  1. Thanks to all your advice my wife was granted a settlement visa for the uk in April 2011 and the time is coming now for it to expire.

Since her arrival here she has been in full time employment as assistant manager in a restaurant, gained a uk driving licence and paid her way in taxes of course. Also her English is near perfect.

Just looking at the next step as we have heard mixed opinions about the change in law and needing to do another English test and also the life in uk test?

Please could you clarify this for us as we need to start preparing now as her visa expires in July.

We look forward to any feedback given and thank you in advance.

  2. Hi All

The past couple of years have flew by and the time is now coming where we need to think about the next step of our life.

We have been married 2 happy years in January and my wife's settlement visa expires in July next year. She arrived in the uk on April 20th 2011 and wondered what is the next step to take for her to stay here as we are not ready to move to Thailand for another 5-10 years yet.

I have read about indefinite leave to remain somewhere and is that the next step before she can become british citizen after taking a test and so on and so forth.

This forum was so informative and have us the knowledge we needed for our smooth successfull application.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Dom

  3. My wife and i are wishing to travel to France for a trip but i cant seem to find the cost of the visa on the application site. A previous post suggests that it may be free if we are married??

My wife has a settlement visa for here in the uk at the moment. Can i get some clarification on this matter please?

    Kind Regards

  4. Can't believe your still waiting after more than 8 weeks John.

tell me about it pal, at least we know it is not just us, the girls on ladyinter who put in around us are still there too lol, but even the visit visas are taking a long time, im humming and harring weather to book our flights on the 27th or not, found some decent deals, but the way its going i just dont know what to do for the best? you not heard owt yet?

Im sure you will hear something soon john, sorry to hear about your long wait and we

feel lucky after recieving ours in 3 weeks 5 days. You will be together soon no doubt!

Its well worth the wait and things are going great here for us,will check in to see your status soon.

    Regards

  5. What do you mean by 'certifying' your marriage certificate?

If you mean the translation, then the agency that translated it (usually) would have stamped and signed it as a true translation. This is acceptable in the UK, there is no need for further certification of the translation by the Thai MFA or anyone else.

As for making everything legal and correct; if the marriage is legal and correct in Thailand, then it is also legal and correct in the UK. The original Thai marriage certificate is proof of this (though a translation will obviously be useful).

    Thanks 7by7.

What the officer at the Amphur office in Bang Rak said was that we should go to the MFA to get the marriage certificate stamped to make it a legal document. we did not do this as it was not needed for our Settlement application but we are thinkin now that the marriage is not legal as we did not get the certificate stamped in the first instance.

Obviously we wish it to be legal annd will also help with life here in the uk with doctors and and other things.

Have i missed something? sorry if this is the case.

    Kind regards

  6. Hi there

Does anybody know the procedure please for certifying our marriage certificate in th UK. We live in Reading.

We did not have time to go to the MFA in Bangkok before we submitted our visa application so will need to do now we are both here together in the UK. Just to make sure everything is legal and correct.

Her flight is now booked for tuesday the 19th April and i cant explain the feeling after waiting nearly 3 years for our time to arrive and make the correct appl;ication.

    Kind Regards.

  7. Hi All

Yes Yes Yes..... we got the result we deserved and had planned carefully. A great weight feels like it has lifted.

Thanks for all the support and valuable advice you have given me,this forum is knowledge gold.

I will be looking over the forum for next few weeks to see the good news from the members that have supported us with our application.

  8. Hi All

We handed our application in on the 7th March and my wife got the text saying her passport is ready for collection yesterday (the 4th april). Less than a month!!!

we are so nervous as she is going to collect it first thing monday morning. You all the know the feeling though.

With all the good advice you have given on here there is no reason why they should deny us,just praying they dont find one.

Will let you know the outcome monday.

    Kind Regards

  9. Hi there.

There seems to be a contradiction of opinions here as one post says that we need not to get the marriage certificate translated for our application for settlement visa for the UK,but elsewhere it says all supporting documents must be translated, signed and dated by the translator.

Does this also apply to the tambien baan please?

    Regards

  10. Thanks for your advice.

My wife is adament that we should go to the MFA to stamp the marriage certificates for our visa because the guy at Amphur "said so".

If i just include the marriage certificate and the paper that comes with it and the 2 translations to English all be ok yes for our settlement visa?

Its been best part of 4 days running around pulling tickets out of machines so could really do with 1 less visit to the MFA. Stresfull mak mak!

    Kind Regards

  11. Thanks for all your help and advice on this forum.

My final question before we hand our application in is do we need to get our Wedding Certificate and translation back into English stamped by the British Embassy after we have had it translated?

Im thinkin we do but just want to clarify please?

Also what are the times we can hand our visa in on a friday morning? Is it similar times as to when you get the affirmation stamped?

A word of advice also to people visiting the MFA for the affirmation to be stamped "GET THERE EARLY" had a nightmare with waiting times yesterday and we arrived at 10am!!! Didnt get the papers back until 17:00 and that was the express service. The place was packed out. Stressfull day all in all.

Thanks again for all your helpfull advice and i will keep the forum posted with our application process and result.

    Regards

  12. Hi there

we have everything we need from the embassy and translation to visit the MFA tomorrow morning.

One thing that i am still unclear of after reading all the advice is do we need to get the translated affirmation stamped as well as the original one as it will mean another visit back to the embassy in the morning before we can go to the MFA. Alternatively can we get the translated affirmation stamped at the MFA if needed at all.

Kind Regards and thanks in advance for any replies.

  13. Hi All

Could someone please help me and send a working link so that we can print the template for the Affirmation to marry form ? All the links i have wont connect or have been removed for one reason or another?

We have researched and planned for 3 years now and the time for ouir wedding has finally arrive and will be wednesday the 16th Feb (next week):)

Please help us in locating this form.

Can we just collect it from the British embassy personally or must we download it and fill it in prior to our application.

    Kind Regards

  14. Hi There.

I am on the understanding that we must first apply to the Embassy in wireless road for the affadit tomarry before we can continue with the translations, visits to the MFA and all the rest of it.

Do we have to apply in writing or just go in and ask with our relative documents?

We then can collect the papers 24 hours later if i am not mistaken, could someone please clarify this for me?

    Kind Regards

  15. Hi All

My Wife has a bachelors degree for English from Ramkhameng University in 2008.Would this be deemed sufficient for the visa or will she still need to take the required test being introduced in November?

Secondly when should the test be completed in relevance to handing your application folder in? Will it take a few weeks to get the result on paper?

I understand it is a new concept but please any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again

  16. Hi all....

A quick question regarding the settlement visa again, would it be sufficient to show just 4 or 5 months bank statements or is the 6 mandatory?

The reason i say this is that i took out a loan about 5 months ago and i dont want the embassy to think that i took it out just to boost my account?

This is not the case and the money is for something other than that,i would just rather it not be seen entering my account at all? it is only for £7000 so its not a huge amount.

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated indeed.

    Regards

  17. Thanks for the advice.

Secondly there is so many different opinions on what to put all the infomation in regarding folders.

What are the favourite type of folder for this, plastic sleeve inserts?Ring binders?

Some say they will remove all your information before sending to ECO,therefore jumbling everything up?

What are the best methods please in your own opinions?

    Kind Regards

  18. Hi There

I have read a couple of opinions on this now and am just looking for the correct way to do this.

Its for our settlement application and some say you can just sign the passport photocopys yourself and others say you have to get them signed by someone like a lawyer, bank manager, police officer...so on and so forth.

Can anyone clarify this please as i do not really want to have to visit a solicitor or pay if neccessary?

    Many thanks in advance.

  19. Hi

Upon reading numerous posts about the whole application process,i have heard that the embassy will often take many of the files out of the folder you have given them and place them in a folder of there own before sending them. What is the best folder to use for storing everything in so they will not need to touch any of the paperwork and send it as it is?

I have been thinking of a large ring binder style but on second thoughts maybe it is too bulky,i dont know?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot for taking the time to read.
