Plain clothes Police arrested one suspect and are pursuing four others in connection with the kidnapping of a wealthy Chinese man in Bangkok. He was held for a 3.5 million baht ransom which he paid to his captors, He was smuggled out in a plastic box, and taken to Hua Hin. The victim's friend saw him with a bruised face on a video call and was told not to inform the police. The victim's ex-girlfriend is suspected of being involved.

 

A 34 year old man  from Myanmar was found dead in his room in the Sathorn area of Bangkok after celebrating Songkran with his friends,  an ATK test showed he was infected with the new Omicron strain of covid 19. Neighbours say the former factory worker was taken sick a few days ago and had refused to obtain medical attention.

 

Climate experts warn that Thailand will experience a hotter and drier climate in the upcoming months due to the El Nino weather pattern and climate change. This summer, extreme heat waves have affected over 80% of the population, with a new high temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius recorded in Tak over the weekend.

Myanmar's military government granted amnesty to just over 3,000  prisoners, including 98 foreigners, for the traditional lunar New Year holiday. It's unclear whether political detainees opposing army rule were among those released. Holiday prisoner releases are common in the country.

Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong, was sentenced to three months in prison yesterday for breaching a court ban on disclosing personal information about a police officer who opened fire at a protest in 2019, this according to a post in  Wong's Facebook.
