Thanks for the tip. Actually the place I am interested to grow flowers is on the Bolovens Plateau in the south of Laos not far from Ubon Ratchathani. Land is 1,300 meters high. Good roads all the way to Bangkok and also flights from Pakse to Bangkok. Regarding the carnations - I assume you know about this because someone is already doing this - if so, can you recommend a place I could go to in the north to see how they are doing it? Also, do you know if there is a supplier of good quality planting materials (e.g. rooted cuttings) for carnations in Thailand or would I have to import them? (I have contacts of foreign suppliers but it would be a lot less hassle if I could get plants locally).

Study the use of Sunn hemp. This will keep your weeds down, add nitrogen and needs little maintenance if any. A good crop

I am looking leasing my Gay owned Guesthouse to someone in the community. It can be run as a guest house or for a nice private place to stay for a group of like minded friends to stay. It is walled and private with around 8+ rooms, around 15 kms South of Pattaya. Recently refurbished and fully furnished. I want to travel long term. Basically, I am looking for someone to maintain it so it does not deteriorate, cover the costs, etc. I have lived there for 10 years and enjoyed it so would like the opportunity for someone else to now. I know it is not a good time to sell so I am open to suggestions or even swap for land in the same area. Thanks

I will keep you posted but it will be infrequent. Cant seem to find anyone who has done this out of thailand. It is the style of life I am more interested in and doing something I know little about. I consider myself fortunate in Thailand with the people I know and have never been ripped off. I have run 2 successful companies, a guesthouse and met decent people in my time. I am retiring at 46 and need that big change to wake my world up again. For gotlost, go get!!

Is this a legal crop. If it is, where can I get some seeds. Very good for mulch or fodder. Does anyone know of an alternative which is good for mulch and fodder?
