Find a local shop that sells cases of beer and whiskey. They will sell you the bigger bottles cash and carry. There are bottles bigger than 325ML you can buy them at a wholesale shop that supplies bars and restaurants. Not sure of the size but there are both big and small bottles available from Singha.
Those don't appear to be in Makro's inventory. Any idea of just who/where those larger sizes are to be found where a farang could buy them?
Given that Makro doesn't stock those AFAIK, (just cases and cases of the 325ml bottles), and they certainly sell everything by the case-ful and in bulk size quantities, I'm a bit skeptical...
But I'll ask around...
Most Thai bars use the bigger bottles

Based on the Buddhist calendar.
How is it religious? Songkran is the Thai New YearA Thai friend phoned me to tell me about this story. It is apparently all over the Thai language media. Songkran is a religious festival too. What the behavior by the farang here does is further fuel the stereotype-typical view held by many Thais about the disrespectful and disgusting way foreigners behave here in Thailand.
It is such behavior that causes the police and immigration and other officialdom to make more stringent and difficult rules for farangs to get visa's and renewals etc.

Why are the glass bottles a problem? They'll get recycled.
That's true, but so would 2L plastic bottles, which happen to fit better space-wise in my frig and aren't so heavy to carry, if I'm the one doing the carrying.
But those issues aside, for me, it's kind of like going to the market and wanting to buy a pound of ground beef. And instead of giving you 1 package of a pound of ground beef, just as a hypothetical comparison, the butcher hands you 4 small packages of 1/4 pound each... Why???
I'm going to use the product in larger portions/quantities. I can easily buy regular water in 1.5L plastic bottles or even larger, no one's forcing me to buy 325ml glass bottles there. And more broadly, I can buy laundry detergent and fabric softener in large/bulk bottles. I can buy cooking oil, mustard, mayo, flour, and just about anything else in large bulk portions. But when it comes to Thai soda water, it's 325ml glass bottles or bust...
Why? Apparently, because as stated above, the average Thai doesn't think of soda water as a drinking water alternative, but rather, only something to mix with their whiskey, where small individual portions of the soda water make common sense.

My GF came back from work yesterday at her bank and stated that a bomb threat was the talk of the town along with much policingHas this been reported in the Thai press? We can't seem to find it anywhere.
It is genuine. My GF works for a hotel in Hua Hin. I won't repeat the details but plain clothes officers (verified with the police station) came around twice, issuing quite specific instructions and seeking info about individuals from 4 named countries staying for a very specific duration. The first warning was on the 13th, and then again on the 14th. Army presence on the streets - but very low key and muted.
I didn't think any banks were open yesterday.

I reside in greater Bangkok and would like to know if there are any Indian restaurants in central Bangkok where you can obtain takeaway Indian meals?
If so, and I'm pretty sure there are, could you please name those restaurants regardless of where they are situated in Bangkok.
I'm not interested in on-line ordering namely companies like Passion and Panda.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Any Indian restaurant will provide take away service.

Will a meter taxi go to Hua Hin from the airport without pre booking? How much?

Sorry OP, I am usually enjoying my meal or a colleagues conversation to care or observe a strangers tipping habits.
Sorry you don't have any Thai friends.

When I turn off Wifi on the phone, there is a small icon along the top that looks like a capital H, with two small opposing arrows underneath it.
When I open up this bar the icon for 'Mobile Data' is on.
So presumably that is that.
But what is it and what is it connecting to that allows me to use the internet for f without any package or subscription.
You don't need a package or subscription it will eat away at your credit or charge your post paid account.

Your data connection is on. Turn it off in the settings or get a data package from DTAC else all your credit will be eaten up soon if on prepaid.

Any updates?anyone else get 90 days without a visa?
-
I was on a stakeout this morning in the bakery section of a major supermarket. In 10 minutes I saw three farangs touch bread and not buy it.
Maybe time to go back to only eating rice.

A reliable source would be helpful!
I assume this would just be the Thai bank ATM charge, which I think was 200 Baht, but home country bank charges would still apply. I paid something in the region of £5.20 in total charges last time I used my bank card at a Thai ATM, of which the Thai bank charge was the highest proportion.
Thai banks charge 20 baht for ATM transactions when outside the province of where the account was opened. I think they are referring to this fee.
2 days overstay, now what?
