Anyone help with this?

On and off over the weekend I've been trying to install manually this 'old' program to test some software which is then due to migrate. In most cases MSDE is part of a package and installed invisibly. Try as I might I can't get this to work. My guess is I'm missing something blindingly obvious.

Suggestions please.

Regards

PS Target environment XP Pro single user admin privileges.

Software appears to install, including two services but it remains stubbornly unavailable.

PPS What's this auto Sponsor post stuff! OK, turn off Adblock and see its Goggle ads, still a bad idea though....

Install MS sql server 2005 express, it is free and most packages will install under it as if it was MSDE, also you can download SQL server management studio express, which you can use to administrer your server or deskop engine, you can even do sql queries with it.

Thanks for the suggestions. should have come back to give results.

This version of the app required MSDE not 2005, it's part of the upgrade review, so I was forced into this :o

Got it to load finally, and initially used osql to set it up. Odd thing was it took two reboots for the task bar icon to show, but once in place, edited the SA user {via regedit!} to match the application {which had internal passwords} and finally got it running. Downloaded MDSE Manager 5 from Vale software which streamlined the user and system configurations.
