Anybody interested in Star Wars Battlefront? A massive third person shooter coming out in September for the PC, Xbox and the PS2. I'll probably pick this up for the Xbox to tide me over till Halo 2 rolls out in November.

There are some people on this forum who can wait to take a shot at americans because of their goverment policys. I think they use this forum and poll for this.
No doubt, those poor bastards...getting punished for the Bush clan and their oil cronies.
You don't see the Brits taking any heat for the likes of Mr. Blair and how he bends over for Bush Jr. and company.
Or Thai people for Toxin for that matter.

I worked with a colleague who was Swedish and with a BA in English and his pronunciation and abilities as an English teacher excelled many ‘native English teachers’ that I have met.
It all depends on your fluency and your skills as a teacher.
That is true, I had a Swedish neighbor who spoke English flawlessly.

If you have a proper degree and speak and sound well, you should have no problem obtaining work here. However, most non-native English teachers I have encountered often taught bad habits to their students. I wouldn't have my child learn English from a non-native speaker.
speak and sound well?? were you taught by a non native speaker or a native English teacher?
Many teachers here have teaching degrees in English from their home countries, especially the Filipino teachers. They also study courses such as CELTA, TEFL etc, and are very good at what they do.
Your attitude smacks of Thai ignorance, schools like Sarasas are prime examples, where they parade Native english speakers (note I dont say teachers) out the front to welcome the students in the mornings, so the parents can see the white teachers and gain face. Certainly some are good teachers, some are qualified, but more often than not they are working in the only job they can get just so they can stay here..
Speaking from first hand experience, I have met a few teachers of French, Swiss and German origin who all had the proper credentials and copious amounts of teaching experience but still taught their students improper pronunciation, grammatical errors and dodgy accents.
My attitude smacks of Thai ignorance? Most Thai, Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese parents are paying good money to receive proper English training. They want their child to speak like a North American or like someone from the UK. They don't want their kid to sound like Ooter from the Simpsons. "I like da chocolate, ya." They want their children to learn English from a native speaker whose language has been developed from within an English speaking culture.
As for Sarasas schools using falangs as marketing technique, well all Thai schools in one way or another display their teachers as a form of marketing and advertising. That's the nature of this business. Image sells. In Asia, education is a business first and foremost. Thus, Asian schools are providing their customers with what they want: native English speakers.

A 10 year solution for a thousand year conflict. Sounds about right.
Perhaps, Toxin may reinstate the megaphone policy of years past, spreading Central propoganda through Muslim Village loudspeakers (still an effective form of advertising these days).
Thai governments have continually denied these provinces the recogintion they deserve. When your culture, language, and personal freedoms are at risk, resentment and violence will surely follow.
An independent mediator is needed for this situation. But I doubt both sides will be organized and willing enough to seek out a lasting solution.

Hell_, who needs a dvd player when you got a VCR? Heck, who needs a VCR, when you got a BETA machine? Who needs a car when you got a horse? etc. etc.
Gaming is one of many factors propelling innovation in computers and the modern world. Videogames have helped to create the technology for real world models useful to all facets of life.
Also, surgeons use videogames to to strengthen their hand eye coordination and reflexes.
Gaming is a good solution to the boredom created by Phuket's current monsoon type weather. I prefer it to the delightfully red UBC screen.
BTW, NFSU is a generic racer with little entertainment value IMO.

Anybody know when Doom III will be released officially over here?
I want to buy the original of this game! I've already upgraded my PC so I can play it.
Ian
Maybe it's time to grow up and do something useful with your computer

What's it to you? Gaming is a hobby common to many, especially adults between the ages of 25-35, who comprise the largest group of gamers.
Why do you watch movies? Escapism can be found in many forms. Modern games these days are mind blowing, especially on the right systems. Loosen up.

bothers me when some of the these falong go around thinking they can speak thai.
Some of the garbage that come sout of their mouths is enough to make me sick.
Especially when they dont even bother to check if the thai can speak english.
How else are we going to learn? I rather make an effort, and look foolish then speak no Thai at all. As long as falangs are speaking polietely, I see no harm in trying it.

Bring back THE CANE in schools. That'd do the trick!
Abuse is always the answer.
or
How about incorporating useful information about drugs and violence within their health education curriculum.
I notice that there is a lack of organized sports outside of school in Thailand. Some of these kids would benefit from after school team sports. Football for example. Lets give them some alternatives.

As an example of how bad it can go, our last customer never managed to adapt, kept doing everyting the "Canadian" way, insulting local people and eventually had to leave. The Thais have (genious) ways of getting back at you. You won't even know it's coming.
Asic Gel,
Are you a pimp? We don't like International pimps. What service do you offer?

The Canadian way is the only way go eh! Stupid hosers. Lets play some hockey. Did you see that moose?
Did this CDN customer of yours sport a sweet mullet? Mullet wearing Canadians are not usually the most adaptable folk, inclined towards wearing stained wife beater shirts and a knack for coming off as slightly ignorant. Mullets are the shit. Wish I had one.
Original poster,
Perhaps your Thai teacher/lady friend was thinking about the word rowdy. Or perhaps she liked watching you erupt over a petty argument.

But the saddest part about reading this post (urban myth or not, but closer to reality), is the fact that that it is even talked about that a teacher can <deleted> their students in the kingdom for grades. Even worse I would say that some of the so called teachers/scumbags are not really interested in teaching but here to support their nightery habbits.
This is a twisted post. It went from teachers receiving freebies from BGs to teachers preying on their students. Us teachers sure get a bad deal around here with such accusations. Sure, there are some degenerates in Thailand who see the teacher role as open season but those can be found in any country (and I hope you were refering to teachers of adults 21+).
Most of the teachers I have encountered here in the years I've been here are legitimate folk with good intentions. Every profession likely has a few deviants lurking around, so goes the nature of humans.

<font color='#000000'>Poll:Windows XP "original" still only 100 Baht in Bangkok
Do you pay more?
Do you have pirate software in your computer?

Everybody here have original XP, or??</font>
George, just wondering: Why did you shut down the Thai marijuana policy thread while posting a topic such as this? Piracy is against Thai law as is marijuana. And, the marijuana thread wasn't about getting a fix in Thailand, but on the behavior and policies of the police towards the use of it. A thread such as this would be useful to newbies to the LoS.
