  1. I am moving to Pattaya in three week and decided to order True internet. I went to their online site and found a way to send email with phone number to order. Within a couple of days I received a call from them and gave them all my information. The woman said she would verify everything and get back to me within a week to set up installation date for phone line etc.

Two days ago I received a call from someone else who spoke almost no English and he asked me all the same questions, then said they would have to check if service was available. He then hung up. I could not contact the woman who took the initial information because it showed as a "private number" on my phone.

I am now stuck. Do I simply wait and hope that I will eventually receive another call, or is there an actual True shop in Pattaya where I can place my order in person?

  2. Thanks,

I have no idea if it is the hacked version. I found it in rapidshare search.

The more convenient method would be placing GMAPSUPP.IMG within \Garmin folder of an SD card. Just simply create a New Folder at the root directory of the data card and rename it as GARMIN, and copy and paste GMAPSUPP.IMG into it. Then slot it in into device. Thereafter, you need to disable the older City Navigator map and enable Thailand Street Map at Map Info. A point to note that this map is originally locked and can only be used with the correct codes meant for the specific device Unit ID or data Card ID. If the one you're having now is the unlocked (hacked) version, then there would be no problem, but if it's a locked map, then you will need to have the correct codes for the map to work, or you'll get the "Can't unlock map..." message when booting up.
  3. I went to the Yamaha deale. I liked the Fino Disco because of the black and white design but I did NOT like the choice or orange or green panels on it. After talking to the sales person they quoted 43,000 for the Green one and said for 600 baht more they would switch out the green panels for white so the bike will be all black and white.

The saled girl then suggested I buy the orange one, as they are selling it for 1,000 less because nobody seems to want the ugly color, and they will still switch it all to black and white for total cost of 42,600 (with the free helmet, bag, and shirt.

    Very friendly service too!!!

Thank you for that link Poorsucker.
We bought a Fino from the dealer next to KSG and they were extremely helpful offering to get the colour we wanted within a week then talked another buyer into waiting a week so we could take one that day

bluweyze, can i ask when you went in please. I went in yesterday and today and both times asked if i could order a different colour than the two 2009 models they have available. Both assistants told me only these two colours are available for the platinum range (or other ranges). I asked if any other showrooms can get me another colour, and was told that all the showrooms in Thailand all stock the same colour range. The colour that you wanted, was it in the new range, or an older colour model?

    Thanks.

  4. Oh that is just sad. I am trying to avoid paying through the nose for True as I will only be in Pattaya 3 days a week...

I'll give it a shot.......if I forget something, 'colleagues' will complete it:

    Sophon:

    Thai 1 up to 11

    DMC

    BVN

    DW

    TV 5 - Asia

    CCTV

    BBC-Asia

    Eurosport

    2 or 3 Russian Channels

2 or 3 English spoken movie channels (mostly cheap copies)

    2 korean channels

    Australia Network

    MTV Thailand

    1 or 2 Indian channels

    2 Discovery-look-a-like programs (Thai spoken)

    there's more.......

    BTV:

similar, but some English spoken moviechannels aren't included

    TMN:

    no experience

  5. I will be on the west side in South Pattaya off 3rd Road.

First you need to check that wherever you intend moving to has the service available as not all areas are served by cable TV.

Banglamung is what it says it is..................Banglamung, which is not Pattaya!!

Also give consideration to TMN cable TV.

All three are available on the East side of the Sukhumvit highway.

  6. Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the english speaking channels on Sophon or Banglamung Cable?

Am moving soon and don't want to get Truevisions because the only package I would get would be Silver which doesn't include any news channels!

  7. I asked about there service in Tesco and was told no can do we dont service that area (soi arunathai) :D

Mate of mine lives at Nirun (which is on Soi Arunothai) and has True internet. On asking at Tesco a 2nd friend was told no service at Nirun. When he pressed the issue she changed the answer to a "yes" :) Avoid Tesco and just telephone your order.

A shame the phone number posted was removed. If anyone wrote it down please send me a PM.. Thanks

  8. No need to go into the office if you dont want to, Ring Kookie on <snip> she will come to you with the paperwork.

As above, 2 to 3 days to be online, no need for a telephone line as they run their own, but if you already have a wall mount socket that is wired to the outside of your house (but not connected to the telephone grid) ask them to connect into it, otherwise they will drill a hole in your ceiling and drop the new wiring down the wall.....looks kinda ugly.

Thanks - That's great help. There is already a phone jack in the room where I will put my computer so it should be simple. Will most likely go with the 5 meg premium package. I can't imagine that the 8 meg package really delivers that speed here in Thailand!

  9. I have decided to go with True Internet in my new place. Anyone know where the office is in Pattaya to apply for service?

The house is in town but no phone service yet. How long will it most likely take from order to being online?

  10. I signed up for 3BB Premier in Sriracha. It took them two weeks to get it working at all after they initially set it up. Since then (three months ago) service has dropped on four occasions for a day or longer. Each time I call they tell me they have to contact a technician in the area who will call me back within an hour. On each occasion I received no call back and had to repeat the process the next day until they would finally get someone available who spoke not a word of English.

I received this month's bill a week ago and was billed twice for the same month. I went to the local office, which is nothing more than a payment counter. They tried to contact someone in Bangkok and after 45 minutes told me they would get it straightened out and call me that afternoon.

Three days later and no call back. I returned to the service office and the girl acted like I had never been there.

Service went out again last night so I decided I would give TOT a try as it is the only other provider here.

Now I find out that if I cancel 3BB I have to pay a 4500- baht cancellation fee.

    Amazing Thailand...

  11. Is it for Loy Kratong? I live miles from Suk but have also heard this sort of thing but only for the last few days. Hopefully it will be over tomorrow.

Well it is much worse today. I am amazed the boat taxi workers drivers don't come after the kids. I guess it will come to a halt one day when a passenger in the boats gets blinded or someone throws one of the kids in the klong.

  12. Strange, I've been hearing it too, but I'm on Soi 1, didn't know who/what it was.

I am also on Soi 1. From my balcony I can sometimes see them. The BIB just laughed when I tried to complain and told me to ignore it.

They are firing them off right now in rapid order!

  13. For the past couple of months a small group of Thai teens have been setting off cherry bombs/firecracker next to the klong on Soi 3/Sukhumvit. Some days it goes on for 6-8 hours and into the night. They sometimes even throw them near the boats as they pass. While many people are fed up with the noise, it seems there is nothing that can be done.

  14. Just had my first experience with Sriracha office after seven years of reporting in Bangkok.

What a surprise! First I was able to park right in front of the office. Walked inside and within a minute had an immigration officer ask if I needed help. Went right over to a desk (I always come with the form already filled out) and was done in less than two minutes. I even got a smile and a friendly reminder of when my next reporting was due.

    Simply amazing!

  15. Mayor Chatchai Timkrajang said users could access the wireless Internet service on the beach free of charge for two hours at a time. The service features a connection speed of 512 kilobits per second.

There are 20,000 residents in Sri Racha district, which welcomes 40,000 tourists a year. The municipality awarded a three-year contract to TOT to install the wireless system for Bt4.5 million and will pay about Bt80,000 a month for the service.

Chatchai said the service would help the municipality attract tourists and distinguish it from other tourism destinations.

The partnership between the municipality and TOT is also in line with TOT's "Wi-Fi on the Beach" project aimed at carpeting the country's major beaches with wireless Internet.

TOT recently launched the service on Pattaya's beaches, but users must buy TOT Internet cards to access it. This will generate an estimated Bt100,000 in revenue for the state agency. TOT has targeted 100,000 broadband-Internet subscribers along the Eastern Seaboard this year, up from 70,000 now. It also plans to have 1 million subscribers nationwide this year, up from 700,000 now.

Senior executive vice president Wichien Naksrinual said TOT would approach other municipalities about providing wireless broadband Internet on the Sri Racha model as part of its efforts to boost its wireless-broadband revenue.

Since when is there a "beach" in Sriracha? Ocean -- yes, but beach where you can sit and relax??? never seen it!

  16. There are two shops I found in Pantip on third floor (not sure of names) where they had it yesterday for 11,900 without an OS, but for 100 baht they would load windows xp (pirated of course) on it and make sure it was activated. Otherwise they want 13,900 for original XP.

    Hey guys,

I would like to buy a Samsung NC10 Netbook in Bangkok these days. I know from other threads that there were some nice promotions in the past, including a RAM upgrade to 2 GB as well as a external DVD writer and some other small stuff.

Does anybody know if there is a good promotion out there right now?

    Cheers,

    Mike
