  1. Hi,

I never ride without a helmet. In Bangkok I wear heavy jeans and an aromred jacket and riding boots. For touring I add armored pants. The boots have spared me ankle injury when I was rear ended and droped by BMW K100 on my ankle. Twice. Yes, the jacket makes for hot riding but road rash or broken bones are the alternative.

    Gloves always.

I often see people wearing shorts and shirts riding in Bangkok. Road rash is painful and that is the least of your worrys.

    Be safe and enjoy yourself.

  2. My wife, American, is employed by a large Thai company. Today she was advised that immigrations requires a Blue residence (Condo ownership) book with her name in it. We never got this document because it was not needed for her Business Visa and Work Permit or my Retirement extensions.

Can anyone advise how we can get this document? We are have owned our condo and have the original title transfer document.

    Thanks!

  3. Not to start a flame war here but please check your facts before asserting that TOR is compromised. The number of nodes, hops, encryption enroute with no previous IP number forwarded makes your concerns a bit over blown. The weak spot is from the sender's machine to the wire. The origin IP is in the clear unless you also use DNSCrypt. The NSA has stated that if they have a targeted origin IP they can follow you. In other words you already have to be known target. There are exit nodes operated by various intelligence agencies which also represents a high entropy (low) risk of exposure.

  4. Only one. The TOR browser which is an easy to use package which combines the proxy network, encryption, and a proprietary version of Firefox.

Go to https://www.torproject.org/ and download the package for your operating system. There are version for Windows, OS X, and Linux.

The NSA has admited they can only track individuals that they have identified through other means first. Ironic - the project is open source partly funded by the US State Department.

  5. I just had one completed for 60,000. Bangkok Hospital charges 80,000 but the standard of care is far better.

Having an implant helps retain jaw and facial structure and is a good idea from that aspect. I consider myself fortunate to be able to get one.

    Good luck!

  6. My apologies, my previous post was not clear.

    Hi,

Our condo suffered flooding damage from a broken pipe. We hired a contractor to repair the affected (guest) room which included repairing the teak floor and closets. He fell ill 3 months ago and has not been able to resume work. Please post any contact for a skilled contractor you may know.

    Many thanks!

  7. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just took delivery of a new Triumph. My sales manager at Britt Bike wrote this to me:

    "

I am also need a Residential document from Immigration for registration.
    "
Haing registred a used car and two used bikes previously this has never come up.
I have no idea of what sort of document he is refering to. Can anyone advise me?
    Best regards, Lou
  8. Hi, I admire your tenacity. Back surgery and vision problems are impediments to enying travel safely. I am 68, other than IBS and more frequent need to pee, I am lucky and enjoy good health. For me, planning ahead, and thinking about my needs before I go is my concession to reality. Yes memory loss, and night vision, are concerns too. I still travel by motorcycle, car, and air in thailand. Making sure to have the meds that I need to treat symptoms and being alert to warning signs form my body and packing light I manage to enjoy my travel alone. More frequent stops, [packing light, traveling shorter distances each day all help. I hope this all wan't too trite. Light lugage would be a must with back issues. I just bought a new Delsy bag made of hte lightest ever material and smooth wheels. That is the sort of amenity to look for I guess.

Be well and enjoy your travels. I agree that Thailand is gentle country with much to appreciate.

  9. The When you connect to the internet you are assigned an identifying string of numbers in this format: 000:000::000:00. The first three numbers are assigned to the country your are in. With mobile phones and tablets there are gps based services that id pretty close to your physical position. These functions can be disabled on Android phones, not too sure about IOS (Iphone) but guess it can too. If you care about privacy your can hide your IP address using the TOR network (google it for the web page - all will be explained.) It is also possible to turn off location services on your mobile if you do not need them.

    Hope that helps,

    Lou

  10. If the theft was reported to the police he needs to get a Police report (original) from his local police station. If he has not made an theft report it might be better to tell the police clerk it was lost when he was shopping. Then he can go to the nearest Land Transport Office and request a replacement.

  11. Hey guys, From the airline guy again: This is what the industry refers to as an "air return". It is a daily event somewherea nd it can happen for a number of non emergency reasons. If the gear indicators did not show the gear, retracted, or the doors not closed that would be a possible reason. The 737-400 might be a good candidate for retirement for efficency reasons, but not safety. Please relax and reduce the hyperbole. If you do not understand an incident like this ask.

    Cheers,

    Lou

  12. You didn't include which release of OSX you are using, but there is a security update for Safari for Mavericks, 10.8.6. You can check for these issues on the apple support pages or OSX Daily.com.There are virus attacks against OS X out there, just fewer.

I use Forefox 27.0.1 and have not had any anomilies recently.

Hope you get the problem resolved!

  14. My wife and visited Yangon then travled by the day train to Mandaly from there to Bagan and back through Yangon via Air Bagan 3 weeks ago.

The train was not worth it. Very uncomfortable 15 hours! The booking office is in a dark shed not near the station. Opposite the Trader Hotel then across the street. US Dollars in perfect condition only. Very helpful staff though. The circle train ticket may be purchased on the train platform.

The currency exchange scammers around Yangoon station are bad news but not too bright. Avoid engaging in conversations in tourist areas. My wallet was lifted in Scott market in Yangon, but that can happen anywhere.

Mandaly seems angry. Not too much to see. I would not return. Strongly recommend staying in old Bagan. We did and were able to walk to anything we wanted to see. The horse cart guys are pests.

Buying domestic airline tickets required a vist to a travel agency. We bought ours in Mandalay. No choice in carriers - I am sure the agent is paid to sell the airline of the day. The safety of all the domestic airlines is not great. Airport navigation aids and approach discipline seem to be recurrent issues. (I am a retired airline employee)

Of course you should go. Check locally about security for your destinations. Be alert, use your hotel's safe, and carry only the cash you need. Normal travel precautions for an unstable country. Marquiss22 is correct. Life is risk, enjoy your trip!

  15. Japan does not require a visa for Thai citizens. For reliable snow I suggest Nieseko on Hokkaido. The most english speaking area is Hirafu. Cost is a factor. I ski there annually and we booka small studio condo which is still costly. The snow is best in February.

  16. Hello,

I am a 67 year old American. My wife is a 65 year old American.

My wife has been employed by a major Thai health care institution, and has had Business visa and work permit for the past 7 years, handlked by the HR department.

I entered the Kingdom March 2004 with a non-0 visa and extended for purpose of reitrement. My 8th extension was approved in January 2013.

My expects to retire in a year or 2. When she does will it be possible for me to add her as dependent to my current visa extension?

    Many thanks!

    Lou
