  1. I bought a condo but was not given a blue book, even one with no-name. Do I get it fromt eh land office or the Amphur?
  2. Similarly, even after refusing to process my request as I did not have a long term visa the girl still asked me for my marriage certificate which is irrelevant to the yellow book.
  3. From what I understand the blue book (for Thais) is a certificate of residency, it is not related to ownership. If someone sells a condo that is rented and the same tenant remains in situ there is no cause to have a new blue book. If someone living in a condo sells it, moves out and the new owner moves in he now becomes the chao bahn and so is entered into the blue book. But what happens to the physical blue book? Does the former owner hand it over to the new owner, is a new one issued and the old one cancelled, is a new one issued only when the old is cancelled? Does the chao bahn have particular resonsibilities or privilidges? If a farang buys a new condo the blue book will have no name and say the amphur does not wish to issue a yellow book, there is no chao bahn for the condo, does this matter?
  4. Criteria such as number of infections, proportion of severe cases or deaths to determine if a disease is endemic are sensible but the proportion of the population that is vaccinated is not a characteristic of the disease. Is the common cold classified as endemic if 80% of the population carry handkerchiefs?
  5. Sorry but have been out. I have a chanote and a bill of sale showing I own the condo. I have a MoFA notorised copy of my passport. If they need a specific document I am willing to obtain it. No blue book has been issued - as no-one is yet living in the place. Do I first need to ask for a blue book with no name? Does the blue book of the former owner get transferred with his name deleted or is a new blue book issued? Is there a regulation passed and approved by a higher authority than the amphur about yellow books or is it a matter of negotiating with whatever the local authority decides it wants?
  6. This morning I went to the Nonthaburi municipal offices to obtain a yellow house book (tabien bahn) for a condo I have bought. I had all the documents if had been told were needed plus a few. The woman at the desk looked at my passport and said she could not issue the house book as I was on a tourist visa (actually I am on a 60 day extension of a visa exempt stamp based on marriage) and needed to get a married to Thai or retirement visa (I di dnot point out these are extensions of stay rather than visas). Does anyone know if this is correct? Does the law say anything about the type of visa needed to obtain a yellow house book or is it at the discretion of the municipality? In case the law says I shoul dbe able to obtain it, how can I complain and to whom? Many thanks
  7. Had a suit made by Rajawongse. I am slim with narrow sholders and one slightly higher than the other (from being hit int he back by a cricket ball as a boy). The trousers are fine but despite numerous fittings he was unable to produce a jacket that fell cleanly when butonned and unbuttoned. No doubt he will do a good job if you have a moe classical build.
  8. of course the solution (to all problems no doubt) is legislation. Governments know best and should force people to do what it thinks. Better to provide incentives and let each person decide what is best for him. How much breakage has been avoided by th euse of bubble wrap? Think of all those items that are now not wasted. We flew Emirates BKK-Nice. Emirates left our suitcases out in a storm and on arrival they were full of water (no apologies of course). My wife's clothes were all wrapped in plastic and quite dry. Wonderful thing plastic. If only it were also edible we would not need much else. That is the solution - find a way of making plastic edible.
  9. Nothing to do with this lot or that lot. Thai social and political structures are essentially clientelist, so the giving of money in exchange for votes, jobs, favours, is normal. The other lot simply wish to have access to the pot of gold to be able to favour their cronies and make more themselves. The only ones who could potentially change the system are field ranking officers leading a real coup, not a reshuffling of seats and bank accounts. But perhaps they are all too kriengjai not be kriengjai
  10. Not sure about the world but in the UK some 700,000 people die every year. About 178,000 have died of covid according to official statistics. However, when asked specific questions this turns out to be people who have died with covid not from covid. Over teh tow years only 17,371 have died purely from covid. Not only that but the average age of people dying from/with covid is over 82 while the life expectancy in th eUK is around 81.5. Someone without a good grasp of statistics might say that covid allows people to live longer than the average! Also in British hospitals over 40% of patients with covid are being treated for conditions totally unrelated to covid and in London it is close to 60%. All in all the way the numbers have been communicated are purposefully to scare people into believing this virus will undermine civilisation and the uncivilised countries around the world and lead to as many or more deaths than Spanish flu.
  11. Sorry but your answer raises a question. If I buy a condo in Nonthaburi and so have a yellow house book but have been staying in rented accommmodation in BKK, do I apply for a Non-O (to then apply for a retirement extension) at Nonthaburi or CW and am I likely to be asked for rental receipts?
  12. Is it the revenge of the poachers? What a brilliant promotion campaign for TAT - we can't afford to pay our Forest Rangers $1 a day, come and help. Bound to attract rich tourists. The government could try a similar approach to Oxfam - "adopt a ranger" (You can't buy land but you can buy a man to protect the land.)
  13. Good point, suggest tot eh government it jacks it up x10 or x100 if they are serious about maily wanting the rich.
  14. long term ... after 2 years? We saw how accurate extrapolation/modelling has been so far with covid. One may suffer long term effects from covid and one may be run over by a bus, by all means be careful crossing the road. The questions to answer is not whether someone somewhere will still suffer from having been infected with covid but how will they suffer, how meaningfiul is that, what is the probability of such suffering based on whih charcteristics.
  15. Many have aims but few use violence to seek to impose them. Presumably it is because of your views and the means you support using that you are employed by Fatoni.
  16. Malaysia only came into existence in 1957. The Federation of Malaya was formed in 1948 bringing together in a federation all the Malay KIngdoms on the peninsula. Pattani has been part of Thailand since the 18th century. The former Sultanate of Pattani, which included the southern Thai provinces of Pattani (Patani), Yala (Jala), Narathiwat (Menara)—also known as the three Southern Border Provinces (SBP)[61]—as well as neighbouring parts of Songkhla Province (Singgora), and the northeastern part of Malaysia (Kelantan), was conquered by the Kingdom of Siam in 1785 and, except for Kelantan, has been governed by Thailand ever since.
  17. Most responders seem to be well satisfied with their Isaan wife. Is her behaviour intrinsic or because of you? Do her neighbours behave the same towards their Thai husbands or does marrying a farang bring qudos and advantages? How many rich Thai men who marry a village girl go and live in her village, allowing her to show the others how well she has done, not just materially but also finding a man who looks after her, and looking after her family.
  18. The issue was the meaning of alien - that is the same in Thailand as it is in the USA.
  19. there is a difference between someone who rents accomodation and lives off the wages he receives and someone who lives on a farm and makes cash income from selling produce or doint odd jobs. The comparison should be how much disposable income does each have, or would have if they lived in a similar style? I would suggest basic accomodation, food and transport in Bangkok costs at least 250-300 Baht a day, so 400 per day and 3k per month are equivalent.
  20. People who went to the colonies to administer and educate the natives did not worry about being accepted and fitting in. In fact going native was frowned upon. But then also until 100-150 years ago sodiers in the British and Indian armies preferred a proper officer, one bred into the officer class rather than a man who had come from the ranks.
  21. In the USA, foreigners even those with green cards are aliens. It simply means not national. An Alien can be an "American person" but not an American national". In meely mouthed European countries there are refugess and occasionally immigrants. Using the word alien might "offend" someone which means being cancelled as the death penalty has been abolished.
  22. Excellent, I simply meant that a guest is not a local. Each country/house has its own rules. One may be invited in as a guest and leave when one wishes, for example if the rules prove oppressive; it is usually more difficult for locals.
  23. what a silly use of the word racist
