If you know the person well, you should try to talk them out of it by explaining they will regret the tattoos when they are older, or even in just a few short years. For example, my wife's two sisters had some tattoos that they regretted not long after. They actually get depressed over them and feel like cutting them off.

The lady in the photos you posted obviously had no friends, because she'll probably want to kill herself sometime in the future when her skin will look like a huge blue stain. If she found herself single, she'd have serious limitations on potential partners.

Load of bullocks  "the lady in the pic having no friends".

I suppose you can predict lottery numbers as well ????????????????

You do realise forums aren't just places to be a smart ****, sometimes they can be used, horror of horrors, to discuss issues and shockingly to express surprise.

    Who'd have thought it, eh...

What's the four  **** suppose to mean ???

"Forums can be used to discuss issues and to express surprise".
So do tell, what were you actually trying to do, when you made that duhh comment:-

"Didn't realise concrete made good roads.

Then again I know nothing about building roads..."

Was that actually to discuss an issue or express surprise ???

I don't think it would  be probable or likely for it too have been the Aussies fault, but it is quite possible.

As is posted, these particular guys have 10 years operating previously without an accident.

Not saying it was or was not, but wait and see what comes up, instead of constantly Thai bashing and conspiracy theories that abound .

There should be no way known that a person can open the locking device of such safety equipment without using two separate movements that must be carried out in sequence, and in some cases three movements.

Once the load is applied to the harness, as would be when being launched upwards by a parasail,  then it is almost impossible to "unlock" the harness restraints, even if you wanted to.

That is the way they are purposely designed,  is to protect the person from falling free from the harness once the harness has come under load. eg: person body weight + being dragged/towed through the air at speed.

In saying that, I would hazard a guess that the said safety gear was most likely a pile of <deleted>.

I would very much like to know if the deceased actually had the harness on when pulled from the water, and in what condition it was in,  furthermore, I do not believe it would take much, after an inspection of the safety equipment to ascertain the fault of equipment causing death.

Watch the video again, and you will see that when the parasail is being towed just above and out over the water, a Thai guy in a long grey sleeved top, runs towards the water with his arms raised, yelling something out, as if he saw something was wrong and was trying to get their attention.

Maybe the gents, here on this forum with a Thai wife or girlfriend can be shown the video, to find out what the Thai guy was yelling about ???.

I'm not sure what to make out of this statements....

Such a vague statement, it really could mean anything by saying ' to insure

people with a long term visa are safe in this country, followed by ' we

will deeply investigate all those who wish to have long term visa '

so what were they doing so far? not investigation those who wanted

    long terms visa?....

    ...

    2

"Part of that will be ensuring that those on long-term visas are safe to have in the country."

"Safe to have in this country" - is a much different meaning than -  " Safe in this country"

Just found this forum and regards also a Hatari fan.

I recently bought a large Hatari pedestal fan and thought all was good.

Well it is good but maybe too good.

Slowest speed is very fast and 3rd is near supersonic.

Is there any simple way to slow the whole thing down at all?

For me, i would be happy if slowspeed was in fact 3rd speed ,its that fast [and noisy ]

    Any suggestions/advice greatly appreciated.

EDIT..this is the large 18" remote control model if that makes any difference.

I also have a smaller Hatari and that is nowhere near as fast.

It might be an idea to take your Fan and receipt back to the shop if at all possible and show them what your concern is by comparing it against another Fan of the same model, rather than trying to diagnose the problem of a newly bought one.

There is a current thread about a guy with a 9 year overstay. I'm not saying that it is him, but there could be any number of reasons why the farang b/f wants to stay clear of police and anyone else that could lead to other problems.

    Yes, that's quite true too,
But if thats the case, then he certainly does not deserve to around a woman if he cannot look after her, then does he ??

What does it have to do with the BF ?

He wasnt involved and it may well have been just his temporary GF

It would be either a Police of defendants choice as whether to press charges .

Nothing at all to do with the BF

It has everything to do with the boyfriend!!,
Are you telling me that if another fella attacked yr girlfriend like that, in any way or form, you would let it slide ???

    Seriously ???.
If it was his "Temporary girlfriend", then it's not his girlfriend then, is it !?.

I certainly would not want you to be hanging about any woman with those morals or lack of !!

  8. I do not think that is too far past the realms of Physics, for a super highly charged electrical current, to use a wireless/frequency to find earth.

After all, wireless frequencies are a form of energy transmission, and therefore must be considered an electrical conductor.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_power_transfer

I believe that when there is such a highly charged current looking to earth, it will use whatever means necessary to get there, to whether it be a “good earth” or a “poor one”.

I am not saying that using a mobile phone in an electrical storm is unsafe or otherwise, but I for one, certainly do not wish to test the boundaries of the Physics of Nature.

In relation to this topic, a good mate of mine from Perth WA, who was a secondary teacher, travelled from Perth to Isaan, a few years back, with a group of students, and a teaching assistant, on a cross-cultural exchange exercise.

When out with the group one day, a Thunderstorm hit the area, so they all madly scrambled for cover from the pelting rain under a large tree.

There was a lightning strike that hit the ground not far from the sheltered group that travelled through the ground instantly killing my mate, and two Thai students, also badly injuring the teaching assistant, whom later died from injuries sustained.

Everyone else in the group survived unscathed.

Yes, the surrounding area was wet from the rain, as were the huddled group under the tree.

No, the lightning did not strike the tree, but it did strike the wet ground nearby.

Why were three people out of a group killed instantly, and one badly injured, later to pass away, and the rest left unharmed ??.

Maybe there was a root of the tree not far from the ground surface that acted as a conducting rod, attracting the lighting as an earthing point, and these people were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I do not know anything more than the devastating facts that we were left with, but I do know one thing, that I will never consciously give the Physics of Nature a chance to harm me or others through mischance/ignorance or naivety.

  9. When a popping sound and a smell of ozone come from an electrical motor, it is a general indication, the motor has a dead short in it, meaning the internal insulation has failed and the power/electricity is running straight to earth.

This explains the motor coming to a complete stop. (however, the motor can still, be turned freely by hand).

One cause of a dead short comes from the insulation lacquer that coats the windings (copper wire) breaking down, allowing the electricity coursing through the windings, to run straight to earth, creating a popping sound when it arcs out.

The smell of "ozone" is the odour of burnt insulation lacquer.

In short, the motor is shot.

As mentioned in an earlier comment by Xylophone, the lower end market type fans run very cheap bushings, rather than bearings and many do not have thermal fuses

I have a Hatari fan that stopped working. I'm sure it's a relatively simple fix but I'm currently stuck.

    1. There is no obvious evidence of the windings burning out.

    2. The thermal fuse has not blown.

    3. The fan turns freely when turned by hand so I don't think it needs oiled but maybe it does.

    4. The fan would turn VERY slowly if started by hand.

Based on these factors I changed the capacitor (1.8 microfarad 400 V) but the fan still has a problem. It still won't work properly. If you give the fan a hand start then it will run, a lot faster than before I changed the cap, but it's not fixed.

Any ideas. I want to fix this because I want to learn about how motors work better. It's been a long time since I studied the theory at Uni and I want to get some practice in.....

If I have to buy a new one eventually then so be it but fixing myself is better just so I know I did it.

There is a slight resistance to turning the rotor by hand but it's by no means stiff so I'm guessing that's normal? Changing the capacitor made a big improvement but it's still not right.

It's not fixed yet. Changing the capacitor has improved it but it's still not turning 100% freely. I'm going to try some oil or grease on the bearings next but I didn't have the time today. If that doesn't work then I'm going to give up.

Won't start on any speed without a flick with the hand. After that the speed changes in line with the low, medium and high speeds.

A little slow to start but it will be useful as a spare.

And for those of you that made such a big deal of it - yes we will be buying a nice, shiny, new one when we do the shop at the weekend.

How have you diagnosed this from the information given?

A shorted turn would lead to excessive heat in the windings and the thermal fuse opening, it hasn't.

By far the most common issues with these fans are dried up bearings and failed capacitors. Fried motors are common enough that there a people re-winding them, but I would put that 3rd in the list.

When an electrical motor, such as a fan, has a slow start or has a difficult time getting up to speed when first turned on, it can generally be diagnosed as the capacitor, dry bushes/bearings, or a partial short.

Of course, check the easiest things first such as dry bushes/bearings, the opening of the thermal fuse, and while you are at it, run a multi-meter across the windings to see if there is any resistance.
    There should be no resistance.

A full short would lead to the protective coating on the windings smelling burnt and lead to the thermal fuse being forced open, but from what the Op has said there is no evidence of that,

With a partial short, it will in some cases make the motor run a few degrees hotter, but does not make the motor run excessively hot, therefore not affecting the thermal fuse.

A partial short will allow enough electricity to pass through the system/windings to operate the electrical motor, but not enough to allow the motor to run at full capacity.

The loss of electricity from the partial short creates a drag on the operation of the electrical system, and in turn the electrical motor.

  11. Why is everyone still going on about bearing and bushes that need lubing ???
The problem is that the electrical motor is partially shorting out which explains why the fan is turning slowly, and the only two ways of fixing it is
:1 Replace the electrical motor - may as well buy a new Fan !!
:2 Have the electrical motor rewound - Buy a new Fan !!
