  1. Hi

Upon reading numerous posts about the whole application process,i have heard that the embassy will often take many of the files out of the folder you have given them and place them in a folder of there own before sending them. What is the best folder to use for storing everything in so they will not need to touch any of the paperwork and send it as it is?

I have been thinking of a large ring binder style but on second thoughts maybe it is too bulky,i dont know?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot for taking the time to read.

  2. I know a Thaigal and I didn't think she would last in Sweden but she has. She is in some village out in the country no car and her hubby works all day. She does spend a bit of time on the phone back to Thailand with my girlfriend. They now have one child and another on the way.

You just never know how it will turn out. What if you hooked up with a girl from London how long would it last? Give it a try , all it will cost is some cash and a hurt heart. It could turn out to be the love of your life.

    My thoughts exactly.....

Good down to earth honest post.

  3. Hi there.

By no means is it easy at all. Its one of the most difficult countries to get visas for, especially for Thais.

You need to be able to support your wife financially and have somewhere for you both to live,be able to prove an ongoing relationship in my opinion for at least a year.

All backed up with pay slips, bank statements,Phone records, emails, tenancy or mortgage agreements.

These are just a few of the requirements,im sure other b/ms will advise you more fully.

    Good luck though mate.

    Regards

  4. Hello there.

Last question i hope now before we apply,we have all the relative paperwork now for our application and i am confident it will be enough evidence to show our 2 year relation in full.

Just been thinking about the cover letter and how important the wording is in this and just how long it should be? Maybe im worrying a little to much about this matter?just looking for some b/ms opinion on this subject and what sort of cover letter you guys submitted with your application?

Thanks once again for all your valuable advice, difficult to gain elsewhere.

    Kind Regards

  5. Hi there.

Just another application question please.Just wanting to know if we will get our folder back with all the information we submitted if for some reason our application is unsuccessfull?

Just worrying that alot of important information will be lost if they decide not to return it?

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

    Regards

  6. There is no obligation under UK law for a wife to take her husband's surname on marriage; so this will not be a problem.

Please can you explain fully about the name chabging as,little confused. After we marry wont it say on our marriage certificate Mrs Davies instead of her family name?

Then if we apply for the visa with her family name the same as it is in her passport will this pose any problems?

Thanks for having the patience to reply.

  7. If you are both going to be living above the restaurant, then I suggest that you get a letter from your employer confirming that you will be living rent free in the flat, who else, if anyone, will be living there, that there is at least one room for the exclusive use of you and your wife and that they have no objections to her living there with you.

If you have moved into your own place by the time of her application, then a copy of the tenancy agreement and a letter from your landlord confirming that she can live there if you rent; or proof of ownership, e.g. a mortgage statement, if you own.

As Sumrit says, it is the registration at the ampur that is the legal marriage in Thailand, and so it is this which is recognised as the legal wedding by the UK.

    Thanks for replying..

we will only become legally married a few days before we submit the application, her passport and ID card will still be in her family name and not yey changed into my name,is this going to cause any issues also? Should we use my surname in the application or hers..im guessing hers as that is what will still be on her passport and id? Sorry for so many questions just want get it right first time.

Thanks once again for your replies.

  8. Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I have gathered numerous information over the last 2 years we have been together and now we feel we are ready and will have the funds also in the next 3 or 4 months to finally appply for her visa.

we have knwn eachother for 2 years had numerous visits 100s of emails.photos, some ncluding my mum visiting my g/fs family in hometown also when we had our engagement last week.I feel confident we have everything we need for a successfull application.

My problem is that i have to move from my home where i have lived for 4 years as the restaurant i work for is opening another site in Reading ,as the Sous chef need to be involved in this,i will live above the restaurant for 3 months to save money as will be rent free, and in october i will look for a small self contained flat for me and my wife when she arrives here hopefully.

I understand that we have to have a self contained flat and this is not a problem,im just thinking that as i would have only been in the property for 1 month is this enough to satisfy the embassy that my intentions are good?obviously i will have the tenancy agreement and numerous references from people and payslips also.Just have some concern over this? Hopfully i need not too?

And secondly my situation is we are engaged and will marry legally in Bkk when i arrive to apply for the visa with her in october time, then in february we willl return to thailand to have the traditional wedding in the village with sinsot and the rest of it,We already have the gold as we engaged with this...6 baht. I will respect her mums decision for allowing her to be with me before the traditional wedding as i know this is not normal procedure but respect her for this as its the culture.

Just worried what the embassy will think as we will only just have married (legally) and not married in the village when we apply for the visa?I have photos of my family there with me meeting her family which im hoping should show the seriousness of our commitment.

We have planned for a long long time for this and i just wish everything to be smooth for us as there is alot of time effort and money in the whole process.

Please please give me your knowledgable opinions on this matter and i look forward to reading some positive (hopefully) replies

    Many thanks once again.

  9. Hi there,we will be staying in Hua Hin for 6 days next week and looking for some hotel advice near the beach for around 1000baht/night range please?

Any input would be grfeatly appreciated as heven,t stayed here before.

    Many thanks.

  10. There is no such license to marry. You need your passport and the Embassy paper that has been translated and registered with the MFA (they put stamps and a registry number on it). You get back the same papers you gave them and they keep a file copy under that registry number that the District Office can confirm.

Thanks for advice.....Once we have been married at the amphur office,we should then take the marriage certificate for translation back to english for the embassy i believe? Thanks again.

  11. The affirmation of freedom to get married will need translating into Thai. With the translation and original, you go to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have it legalised. With the legalised document you then go to any District Office with your girlfriend to get married.

More information in this link to British embassy website.

The link in gotlost's post seems to refer to the UK visa application centre (situated at Regent House, Rajdamri Road, Lumpini) rather than the British embassy which is situated at a different location on Wireless Road.

Hi Thaiphoon..im on the understanding that when you have your affirmation translated and you take to the MFA for your licence to marry you also have to then go and have the licence from the MFA translated into thai also? Could you please confirm fro me please as me and my partner will be going through this process at the end of May?

Many thanks in advance for your opinion.

  12. got my return flight from southall travel for £382 they were better than anything on skyscanner by about £90

Just got exactly the same deal...was it with Kingfisher Airlines?? A highly reputable company with a 5star service:) Certainly cant complain at that price either though.

Southall Travel are always highly competitive:)

  13. Hi there, will be visiting Bkk on the 29th may and was due to stay in khao san area, what with the current situation my g/f said that this is ill advised.

Were happy to pay around 1500 baht a night. Just wondering which areas are safest in Bkk at the moment,if any?

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

  14. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who hates that stuff. If my wife forgets to tell the restaurant NOT to put it in my food, she has to spend 20 minutes picking it out of my dish. I then yell at her if she misses a piece of that revolting stuff.

So surely the taste of it in your dish revolts you and makes it unedible? Just picking the leaves out is irrelevant.

  15. Have a similar question...Can i bring a pack of pumpkin seeds to thailand for my brother in law?He wants to start growing them and asked if i could bring some. I havent even thought this would be a problem until reading this thread, any comments would be welcome.

    Many thanks

    Dom

  16. That's ok. I just wondered where you got it from.

It seems to be something designed for all, rather than UK specific; hence the talk of 30 day visas.

No probs, just another quick question please?

On the visa application it says i must submit a certified copy of my passport pages, how do you go about certifying your passport photocopies?

Sorry for all the daft questions, its just we want to get it right first time and save paying another 600quid to reapply.Probably nearer 700quid ny the time we apply what with the pound sinking like a stone :)

  17. You do not need a visa in order to marry in Thailand; you just need to be in the Kingdom legally (and I'm not 100% sure that is correct!). So the normal 30 day entry stamp as a tourist is enough. It's all I had when I married.

As well as the link to the information from the British embassy I gave earlier, see also this from the Thai embassy in London.

May I ask where you got this information pack from?

Thats good news...the info pack i downloaded somewhere on here i believe 7by7 i will post it for you now.

    Thanks for replying

Sorry i cant seem to add sometnig from my document files....p/m me your email i i will send it via there if you wish.

    cheers

  18. To clarify.

In the UK the actual birth certificate is the entry made by the registrar in the registry. The piece of paper one is given is a copy of this entry; hence it is called a certified copy.

The same is true for marriage and death certificates.

By 'original' the embassy mean the original certified copy, not a photocopy of it.

Not sure where you got the 'information pack' you refer to from; but here is the information from the British embassy in Bangkok.

The stamp British citizens, and other nationalities who qualify for the 30 day tourist exemption, have placed in heir passport is not really a 30 day tourist visa; it is an entry stamp. Not every nationality is eligible for this exemption and they would need a visa to enter the Kingdom. Other nationalities don't need a visa at all to enter Thailand as a tourist; ASEAN nationals for example.

So should i apply for a 30day visa from the thai embassy in Hull? Or can i just continue without it and the entry stamp will be enough?
