I am set up to have the 432 baht a month automatically deducted from my bank.

FYI,as long as you are still listed in the hospital system as eligible (mine is Phayathai in Sriracha), they don't check the card for expiration date.

On another note the medical cards they are now issuing are for 2 years instead of the one year they used to issue

Not trying to incite a pissing contest just stating my experience

Are you Thai or a foreigner?
    American
  6. I can highly recommend Dr. Montien Sirisuntornlak at Phyathai Hospital in Sriracha. He did my hip replacement a year and a half ago and he is well known for his skill level as an orthopedic surgeon along with offering quality patient care. Feel free to contact me. I did a lot of research and met with him several times before making my decision. My recover period for amazingly fast, and I have been pain-free since the procedure.

  7. I saw some today at the roadside on Sukhumvit. Past the floating market towards Ban Amphur, through the next traffic lights, after another 300-400 meters, on the opposite side of the road is a Shell petrol station. Plastic slides etc. for sale on the grass verge next to it.

However, I do not expect that the quality will be any better than the shop on Pattaya Tai.

Also, take a look at Lazada http://www.lazada.co.th/shop-outdoor-toys/ order online, cash on delivery.

Thanks. I will check it out today. Also, Lazada has some great options. I just need to see how reliable they are and if they will assemble outdoor sets if they come in many pieces.

  8. Shop on the corner of Pattaya Tai and the entrance to Duck Square (rear of Big C south) has this sort of thing.

I tried there. They had a choice of two identical slide/swing sets that were molded together, one swing with links so fragile it looked like it couldn't hold more than 10 kilos, and the rest was all bicycles, cars etc. Even though my Thai is fairly decent, they showed no interest in sellling me anything and when I asked if there were other pieces they could get, all I got was a "mai mee..."

  9. I remember there used to be some roadside sellers that had items like swings, slides, playhouses etc just out of town on Sukhumvit. I have been told they can now be found on Hiway 36. Amyone have a clue as to what area, or any other places?

  10. Google maps is not always correct. I've found quite a few errors.

Google maps/directions are often way off here. For example, if you get directions from Big C extra Pattaya Klang to Bumrungrad Hospital, it shows the first choice using Sukhumvit and highway 3 and then a really convoluted heavy traffic route once inside bangkok.

If you choose the Highway 7 option, it says stay on Sukhunvit and pick up Highway 7 in Laem Chabang with the same crazy route inside Bangkok. No matter what options you try, it does not suggest getting on Highway 7 in Pattaya and exiting in Bangkok on Sukhumvit, just two minutes from the Hospital.

  11. There was talk of a monorail doing the route along 2nd road to Tops , left down onto beach road , left before walking st and back to second road.

I think the gentlemen from the songthaew and taxi committee put a stop to that.

The monorail would never have worked from a practical position. The proposed route would have covered approcimately 7,000 meters.

Each station would require stairs and a short platform, requiring 10-15 meters of ground space on Beach Road, Pattaya Tai, Second Road, and Pattaya Klang, removing a lot of currently occupied land. Even if they put in 25 stations, they would be approximately 280 meters apart.. Following that plan, if you were on the ground midway between stations, you would have to walk 140 meters to a station, plus whatever walking distance you may have to walk at the departing station. Practically no Thais would choose to walk that distance if the had the availability of a songtaew at perhaps 1/3 to 1/5 the price that takes them door to door on that route.

Pattaya's year-round population is growing at an amazing rate. Estimates maintain that as of 2010 the number of people in Pattaya ranged between 275,000 to 500,000 depending on the season. Monorails, buses, trolleys are not what needs to be dressed. There is an ever-growing road shortage and that may not have a solution available. You can't build more roads where there is no land. Abd yet they keep building more and more condos and apartments within the same cramped zone because of the cheap money in Thailand these days. One day go boom!

  12. 5555... There were two "definite" projects promised to happen starting December 2013.

    #1- The bullet train

#2- An underpass that would run on Sukhumvit Pattaya Nua to Pattaya Tai

The estimated time was 16 months and would leave one lane open in either direction.

Can you imagine the nightmare that would have created?

The reasoning for underpass rather than overpass was "aesthetics."

I think the projects were to be headed by Basil Fawltey and Homer Simpson...

  13. Why don't you give one or more of those Soi BuaKhao kittens a chance for a better life?

I would if we could have a vet check it first for feline leukemia and other diseases. I know two people who bought there only to discover they were both very sick. One died within a few weeks and the other made it through a year. There are no vaccines or anything a vet can do if they have leukemia. Some can make it 5-6 years but they die a slow and miserable death and vets here won't even do euthanasia .

  14. Just to wanted to point you there. Phil conners needs to get rid of two cats for some personal reason. They come in a package, love each other and are very sweet. I know both cats very well

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Thanks. I saw his post but the Persian is 7 years old...

  15. We want to add a Persian kitty to our family, 8-12 weeks preferable. We are not willing to get one from one of the "markets" like Soi Bhuakow, as they are often mistreated, diseased and they actually drug the kittens and puppies to keep then calm.

Any help for a legitimate source much appreciated.

  16. I am looking for someone with a pickup who will be travelling to Chumphae in the next month. I have a recliner chair I need delivered to my inlaws. No need to go to the village as I will have someone come to town (Tesco Lotus) to make the transfer. I will pay for your gasoline and a bit extra for your trouble.

  17. From where to where? What time?

From Urban Condo (behind The Avenue) to Soi Bongkot between 10 and 11. No stairs on either end. Will be easiest if they meet at my place on Soi Bongkot and I will ride with them to the other place for pickup.

  18. I have to pick up two reclining chairs tomorrow morning. The driving distance will only be a little more than a mile. I have tried calling some of the signs posted around town but they either hang up because my Thai is limited (but not horrible) or they say they will call back and never do. Anyone know someone reliable?

  19. About six weeks ago there was a large "bang" just outside our Mooban on Soi Bongkot. The electricity didn't go out but Sophon Cable did. About an hour later I noticed a Sophon truck was working on the electricity pole just outside the Mooban entrance. The main outlet in our living room came back online, but all the others (downstairs and upstairs remained dead.

I called Sophon and they sent a truck out. They informed me there was no power to any of the other outlets and the problem was in our inside wiring. We were given two choices: They could run new wiring inside the house to all the outlets at 420 baht each, but that would mean cables all over the house and up the stairs, or they said we would have to hire an electrician to come in and do rewiring in the walls. It does seem an unlikely coincidence that the problem is unrelated to to the initial outside problem, but our choices are to pay for repairs or go without any TV in the bedrooms or downstairs office.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a quality electrician?

  20. I live in Pattaya and just had hip replacement surgery so I am looking for a decent pool where I can exercise 3-4 times a week. I contacted Mike Shopping Mall as they have a rooftop pool but they refused to negotiate a monthly rate so I would have to pay their daily rate and they don't open until 11 a.m. so I could never go in the morning.

Does anyone know any hotels etc with fair size pools that offer this. I also tried Tonys but they said I would have to become a full member.

  21. Has anyone had the Makoplasty done? It is a relatively new procedure that provides the suregeon with a robotic arm. The "hype" is that it provides more accuracy, less cutting, and a faster recovery. but I have not been able to find much statistical evidence that it is better than the minimally invasice surfery. Bumrungrad is the only hospital in Thailand using it, as they sent a team to the USA for training.

The total cost is a little over 600,000 baht with all the "extras." I can have the surgery done in Bangkok or Pattaya as I have aftercare setup in both places, so I am looking for surgeoon/hospital recommendations. I qualify for social medicine at Phayathai Hospital in Sriracha, but was told the waiting time would be minimum one year and I don't think I can hold out that long because of the increased pain and lack of mobility.

Would love to chat with any recent patients regarding your experience.

  22. Just hire the next baht bus that drives past your gate. That's how most Thais move house. The driver will help you. Max 500B.

Need two fairly strong guys. I am decrepit and arthritic 555

  23. I am trying to find a pickup with two guys who can move a couple of items (fridge, washing machine) from jomtien to central pattaya. No stairs involved. Any suggestions on where to find and what i should offer
