I found it interesting at the beginning, but then got rather bored, and by the end was pleased that it was over. Maybe this is like life!?!

Anyway, I hit a home run with secular humanism and got 100%. On the other end of the spectrum, I was pitiful as a Jehovah Witness as the clock read a meagre 12%. Theravada Buddhism came in fifth at 72%, and the Mahayana School was 21st at 35%. :o

The small percentages are obviously based on other factors, ie, not a belief in God! In fact I'd say apart from the first 2 or 3 the rest are best ignored!

Is this thread fun, interesting, informative? To me it is none of these but it seems to hold something for some.....can someone explain why they took this quiz and then in addition why they decided to post the results here? I'm not meaning to troll here but honestly I can't see why people are posting this stuff.

i had taken this quiz once before based on participation in, of all things, a financial forum. i recall being surprised that liberal quaker came up high on the quiz as 1st i had no idea what a quaker was and 2nd that if i had any idea--in my ignorance--of what a quaker was, it was some amish-type person riding a horse-drawn buggy in the pennsylvania countryside.

i suspect the quiz might be more interesting to you than you'd care to admit, at least interesting enough to pose the question of what would make this interesting. i took the test a 2nd time simply based on your question. besides your question, i was interested to see if i'd test similarly a 2nd time around (first testing was at least 1/2 year ago and i do not recall my answers then). when i took the quiz this time i kept in mind how easy it would be to skew answers based on what you think your religion of choice would have you believe rather than what you actually believe hadn't you had such teachings. i tried to answer from my gut instead of from my head.

born a lucid dreamer and currently a practitioner & student of dream yoga, i've had lots of experience that many would consider mystic but which i consider to be no more than slight-of-hand. skeptical by nature, i reserve doubt in most all of my subjective experience and hardly ever take most of life all that seriously. so i am a person of few beliefs, minimal knowledge and hopefully just enough understanding to get by. i enjoy studying world religions and native cultures, sifting for wisdom within what i consider to be quite a bit of nonsense otherwise, at least as applied to my life. i try my best not to disrespect--while i will always question--the beliefs of others.

i think it is interesting to see what religions correspond to my own losely held belief system. i'm very surprised to see neo-pagan and new age so close to the top because i frankly do not consider myself a new ager at all. in fact, i'm rather against much of their beliefs which seem to me rather ego-based. i blame new ageism for the death of a close friend of mine who believed so strongly that he determined his own fate that when he found out he was dying he did nothing to stop it.

on the other hand, i'm not at all surprised that jehovah witnesses are on the bottom of my list as i tossed two of them off my property just last weekend.

As I said in the OP I saw this on a different Buddhist forum and thought it looked fun and interesting.

I don't have time to learn about every belief system so I think it is interesting to see which ones are similar to mine

If you want a deeper reason I'm afraid I can't provide it.

Do you actually need a reason?

It seemed pretty harmless when I posted this but I suppose it isn't possible to please everyone.

If it is really bothering you perhaps the moderators can move it somewhere else.

I wasn't sure exactly where to post it but this seemed like the best place at the time

Sorry Paul

I was curious and surprised. I am essentially a non-believer in much of anything really. And pretty cynical when it comes to new agey stuff , just like Thaicurious.

So, imagine my surprise to find neo-pagan up near the top. I was not surprised to find liberal quakers near the top tho. In jr high school my best friend was a member of the Friends Society and I often went to meeting with her and her family. I also went on numerous political demonstrations with her and her parents. They started me on the path I took as an adult. Well, not Thailand, but my beliefs.

I have to say, I was really unsure what Unitarian Universalism is tho. I clicked on the link and it seems to me to be a catchall for anything you want to believe, so that didn't explain much either.

I find it interesting how many of us have Theravada Buddhism up near the top as well, esp myself since I don't consider myself Buddhist in any way.I am a nothing, is how I explained it to my husband :o

Don't be Sorry. I'm not bothered in the least...really. My question was a sincere one. I see people taking this quiz and posting their results and really I don't see the motivation. Most of them don't discuss it nor do they discuss other people's results or comment on the quiz or write anything. It is not a problem...I don't think its a bad thing to do...I don't know what possible value the quiz might have...so.....I'm just wondering why people are doing it. What is their perspective on this...what does it mean. I'm not trying to troll or say anything bad....I just really don't see why people are doing it. No one has to reply to me if they don't want to and certainly there is no reason to defend taking the quiz or posting the results...at least not because of me. I see no harm in it. I'm just wondering what the motivation is..that's all...a sincere question.

That's a relief Chownah. I thought for a second there that there was a new policy at Thai Visa requiring our posts to have meaning. If there was I would be completely screwed and would probably be unable to post again :o

I really don't know what the purpose of this quiz is and if there any benefit in it. Somebody on a different forum suggested that it might demonstrate to some people who see themselves as having views similar to Buddhism, that perhaps there views are similar to something else. More importantly it may also demonstrate to someone who doesn't see themselves as having anything in common with Buddhism that perhaps they have. I was surprised to see that I had beliefs in common with some religions I never even heard of.

If your not interested why bother posting, there's heaps of things I ignore on this forum because I'm not interested in them I certainly don't try to liven up my day trolling the people who do happen to enjoy it.

Sceadugenga,

I guess I have not made myself clear. I am interested...I am interested in what value people find in this quiz and reporting the results here. Garro gave me a reply and I learned a bit...you gave me a reply and all I got was negativity...I'm sorry my post has created such a bad reaction in you. Did you know that there is one kind of a troll that goes around accusing people of being a troll?

One thing that does take some thought is the option of how strongly you believe each statement.

Eg Scientology is dangerously high there!! I suspect those were the questions on human suffering being caused by other people.

They could easily have replaced UU with Agnostic, and why are there no categories for Agnostic and Atheist? oh yeah, I just answered my question! guess nontheist fits.

i was listening to an interview which caught my ear when the speaker noted that he would never label himself as an atheist because he said you wouldn't label someone who doesn't believe in ghosts so why would you need a name for someone who doesn't believe in gods. thus he wouldn't dignify the believers assertion that there is god by preventing them from catagorizing him as someone who does not believe in god. i guess that makes him aghostic.

Is this thread fun, interesting, informative? To me it is none of these but it seems to hold something for some.....can someone explain why they took this quiz and then in addition why they decided to post the results here? I'm not meaning to troll here but honestly I can't see why people are posting this stuff.

Chownah

If your not interested why bother posting, there's heaps of things I ignore on this forum because I'm not interested in them I certainly don't try to liven up my day trolling the people who do happen to enjoy it.

Sceadugenga,

I guess I have not made myself clear. I am interested...I am interested in what value people find in this quiz and reporting the results here. Garro gave me a reply and I learned a bit...you gave me a reply and all I got was negativity...I'm sorry my post has created such a bad reaction in you. Did you know that there is one kind of a troll that goes around accusing people of being a troll?

Chownah

I apologise for my over reaction. The first line of your post appeared to show a complete lack of interest in the topic. If you have a genuine interest feel free to continue with out further danger of flaming by me. :o
