When I was young, I suffered cold sores every few weeks. This went on for years. Then I found the cure! Hold an ice cube directly on the sore for 15 to 20 minutes. Use a washcloth to keep your fingers from melting it, but put the ice directly on the sore. Repeat this every three or four hours for a couple of days (until the sore is not "feverish" anymore). You won't ever get a cold sore right there again.

When I feel a cold sore starting, I start using ice, and it prevents it from breaking the skin and really erupting into a full blown cold sore. The initial spot is usually gone in less than one day. If I wait for a day and the sore has developed, the ice makes it go away faster than it would otherwise.

I used this treatment several times over the course of a couple of years, and the cold sores gradually dimished to the point that I would only get one after a really high fever or long exposure to the sun. Now, I haven't had one in over six years, even after I'm sick or in the sun. I'm cured! (knock on wood).

I imagine that cold sores are common in Thailand given the relatively large sex-pat community here.

It is said that cold sores are activated by stress, not to say you get one because of stress, but only after you are infected by the virus, does it appear! So how does one get stressed in Pattaya.######,Im always smiling :D .But if your to go bareback and get one of these on your night stick, well :o ?????

So are you a  'sex pat ' then joe???????

No I am not, I am a respected individual.

Just think about this for a moment whilst brushing your teeth next time. The thought of french kissing a bar girl knowing that she has probably had sex with 100 guys before you and has probably given a 100 blowjobs of which probably 80% of the guys blew their load in her mouth is good enough reason for not even contemplating such an idea.

In addition the prospect of catching some disease from the bg by doing this especially if she has a gum disease, cut etc. should be enough of a warning to leave the kissing well and truly alone.

Cold sores and open cuts.....don't touch.

"Cold sores" or "fever blisters", as the're commonly called, are caused by a viral infection (Herpes Simplex) which is carried in one form or the other, by up to 90% of people in the world. If your mother had the virus when you were born, you most likely are also a carrier. You can be infected without showing any symptoms.

It is believed the virus is kept under control by ones immune system, with occassional "outbreaks" occuring when the immune system is under stress. When inactive, the virus is thought to reside in nerve endings. You can have mild "outbreaks" without showing any signs.

As with all viral infections, there is no cure. The Simplex "outbreak" usually lasts 2-3 weeks. It is possible to spread the virus to ones eye by touching a sore and then touching the eye. This could cause serious complications. You can reduce the chances of spreading the virus, by not touching sore(s) and washing your hands frequently. One should also avoid kissing, and oral sex during "outbreaks" of the virus.

Remember, the medical profession has yet to find a "cure" for this or any viral infection, even the common cold.

Cold sores are also effected by Diet...

For the vast majority of people with herpes, the outbreaks can be

controlled or eliminated by dietary methods.  The balance of two amino

acids, arginine and lysine, in the diet has a dramatic effect on herpes

outbreaks.

Apparently, foods that have an excess of arginine (one of the

twenty or so basic amino acids) can trigger outbreaks; this includes

chocolate, nuts, and seeds.  But if the diet contains enough lysine to

balance the arginine, this will prevent most outbreaks, and speed the

healing of any that do occur.

Foods high in lysine and low in arginine

include most fruits and vegetables, fish, chicken, beef, lamb, milk,

cheese, soybeans, brewer's yeast and mung bean sprouts. Gelatin,

chocolate, carob, coconut, and all nuts including peanuts have more

arginine than lysine and should thus be minimized or avoided.

Lysine can

also be gotten in supplemental form, and seems to work just as well; 1000

mg/day is the usual preventative dose, double that if you are trying to

heal an outbreak that has already started.  If a person does wind up

eating chocolate or nuts, increasing the lysine dose will balance that

out as well.

Searching on "arginine lysine herpes" in Google generates over 13,000

hits, so the information is readily available; yet it is little known by

the general public.  Economics is probably most at play here; since

Trader Joe's and others sell lysine for less than 3 cents a pill, no one

stands to make any money on this!

This treatment applies not only to genital herpes, but to shingles, "cold

sores" and mouth ulcers that come from herpes; sometimes canker sores

seem to respond to this as well.  People often think that they have

bitten their cheek, and that a sore results.  That area of the cheek then

swells, and it gets bitten again.  In many cases, what has really

happened is that the sore comes first, and swells part of the cheek to

where it pushes into the biting area, and gets bitten.  Using lysine in

these situations will usually help reduce the swelling and heal the sore

so that it doesn't get bitten again.

Other solutions are coming to light as well.  One English study

correlated a lack of vitamin B12, folic acid and iron to canker sores.  I

have also heard that there is an experimental vaccine against genital

herpes that, in tests, protected most women from getting that virus,

though it did not protect men.

Guess its time to stop eating Nuts, eh Joe? :o:D
