Hi,

Where are you planning on moving to?

What kind of work are you interested in?

How many children & what ages are they?

What nationality are you?

A bit more info will help the people on this forum advise you more accuratly.

Regards & best of luck with the move.

Boo

We are coming from England. Our child is under 2 at the moment and will need schooling. There is only one child. I understand school fees are not cheap! I currently work in construction as a manager and my wife in purchasing but we would like to have jobs as English teachers. Would that mean getting extra qualifications? We are thinking of settling in Bangkok.

Does that help a little? All help appreciated.

You are right, later on, school fee will be a major expense, if you are thinking about an International School.

Have a look at http://ajarn.com for teaching position.

You can hope for 35/45K THB per month ...

Looking to stay here for a medium or long term basis ?

Not sure, if you could find a job in the construction industry in Thailand ...

Good luck !

I presume the Thai construction industry would have no real need for a farang. we both hold out hopes with teaching positions rather than the industries we are currently in. We are looking to move over long term most definately. Any ideas what teaching fees would be to place our child in an international school? I presume its a better option than a Thai school?

Jesus singa that was a shock to the system. I should imagine that schools rarely differ in costs. It makes a joint salary of 60,000bht a must now to support that kind of education costs. On the job front is it difficult to pick uo work in Thailand at those sort of salary expectancies?

Thanks for the help. Any more you can offer would appreciated!!

For Nursery and Kindergarden, should be able to find more ... affordable alternative, but long term ... yep, education should be a big pie of your budget, as you can see.

For teacher salaries, better drop a message on the ajarn forum :

More focus on teaching ... I'm not really in the business ...

Hi, If your child is that young, you could consider a thai kindergarden & then you & your wife could home teach. It would save a lot of money & also won't harm your child to be in a thai school, learning the language & customs, a couple I met stayed 1 year in samui & did this with their 3 year old, by the time he left, he was fluent in both Thai & English (for his age) & was regulary called on to help his mum in the shops & with neighbours who didn't speak good english.

Once your in Bangkok & meet more people you could then find out more about education options for when he/she is older.
